Review: Bared to You by Sylvia Day

Bared to You (Crossfire, #1)

Our journey began in fire...

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness—beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily...

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other's most private wounds... and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...
My Thoughts
Bared to You begins with Eva and Gideon crashing into each other; literally and from then on they’re drawn like two powerful magnets.   Their attraction was powerful, obsessive and all-consuming!  There was so much sizzle and chemistry; I think they could’ve blown a fuse!!
Eva comes from a rich family, but wants to make a name on her own in the advertising industry so she takes a job as an assistant at Waters Field & Leaman a well-known advertising agency.  This agency is housed in the beautiful Crossfire Building which how she runs into Gideon Cross, as I said above, literally.  Eva describes Gideon: “Inky black hair framed a breathtaking face.  His bone structure would make a sculptor weep with joy, while a firmly etched mouth, a blade of a nose, and intensely blue eyes made him savagely gorgeous.” *faints*  Back to the story,  Eva ends up working on an advertising campaign for Gideon and he quickly propositions her, without even offering to take her on a date, which she promptly refuses.  In spite of their combustible attraction, she finds his offer rude and conceited.  Gideon being the domineering, alpha-male that he is won’t take no for an answer, so you basically know where it goes from there.  He’s obsessed to the point of being stalkerish but she’s the same towards him.  These two are a hot mess, but perfect for each other, and as a reader you just can’t look away from all the drama.
I was just flipping through the pages of this story to write this review and I forgot how freaking HOT this story was!!  This story should’ve come with an Advisory Warning Label like: WARNING: PANTIES MAY CATCH FIRE WHILE READING! Here’s an angsty quote that’ll get your blood pumping:
I’m losing my mind without you.” His lips were gliding down my neck, his tongue stroking over my racing pulse.  He sucked on my skin and pleasure radiated through me. “I can’t think.  I can’t work or sleep.  My body aches for you. I can make you want me again.  Let me try.”-Gideon
Yes, I said angsty, because this story is DRAMA, hot and cold.  Don’t worry though, the cold bits were short lived.  Trust me, they can’t keep away from each other.  This story was more than just about the sex, though. Both Gideon and Eva have a dark past that made them into who they are.   Gradually we find out Eva’s sad truth, but we are never clued into Gideon’s history.  This is the first in a three book series, so I’m sure we’ll find out at some point.
This story was addictive, so while it didn’t leave you off on a cliff when it ended, I was definitely craving more Eva and Gideon.  Plus, there were so many unanswered questions with Gideon.  I picked up the second in the series, Reflected in You, immediately when it released.  You can read my review for that tomorrow on the blog.  Let me tell you, I have plenty to say!
As a side note the original cover (see below) was changed to the one above.  This is what Sylvia Day says about it on her website:

"The blue cover with a naked woman being embraced by a man was one I commissioned for the self-published edition of the story. When Berkley acquired the rights to publish the book, they chose to use a new cover that was less provocative and therefore easier to place with retailers."

  1. I read it before the new cover came out and it was the cover alone that caught my eye. I have to say the first one. It looks just as alluring as these characters can be. Great review Rachel!!

  2. Thanks Arlene. I read it before the new cover as well, and I wondered, why the switch? So I checked it out. :)

  3. This book was a bit too much melodramatic for my taste, but I'm glad you enjoyed reading it.:)
