Review: Double Full (A Nice Guys Novel #1) by Kindle Alexander

Double Full (A Nice Guys Novel #1) by Kindle Alexander
Published October 8th 2013 by The Kindle Alexander Collection
Up and coming football hero, Colton Michaels, makes a Hail Mary pass one night in the college locker room that results in the hottest, sexiest five days of his young life. However, interference after the play has him hiding his past and burying his future in the bottom of a bottle. While Colt seems to have it all, looks can be deceiving, especially when you’re trapped so far in a closet that you can’t see your way out. When ten years of living his expected fast-lane lifestyle lands him engaged to his manipulative Russian supermodel girlfriend, he decides it’s time to call a new play.

Jace Montgomery single-handily built the largest all-star cheerleading gym in the world, driven by a need to forget a life-altering encounter with a handsome quarterback a decade ago. His reputation as an excellent coach, hard-nosed business man, and savvy entrepreneur earned him respect in the sometimes catty world of competitive cheerleading. When Jace learns of his ex-lover’s plans to marry, his heart executes a barrel roll and his carefully-placed resolve tumbles down without a mat to absorb the shock. Can his island escape help him to finally let go of the past and move his life forward?

My Thoughts
A definite TOUCHDOWN in my playbook. Double Full by Kindle Alexander is sexy, fun and romantic. The perfect trifecta combination for fans of contemporary M/M romance!

Colt Michaels is the university’s star quarterback with a bright future in the NFL. He’s harbored a long time crush on Jace Montgomery for most of his college years, but has kept it a secret until one chance encounter in the locker room. When sparks fly and the chemistry explodes between these two, Colt and Jace can't deny the attraction they feel for one another. So when they make an attempt to begin a relationship, Colt’s father stops at nothing to destroy what has just begun.

After ten years of working hard to build a successful all star cheer gym, Jace has succeeded in his career goals, but there's something missing in his life. He's never been able to recover from Colt's betrayal when he abruptly abandoned him. When Colt decides after a decade of meaningless relationships that he can't live without Jace, he has to fight for a second chance.

First off, there was no denying the chemistry between these two characters. The brief time they spent together at the onset of their relationship felt sincere, so it was truly heartbreaking to see the lengths to which Colt's father would go to keep him and Jace apart. As much as his abandonment hurt Jace, I still admired how much Colt was willing to sacrifice to keep Jace safe from his maniacal father. When it was revealed how he never stopped following Jace's career, I was rooting Colt on when he fought for his second chance.

The time Jace and Colt spent apart seemed to have sadly destroyed each of these characters to a certain degree, so I was hoping they'd get a happy ending through all of the struggle they had to overcome to be together.

With off-the-charts steamy moments, heartfelt dialog and steady yet romantic build-up, Double Full was a solid hit. This was my first exposure to Kindle Alexander, and I can say with definite certainty that I will dive into more of her novels because I enjoyed her storytelling and overall style. Well done!
