Sunday Post #248

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.

It's been a busy week. I worked, did a bunch of gardening, went on some runs, and then my youngest sister flew in from Southern California on Friday. My middle sister is the one that lives up here and so we took our sister out for dinner, then went to Empire Mine, which is a historic state park with gardens. We took a tour and then went out to Nevada City, another historic miners town a few miles north of us.

The Bourne family estate (one of them)

The blacksmith shop

One of the processing buildings

Climbing rose on the house

Thank goodness the mine is no longer operating since they used very toxic ways to extract gold and the process was supposedly very loud!

We came back to my house and cooked dinner. We had a nice visit!

After a few rainy days, Peanut is enjoying the warmer weather.

  2. The old mining methods were destructive but the attitudes were so different then. Every resource seemed inexhaustible. Looks as though they cleaned up the town to be for tourists.

    1. Yes, the mindset is totally different, thank goodness! The guide talked about a bunch of miners dying off within 5 years because of breathing in all the dust from drilling before they the dust was toxic. So awful what they did to make a buck. They did clean things up and are still cleaning things up from all the damage done from mining here!

  6. That's nice you got some family time and all the other tasks completed too! I want to read Effie Olson's Summer Special but opted for the library because a different indie author thing came up for the end of the month here. Happy reading!

  8. My husband is a rockhound, and he loved to take us to old mines and hunt through the rocks there. Most of those sites are no longer open because there are such dangerous ores mixed in.

I'm looking forward to reading Funny Story soon.

    1. It was a beautiful estate. I can't imagine it wouldn't be a peaceful place to live back in the day with all the noise, though. Thankfully the mine is defunct! Thank you, Erin! :)

  15. I see that you really loved that Emily Henry, happy to see your read lineup. So many good releases there for you to read this past week. Mining can be loud haha it must be a relief not to have to worry about that anymore.
