Sunday Post #252

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.

Getting home from Montana on Tuesday was uneventful other than having to wake up at 3am to make out 5:40am flight. My poor husband came down with bronchitis while there and spent a lot of time in bed. We were both bushed once we got home, but I had to unpack and water the property since it's been hot. Thank goodness my sister and BIL came over while we were gone and watered for us. We hope to have our watering system in place before our next trip.

It's been hot here with temps in the high 80s, but it's been cooling down to 40s-50s at night. We ran our A/C for the first time this year today only because we were having company here for dinner.

  1. I hope the husband is feeling better. It's awful to be sick while on a trip. It's also been in high 80s during the day, 50s early morning/night here. I have to layer when I leave for work.

    1. Thanks! He's got the cough that won't quit. The temp range is large, but I'm happy it cools off at night.

  2. Those roses! I think I can smell their fragrance from here.

I'm in the mood for some light summer reads. I need to look for a couple of the books you listed.

  3. Ugh, it is no fun to be sick when you're on a vacation! Hope he's better now. Love those roses! I wish I had more of a green thumb sometimes. I've got a few of the same books as you, and I need to get around and read past reviews soon! Have a good week!

  4. The Shelia's Perfume rose is stunning! I love multi-colored roses, and that combo is gorgeous. I have one rogue rosebush in my yard that I refer to as the "demon rosebush," because it grows and grows and blooms, but gets ignored. I'm not even sure how it got there. I've always thought roses were fussy, but this one is not!

    1. Shelia's Perfume is such a great performer and smells wonderful! Yes, roses are pretty hardy. I have one here that I didn't plant. Not something I would've picked being such a low petal count but it thrives and blooms!

  5. Oh no, I feel for your husband. I have had bronchitis many, many times and it always knocks me down hard. I hope he feels better soon. Hope you enjoyed your dinner guests!

    1. I've had bronchitis several times as well. A relapse on vacation in Europe (not fun) and yes, it knocks you down! It's the cough that lingers after everything else is gone that's terrible. That's where he is now. He needs rest and I've been giving him some golden seal and vitamin C hoping it'll help. The night time is always the worst! We had a great time with them!

  6. You have roses and other beautiful plants so soon after moving. I'd be exhausted if I traveled so much. I think Montana better than Texas since I don't like too much heat. You are reading some great books.

    1. I planted a bunch! The garden was one of my top priorities moving here. To be fair, just the native plants here are gorgeous so I got lucky there. Montana is way better! Texas is too hot in the summer for me. I am exhausted, Anne. I always say I'm not going to go anywhere and I get talked into another trip. I just want to be home for a while.

  9. Glad you got home safely. What a bummer your hubby got sick for your trip. We ran the air once earlier last week when it got hot and sticky.
Nice reading numbers you put up for the month. Lovely roses!

    Have a good week, Rachel!

    1. Thanks, Sophia! I hate having to run the A/C before summer is officially here, but it is what it is. Thanks!

  10. Is there anything more maddening than starting a vacation or holiday with an illness? Poor guy.

Those roses are beautiful and that book title looks intriguing.

    1. Me too! I had bronchitis while out of the country and lived on cold meds until I got into a pharmacist there. I felt really bad for him! Thank you! I hope you have a great week, too! :)

  12. I turn my AC on when it hits the upper 80's too. It's been 104 here for the past couple of days.

  13. Sorry to hear the husband was sick. Those early am flights are tough. All your book picks look great. We don't have ac on in the day but do need to turn it on when we go to bed.

    1. They are tough! But you get to your destination early and usually avoid a lot of travel shenanigans. Still, I'm beat after. We haven't had to have the A/C since, it's been pretty cool today but we're in for a heat wave so I'm sure we'll run it. We do cool down by night so that's good at least.

  14. Beautiful roses! Where in Montana were you? We are not far from the border there and just went thru the state on our road trip back. Was it a hiking trip? Hope you all are rested again and had a good time. I'll be curious to see if you like the Kimi Grant book ... Her last one was pretty good. Enjoy your week.

    1. Thank you! Were were in Deer Lodge, about an hour east of Missoula. It wasn't a hiking trip, but I did manage to get away for a hike. We were with our daughter, SIL, and grandkids. We go there every year, usually a few times during the summer with them. I enjoyed the last Kimi Grant book, as well. I was happy to get an audio copy. I've seen some mixed reviews so we'll see. I hope you enjoy your week too!

  15. We are having to water quite a bit too! It looks like we got some of the same titles this week, so I'll be eager to see how our responses to them compare.

    1. I've noticed it's been hot in Texas! I check the weather in Austin from time to time because my daughter lives there. Do you think the higher humidity makes it so you don't have to water as much otherwise? We do seem to read a lot of the same thriller/mysteries and I enjoy your take on them!
