Sunday Post #319

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.

Happy Sunday!

I've had the week off from work which is a good thing since my shoulder continues to bother me, but not as bad as the previous week. I've been doing my PT exercises and other workouts, raked a ton of leaves (not great for the shoulder) and trimmed back a bunch of thorny blackberry bushes that are growing out of control.

Today (Saturday) my husband and I went to lunch, Home Depot and the garden center to buy cyclamen and pansies. I planted them and then we made dinner. I've been listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl on and off all day and it's hilarious!

The weather's been unseasonably warm here in the mid to high 60s, but we're about to drop down to normal temps and we have a bunch of rain in the forecast.

We've seen a coyote on our cameras walking through the property twice in the last two weeks during the night, so we've made sure the cats are in right at dusk. The racoons have been showing up (three of them) and unfortunately I forgot to bring in the dish of dry cat food one night so they had a meal which means they'll be showing up for a while to see if they get lucky again.

  1. I am glad your shoulder is improving. The The Red Hot Poker is beautiful! I planted some a year ago, and in the spring we moved. I hope the next homeowner likes them.

    1. Thank you! I looked for the Red Hot Poker at my garden center, but they didn't have them. Maybe they'll restock in the spring.

  2. Dungeon Crawler Carl is hilarious. Donut and Carl's reactions to her especially make me laugh. Hope your shoulder continues to improve.

  3. I'm so glad to hear you had the week off to rest your shoulder some. I'd been procrastinating on the leaves and compost work and we finally got it done. We still have fresh lettuce in the greenhouse bed and herbs. You always have such lovely flowers.

    1. We rake up leaves every week to fill our green trash can. Gradually we'll get it all done. There's a lot! Thank you, Anne!

  4. Hope your shoulder gets better! I need to go back to doing the PT exercises for mine because the pain still bothers me a couple times a week.

    1. It's hard to carve out the time and stay committed to doing the exercises. I'm trying to be better about it. Hope your shoulder feels better, too!

  5. We saw a coyote while being in Death Valley seven years ago. My husband was taking pictures never realizing that just two meters behind him a second coyote had appeared! It wasn't threatening (probably used to tourists and people) but we laughed at my husband's expression when he realized it!

    1. Crazily enough we seemed to have more of a problem with them in Southern California. Maybe because they had less of an area to hunt. I felt bad for them, but I still didn't want them eating my cats! They would be a shock, Sophie! Haha!

  6. Those flowers are pretty! I hope your shoulder feels better soon.

  8. You are unintentionally assembling quite a little farm there, but I am jealous of your weather. It's very cold here. Every time I start crying about the cold, I check my daughter's weather in my app - it's been super cold there (well below zero with the windchill). Joints are terrible and shoulders seem to be the struggle with all the ways they are connected to our neck and tech neck and all that good stuff. I hope you get some relief.

    1. We're about to get a boatload of rain this week, so you don't have to be jealous anymore. However, the weather was beautiful today. Sunny and 64...Yes! I love animals, but raccoons are destructive. I don't like encouraging them to hang out with us, lol! Tech neck! Yes! I need to keep up with my PT! Thank you!

  9. I'm wanting to read Dungeon Crawler Carl, maybe I'll give the audiobook a try. You've got some other good books. Lots of pretty flowers, no flowers here right now! Hope you have a good week!

  10. Oh, so glad you had some time off to help your shoulder heal - although the yard work doesn't help! I love the puzzle. What do you do with your puzzles after you finish them?

    1. Yes, raking leaves didn't feel great. I lend them to my sister and then when she's done I store them in my attic. I've had a lot of these puzzles for years. I get a few of them down and do them again every year or so. I have bought quite a few new ones, too, though. I'm kind of obsessed, lol!

  11. Yay for a week off after the extra work you did. Hopefully, the shoulder will get some rest now that you're caught up on your yardwork. Tough luck with the raccoons getting homey. Glad you had two really good reads/listens. I need to try that Dungeon Crawler Carl series.

    Have a good week, Rachel!

    1. Yes, the rest was good to help quiet the soreness down. Now I feel I can start in with my PT exercises again without aggravating it too much. It's a fun series, but a little on the brutal side!

  12. I'm glad you had a week off to relax your shoulder a little.

Two good books is a good book, I say.

  13. I can't believe how the plants are still growing & blooming there -- must be warm. We've been under snow a while now. So seeing flowers still is like crazy, pretty nice. I sympathize with your injury -- as shoulders can be tough to heal. Keep going with the PT ... which I'm doing as well for the knee. It's not easy to stay on track. And good about keeping the kitties in at dusk. That's safer. Enjoy your week.

    1. That was the last of my roses and I don't have any other flowers still blooming. It's been unseasonably warm for here. We're finally dropping down into the normal range this week and we have a ton of rain coming. Yes, it feels like I'm not getting anywhere with progress on my shoulder, but I know from the past it does eventually work if I keep at it. I all goes well with your knee recovery! You too, Susan!

    1. Isn't it pretty?! I want to buy and plant some in my yard next season. I know! It was really bad a few years back and my range of motion was concerning. I got a lot back through PT. This is a flare up and I need to be careful. Thank you, Sarah!
