It's been a busy week. I worked, did a bunch of gardening, went on some runs, and then my youngest sister flew in from Southern California on Friday. My middle sister is the one that lives up here and so we took our sister out for dinner, then went to Empire Mine, which is a historic state park with gardens. We took a tour and then went out to Nevada City, another historic miners town a few miles north of us.

Thank goodness the mine is no longer operating since they used very toxic ways to extract gold and the process was supposedly very loud!
We came back to my house and cooked dinner. We had a nice visit!
After a few rainy days, Peanut is enjoying the warmer weather.

DeleteThe old mining methods were destructive but the attitudes were so different then. Every resource seemed inexhaustible. Looks as though they cleaned up the town to be for tourists.

Yes, the mindset is totally different, thank goodness! The guide talked about a bunch of miners dying off within 5 years because of breathing in all the dust from drilling before they the dust was toxic. So awful what they did to make a buck. They did clean things up and are still cleaning things up from all the damage done from mining here!

DeleteMy husband is a rockhound, and he loved to take us to old mines and hunt through the rocks there. Most of those sites are no longer open because there are such dangerous ores mixed in.

DeleteI toured the Empire Mine as a grade school kid and have enjoyed Nevada City a few times. Sweet you could go out with your sisters. Looks like nice weather for your kitty to go exploring in.
