My Thoughts:

So I’ve never read anything by Kylie Scott, but this story captured my attention when Lindsi featured it on her Can’t Wait Wednesday post.  There’s something about a second chance romance that grabs me every time, but there’s a twist with this one because the hero and heroine split up in a nasty, heart-shattering breakup, but then the heroine is attacked and forgets everything! 

Clementine is trying to piece together her previous life after losing all her memories; she can scramble and egg, drive a car, but doesn’t remember people or relationships. She shows up at Ed’s tattoo shop to ask about her tattoo and finds out that she and Ed used to date, seriously, until she dumped him, and broke both their hearts. This was a total scorched earth kind of break-up and Ed is pissed to see her until he finds out about the attack. Sure, he’s still got the walls up, but he agrees to answer her questions about their previous life. Even though Clementine doesn’t remember their relationship, her body and heart are immediately drawn to Ed, and it just felt like a meant-to-be, fated romance, no matter what happened in the past.

Clementine is different this time around, the brain injury has made it so she doesn’t have as many filters, inhibitions, or impulse controls, so a lot of times she just speaks whatever is on her mind, damn the consequences.  This is actually a good thing, because non-communication was an issue for the past ED and Clementine.   

This is my first experience reading Kylie Scott, but it won’t be my last. Clementine and Ed’s story was emotional and HOT! Their chemistry was off the charts, and the story was so engrossing I finished this audio book within a 24-hour period despite having to work and attend to real-life. I HAD to know what happened to Ed and Clementine the first time around, if they’d make it now, and even though I had a good idea who was responsible for her attack, I had to know how it’d all play out! 

Andi Arndt’s performance was brilliant! I loved the matter-of-fact way she did Clementine’s voice, it was so fitting given Clem’s state of mind, so clinical and analyzing at times, and just honest. So refreshing.  Her portrayal of Ed was wonderful as well, and I’d be even more inclined to pick up a book if I knew Ms. Arndt would be narrating.
