Sunday Post #185

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

We're making big strides with our kitchen remodel. The cabinets and hardware are all in we just need the countertops installed. The fabricator said they might have it ready to install before Thanksgiving, but I'm not holding my breath. It's a pain to cook and clean with no kitchen sink (been doing dishes in the laundry room), but it's a temporary situation. My bathroom is almost 100% done. I'll post before-and-afters soon.

Work was kind of a nightmare on Monday with a new doctor. She's nice, but I can tell she's a newer doctor and she made a lot of extra work. I had a horrible migraine by the end of the day, another on Friday at the end of work. I'm happy I'm mostly only working two days a week now and I'm only on one more day with her this month.

The weather has been gorgeous this week. Still a little cold (high 50s/low 30s) but it's been clear and sunny. I went on a new hike today, which was so pretty with fall colors! After my husband and I tried a new place to eat in Nevada City. A walk-up brewery/bakery and the food was delicious! All fresh local farm produce, dairy and meat. Good but pricey, but I guess everything is lately.

I enjoyed all three books. I finished The Second Christmas a few days ago but put off writing my review because I just didn't feel like getting on the computer. Work and constant whatnot just kind of did me in this last week. I just wanted to start my next book and read.

Received/Purchased/Library Lend:

I loved One Plus One by Jojo Moyes so I was excited to get a copy of Someone Else's Shoes. I let out a happy squeal when I saw the email for Hello Stranger! I don't read much YA anymore, but after reading Carole's review I requested an audio of Sugaring Off. I have a lot of library audios to get through before they expire!

My current read. I'm enjoying it!

How was your week?

  3. Glad to hear all things are going well with the remodel. I bet you can't wait to just sit back and enjoy you showplace. You are one of the few to sing the praises of One Plus One. I loved that book too!!! I am eager to hear your thoughts on Moyes' newest. I hope you can get the new doctor trained, so they don't make your workday terrible.

    1. Thank, Sam! You're so right. Really, there wasn't a lot of love for One Plus One? I thought it was soooo good, and hilarious in spots. She'll catch on eventually. Just being really cautious and that's not a bad thing.

  5. Sounds like there's an end in sight with the remodel. Yay! Hopefully the new doctor finds her stride soon - and until then glad you aren't scheduled with her often. I wasn't even aware of the new one from Moyes. Can't wait to see what you think of it!

  6. Beautiful scenery!
I hope the countertop is in sooner rather than later, I’m sure it would make Thanksgiving easier.
Glad to learn a new Moyes is coming.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. I hope so too, but it probably won't. We're having dinner at a friends with my sister, so it's okay if it's not done. Thanks, Shelleyrae! Back at you! :)

  8. I really enjoy seeing your photos and hearing about your remodeling. I love the planning and design but hate the actual construction. I just finished A Very Merry Bromance and enjoyed it more than I expected.

    1. Thanks, Anne. I love the scenery on my hike! I want my husband and sister to come with next time. The fall leaves will probably be gone by then, though. I'm looking forward to getting a good chunk read tonight so I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! :)

  9. Great week you have had there. I love all the photos you shared. Nature is a beautiful thing no matter the season right? I feel ya on computer stuff. Sometimes you just want to be away from it. I love seeing the Katherine Center on your list, I need to pick her up soon! Hope you enjoy that YA though.

    1. Thanks, Renee! Yes, there's beauty in every season and I'm fortunate enough to have moved to a pretty place. I know, right? Sometimes I just want to cut myself off from everything and read! Katherine Center is so good! Me too! :)

  10. Looks like a gorgeous hike and sounds like you had a good week (away from work anyway). We all deserve the chance to avoid the computer for a bit and just read a book. Good for you. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving.

    1. Yes! I love suspension bridges! Any bridge really, but they're especially fun and a little scary walking on them when they're swinging!

  14. I love that suspension bridge! And sorry the new doctor is not fun to work with. Co-workers that cause headaches are never fun. Have a great week! :D

  15. That restaurant sounds nice. Love the hike pics too- the bridge and the creek. Looks beautiful there.

    The Second Christmas looks nice.

It's 27 here but sunny. Beautiful blue sky and snow. It's pretty but I think I'd like your temps a little more. :)

Have a great week! Happy thanksgiving!!

    1. It is hard to find the motivation to go out when it's cold! Beanie, scarf, mittens and coat. Or read by a nice warm fire, lol! Thanks! I'm looking forward to it. :)

  17. Hopefully, the rookie doctor will get up to speed soon for you. That would be fab if your installment can be in by Thanksgiving and I look forward to the bathroom pics. Lovely walking trail. My parents used to loved to stay over and eat at Grandmere's Inn in Nevada City when I was a kid. I wonder if its still there.
Glad you enjoyed your books this week. I had a good time with Sandcastle Hurricane, too. Yay for getting the books you wanted.

Have a great week and Thanksgiving, Rachel!

  18. What beautiful pictures, Rachel. Your walk must be so invigorating, yet peaceful. I hope the new doctor gets up to speed so you don't end up with migraines on a regular basis. I have Sandcastle Hurricane to read and am waiting patiently for my name to get to the top of the library list for A Very Merry Bromance. Have a wonderful week, Rachel.
