The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.
As reported last weekend we were in Texas visiting our daughter, SIL and grandchildren who were all battling pink eye and/or bronchitis. Didn't know this when we flew out, it was a surprise on arrival! Well, I came down with a mild case, but my husband is a mess. His eyes are awful even with prescribed drops. He took a Covid test yesterday just to make sure it wasn't that, since that's a symptom of one of the variants, and it was negative. Bummer since our son, DIL, and baby grandson are here on a visit. Thank goodness they're staying with my sister but we haven't been able to visit with them except for a dinner where we all sat outside and didn't touch the baby.
In happier news it's gorgeous here. Flowers blooming everywhere. I've been taking a bunch of walks just to enjoy the scenery.

Loved Meet Me at the Lake and The House on Prytania! I listened to three prequel novellas for the Throne of Glass series because my daughter loves the series and has been telling me to read it. I'm thinking the series isn't for me. It's young adult, which I hardly ever read anymore, and has me rolling my eyes quite a bit. We'll see.
Received/Purchased/Library Lend:
Looking forward to all three of these since I've enjoyed these authors in the past.

Didn't realize Lucy Gilmore is a pen name for Tamara Berry, the author of the By the Book mystery series. It's one I've been wanting to dig into and even more so now that I've enjoyed The Lonely Hearts Book Club!
How was your week?
Your poor husband! Pink eye is miserable as it is but it sounds like he has a severe case of it. I hope you're still able to enjoy your son's visit. I tried the Throne of Glass series years ago and it just wasn't for me. I didn't make it past the first book.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a bummer, Tanya! Yes, I don't think ToG is going to be for me either.
DeleteBeing infected by your hosts and then unable to enjoy the next visit sounds absolutely terrible! I hope everyone recovers soon.
ReplyDeletebest, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Yes, it was a bummer. Still, we enjoyed seeing them. Thank you! I hope so too!
DeleteOh no!! I hope everyone is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI just picked up The House on Prytania from the library - then realized I need to read the first one still! Lol. I will be looking for that this week.
Thank you! I hope so, too. Yes, you do need to read the first book before Prytania. Both are really good! Hope you enjoy them, too!
DeleteOh, Rachel, I feel so sad for you! Your visits with family have been waylaid by sickness. I hope your husband feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteThe Lonely Hearts Book Club looks like good fun.
Thank you Deb! Yes, I'm hoping the pink eye clears soon. My poor husband! The Lonely Hearts Book Club was so fun and heartwarming!
DeleteHeck, that's terrible that you can't cuddle the baby. Viruses stink. I will never understand their purpose in the big picture of the universe. So glad you enjoyed Meet Me at the Lake. Fortune is now a solid fave for me (she must write faster). I know they argue that YA has to do with themes and not ages of the characters, but I mean, the fae in ToG are over a 100. I'm just saying...I can't wait to see what you think of Play for Me. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI know! I hate being sick, but I guess no one enjoys it. I can't see their purpose either. Fortune is a talented writer! I think the character and what she does in ToG is annoying. Not sure if it's because of her age or not, but I don't think ToG is for me. Lots of things I find hard to believe.
DeleteI'm so excited for Play For Me! I was happy to see it was such a win for you!
Enjoy spring and the spring flowers in spite of your illness. Hope you're better super quick.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Harvee! I hope so too. At least it's pretty outside, lol! :)
DeleteSending healing your way. Regine
ReplyDeleteThank you, Regine! :)
DeleteOh no - that's so unfortunate that a visit ends up infecting everyone! And not holding the baby.....that's just sad! Everyone wants to hold a baby. :) Hope it all clears up soon. Thanks for sharing the flower pics....it's finally warming here in the PNW and we're starting to see some blooms. Have a terrific week.
ReplyDeleteTerrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
Yes, it's a bummer, but at least we got to spend some time with him. I hope it clears soon, too! Thanks! I'm sure you'll have some beautiful blooms up there! I hope you share some pictures, Terrie! You too! :)
DeleteOh no sorry to hear that about your husband. What a pain! Especially with family visiting. That definitely sucks. :(
ReplyDeleteLove the pics. Especially the third one. Looks beautiful there! I like that cover for Lonely Hearts too.
Hope your weekend is nice in spite of the pink eye.
Thanks Greg! I didn't know someone could get pink eye so bad! I hope he gets well quickly! It's such an inviting cover, right? The story was heartwarming too!
DeleteI love seeing the flowers and hope everyone is much better very soon.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Thank you, Anne! The flowers bring me so much joy!
DeleteOh no-pink eye is the worst!!! So sorry! But the flowers are so pretty! Hopefully next week is better!
ReplyDeleteIt is, Sam! I hope it clears quickly. Thank you!
DeleteWell it seems the virus you feared has made new victims! I am so sorry your husband is feeling so poorly Rachel!
ReplyDeleteThe illnesses are bad enough, but man...having to be strong and not hold the adorable new baby must've been torture!
ReplyDeleteThose flowers and plants are beautiful!
Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear about your visit and hope your husband is feeling better soon. Glad to covid test was negative anyway. The flowers are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful flowers, and what a gorgeous meadow!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your various illnesses; that's no fun, especially on a vacation. And not being able to hold your grandchild must have been especially hard. I hope everyone feels better soon.
Sorry about the pink eye! That's the worst. Wishing both of you a fast recovery...and a good week! :D
ReplyDeleteYeah its humbling to realize that there are other types of sicknesses than covid, its easy to forget that there are other things that can get us sick and not feeling good. Pink eye is awful though. Hope the recovery goes smoothly. I feel ya on reading YA, I rarely read it but YA fantasy is definitely eye rolling induced lol
ReplyDeleteSorry you and your husband are sick. Hope you are both better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh no, sorry to hear everyone is sick like that.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I am so sorry that your husband is feeling so bad. I hope that everyone is feeling better very soon.
ReplyDeleteFlowers :D Lovely
ReplyDeleteOh no pink eye! Poor husband
