About the book:
Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

My Thoughts:

Avery has had a really rough life. She decides moving away for college is a good way to start over and forget about her past. She makes a few friends immediately (Jacob & Brit), but her walls are always up. Until she literally runs into Cameron Hamilton on the way to her first class.

“I’m used to having girls throw themselves at me. Trying to jump on my back is new, though. Kind of liked it.”

Cam is one of the best guys I have ever read in this genre. Sweet, sexy, romantic, patient, considerate, hilarious. He is the definition of swoon-worthy. And he turns out to be Avery's neighbor and astronomy class partner.

They slowly become friends, having to work together for class, and then Cam starts finding ways into her life. He's persistant and although she refuses to 'go out with him', he is determined to break down her walls and convince her to give him a shot. He wants more from her and she's starting to see that he is different and may be worth it...

“Go out with me,”
“No,”
“There’s always tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow’s not going to change anything.”
“We’ll see.”
“There’s nothing to see. You’re wasting your time.”
“When it concerns you, it’s never a waste of my time.”

Oh..Cam...swoon...

“I’m serious about you, Avery. If you want me for real, you have me.”

“I want you for real.”

But they are both holding on to secrets that have the potential to tear them apart. There is no shortage of drama and angst in this book - just let me warn you. Avery's determination to keep her secret and distance became really frustrating but it was worth it to see how she evolved and became a better person. And Cam was a SAINT. Although he had his limits too, he was always there for her and knew deep down there was something keeping her from totally trusting in him. Yet despite whatever it was - he refused to give up on her. It was that love and determination that helped Avery to open her eyes to what she was doing.

Romantic, steamy, funny, gut-wrenching (my stomach was in knots for a good portion of this book!)...the build up of their friendship-turned-romance was perfect. I adored every single minute of this book!

  1. I'm still reading this one and I am also loving every single paragraph. Some of it seems a bit cliche' but that's okay, sometimes, cliche' works just fine. :) Great review!

  3. I agree with you! Cam was a freaking saint. He stayed by Avery's side and made her breakfast and baked goods. Can I have him? lol. Great review!! <3 I'm a huge JLA fan. Have you read her other books?

  4. awesome review -- loved this book too and my review will be up later this week! I know I am a JLA fan girl but I loved Avery and Cam and there was something really fun/lighthearted about their banter (even in spite of all the bad things going on)!
