Sunday Post #19

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

My training for the half-marathon I signed up for begins again on Monday.  It's eleven weeks of training before the big day in May.  This will be the second time I've run this marathon up in the Central California Wine Country.  It's a beautiful route winding about several wineries.  It worked out really well last year with the training happening before we get our triple digit summer weather.  The weather has been cold, but we didn't have much rain, and the forecast next week looks great with mid to high 60s a little bit of clouds. I should be able to get my runs in with no problems. Yay!

Stray Magic was a solid start to the series.  I had to settle in and sort out characters and magical origins, so it was a little slow going in.  Wish there was a romance, but there is potential so I guess we'll see what happens in the next book. I liked the second installment of the Veronica Speedwell series, but not as much as the first. Stroke of Luck was lots of action and thrills, but the romance fell a little flat.  Still, looking forward to the next book.

Loving Laura Griffin's Tracers series, so I downloaded a copy of the newest.  Continuing the Sterling Montana series with Luck of the Draw.

Watched:

Love Modern Family and watch ever new episode.  I watched two episodes of New Amsterdam and now I'm all caught up with the series. Darn it. Now I have to wait.

How was your week?

  1. Stray Magic looks fun. I've only read one of Kelly's books but it was good!

Good luck with the running! :)

  3. Good luck with the half-marathon! I am always impressed by people who run! This is so taxing for the body! I had to stop because of my knees... Happy Sunday!

  6. Glad the weather is keeping out of the too warm temps for your training and marathon. The route through wineries does sound picturesque. I want to read that Kelly Meding series eventually. I just got accepted for the fourth Veronica Speedwell and can't wait. The BJ Daniels books will eventually be ones I get around to.
I've had my eye on New Amsterdam. Glad you like it.

    Have a great week, Rachel!

    1. It's a beautiful course! I just recently finished book 2 of the Veronica Speedwell series and plan on picking up book 3 & 4 soon. Hope Veronica and Stroker get their romance on track by book 4. She was a bit frustrating to me in the 2nd book.

Hope you enjoy New Amsterdam as much as I do! Hope your week has been great, too! :)

  9. I need to get in shape. I don't think that I could be ready to run 13 miles in just 11 weeks. My daughter has done it a couple of times though. I loved Stray Magic! I do hope you enjoy all of your new reads and have a great week!

    1. You'd be surprised I think, Carole. I never thought I'd be able to run 13 miles, but it gets addictive and the training schedule is a gradual thing so it's not bad even the first time around. This is the fourth time I'm doing the training, but I've been running and exercising even when I'm not training. I'm thinking of doing a full marathon someday. Something I said I'd never do. Hope your week was good too, Carole! :)

  10. Love Griffin and Daniels. I am listening to Meding on audio and have to wait a few months for the audio to drop. Gah the wait is awful.

  11. Best of luck with your half marathon training! The best I've managed was a 10k before I hurt my leg, but I loved the excitement and camaraderie of the races :-)

  12. Good luck with your half marathon training!!! I used to run cross-country in high school, but now I prefer the slower pace of hiking. :D

    1. Thanks, Lark! I like hiking, too, but I can't go on the trails alone because I don't feel safe. I can run alone in places that are well traveled and visible, even so, I have my pepper spray just in case.

  14. I enjoyed Stray Magic. There's a prequel short in the anthology Carniepunk which was really good. I want to read the other two you read, at some point. Anne - Books of My Heart
