Sunday Post #167

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

I'm very late in posting and I haven't posted since Tuesday since this has been a busy week. I started my new job on Tuesday and worked Wednesday as well. Ten hour days which is a switch from my eight hour days down South. As with anytime you start a new job it was a bit overwhelming and that along with the fact that I worked long days I had no energy to blog. I still needed to pack for our trip to Montana on Wednesday night after work.

We got up at the crack of dawn to fly out and meet my daughter, SIL, and grandkids (4 and 7 year-old-dynamos!). We had a wonderful time. It was hot and we spent a lot of time by the pool. The days were long as the sunset was 9:30 (see picture below)! We left this morning and got home just a few hours ago.

Sunset in Montana

I sat down at the pool on Friday and decided I just wanted to read whatever I wanted to read.  Forget deadlines and such so I picked up Soul Taken and was immediately sucked in! If it wasn't for the distractions that happen with the kids and pool activities I'd have read straight through and finished in one day! Soooo good! I'm wondering what's ahead now. Loved When It Falls Apart. I had mixed feelings on Her Darkest Secret.

  1. That is a busy week. Other than work, it's the good kind of busy though. Ten hour days are long (are you a 40 in 4 schedule?). I hope your commute is shorter than it was down south. Your sunset picture is stunning!

    1. I don't have a set schedule anymore so I won't be working more than 2 days a week, which is fine by me. My commute is wonderful! Only 15 minutes! Montana skies are vast and beautiful! Perfect recipe for a spectacular sunset. :)

  3. After a busy week, the vacation sounds like just what you needed! I had to fight off a cold this week, so I've been eager to get back out of the house.

    1. Ugh, I hate colds. I seem to get a bug every time I visit with our daughter and grandchildren. I hope you get over yours soon and are able to enjoy the holiday and outdoors, Ethan!

  8. I'm so glad you had a nice holiday weekend with great reads. I hope you'll adjust to the new schedule. Personally I prefer longer days at work if it means less days at work.

    1. Yes, Anne, I agree. Working the longer day is better instead of more days. The schedule will be pretty good here. I'm not locked in and get to pick and choose.

  10. Thanks, Lark! Mercy Thompson is soooo good, right? I get to pick and choose my schedule so it's way better than down south even with the longer days. :)

  11. Whew! Ten hour days for the first days at work would be daunting. Glad you were able to get away for a nice R&R trip in MT. The sunset is gorgeous. I find Patricia Briggs' books irresistible, too.

    Have a great week, Rachel!

  12. Such a busy week, you are lucky your were able to read three books. I loved When it Falls Apart and nice to see you did as well. Reading by the pool is wonderful. I love spending time with my grandkids, but they live close by, I'm not sure how I would do if they were far away. Enjoy this week, and I hope it is not as busy for you, Rachel.

  14. I imagine it's tough to adjust to the longer days. Hopefully you'll settle into a new routine soon. That photo is breathtaking. So gorgeous. It's such a good feeling to pick up a book you want to read with no thought for deadlines or blog tours or reviews. Just sink into a really good story.
