Sunday Post #17

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

I'm home in Southern California this weekend, which is nice.  No flight delays to worry about! I've been trying to get in more exercise, strength training and runs. I managed to get out on two runs.  It helps that the days are getting a little longer so I can squeeze in a run after work if I get out quickly.  I'm gearing up to start training again for another half-marathon in May.  Fingers crossed.

Continuing the Monkeewrench series with Snow Blind (book 4).  It was so good!  I don't read much BDSM, but I do pick it up on occasion if the story sounds good.  All's Fair in Love and Mastery was kinky and fun, and not overly sexed up.  Never Tell was fantastic! Flora Dane was introduced into the Detective D.D. Warren series two books ago and she continues to be a fascinating character! I love her even more after Never Tell. I know we'll be seeing her more in the future and I can't wait! I'll have my review up the following week.

Good heavens, that's a lot of books and I didn't share all of them! I guess a went a little crazy with my requests at the library, Edelweiss and Netgalley.  I bought The Score to continue the series, and What the Wind Knows is a First Reads from Amazon.  Isn't that cover beautiful?! Speaking of covers, I think The Unhoneymooners is one of my all-time favorite covers! It's soooo pretty, and it sounds like a lot of fun.  I borrowed Stray Magic after seeing Carole's praise of the second book this last week.  I acquired Charming on KU after seeing a Anna's review. I'm hoping to squeeze it in after the monster book (640 pages!) I'm currently trying to finish.

Watched:

Binged several episodes of New Amsterdam.  It seems like I shed a few tears by the end of each one.  It's really good!

How was your week?

  3. I'm glad you got home for the weekend, Rachel! There's no place like home, right?

Your new books look great - I've already read The Unhoneymooners, and I really enjoyed it! Christina Lauren get better with every single book they write in my opinion.

Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

  7. Yay for keeping close to the home ground and getting in some good exercise toward your half-marathon. Neat that your Monkeywrench series continues to be good and you found a solid BDSM to make you squirm.
I want to try that Medding series, too. Yes, that cover is gorgeous. Enjoy your fun haul!

    Have a good week, Rachel!

  8. I watched the first few episodes of New Amsterdam. I have a tough time keeping up with shows though. However, I'm watching and really loving A Million Little Things.

    1. Thanks, Sam! I hope I love it as much as Josh and Hazel. I didn't care for Roomies so I almost gave up on CL until I saw all the glowing reviews for Josh & Hazel. The Unhoneymooners sounds like a lot of fun so I guess we'll see.

  14. Oooh! Yay for Unhoneymooners! That looks like such a fun book. I'm sure you're glad to be in Southern California where it's not snowing or freezing like crazy either. I don't think it's that cold there, at least...

    1. I do count my blessings when I see the rest of the country battling snow and below zero temps. I'm not so fond of Southern California when our endless summer arrives with weeks of triple digit weather! Last summer I thought I'd go mad, lol!

  15. I enjoyed The Score, it was a good one.

I keep telling myself I need to run. I'd love to do a 5k this summer and work up to a 10k. Good luck with the half marathon training! I don't think I'd ever be able to manage a half marathon. :)

    1. You'd be surprised, Nicci. I thought I'd never be able to run one either, but with the right training and build up you can do anything! I'm no spring chicken either, I just turned 49, so you never know. Good luck with your goal of running a 5k this summer! :)

  16. I'm so excited to read The Unhoneymooners!! Did you run a half already? I'm trying to remember if something happened or if this will be your second one. I have zero desire to run another one. I wonder if I'll ever have the motivation. :)

    1. Me too! I did. Last May, and it was wonderful! The run is set in the Santa Barbara Wine Country, so beautiful! I'm going to run the same one this year. Running one early in May is perfect for me since the training happens when the weather is mostly tolerable. I've trained for one that was to run in October and the training was brutal because of the triple digit weather in the summer! I used to stress out wondering when I could run and not die of heat exhaustion while there was still light out. Either really early or super late. Neither was an option I especially liked. You never know! :)

  17. So impressed that you’re running a half-marathon! And handy that the weather is cooperating for your training. What the Wind Knows was one of my most anticipated on 2019 so I was floored when I saw it available as an Amazon First Reads pick! Talk about kismet! I’m hoping to start it soon. I hope your week is off to a great start, Rachel!

  19. I haven't gotten in a run in ages! I'm not really focused on exercise right now which is fine for now. I think in a couple of months I'll start training slowly again for a 5k. Good luck with your half marathon!
I'm curious about New Amsterdam. I like the actor from Blacklist and you shedding a few tears has me intrigued. I like a good heartfelt story/show.

    1. Good luck when you get back to running! I need to get back to The Blacklist. I didn't like Tom when I was watching it, but I've been told if I stick with it I'll come around to Tom. New Amsterdam is really good!

  20. Good luck with the training! I try to run 5K three times a week, but that’s hard to do in the snow. Enjoy your new books. Have a great week!

  21. I LOVE New Amsterdam! I'm not caught up though... I really should get caught up. Whoops. I also really want to start running, but I can't even walk around the block without feeling like I'm dying. Baby steps I guess? Looks like some great new books though!

    1. Yay! I end up binge watching several and then not watching for weeks. I kind of like watching TV shows like that.

I felt the same way when I started running, Ash, like I was going to die, lol! Starting slow and steady and gradually adding mileage really works, though, and it causes less injury. :)
