Blog Tour. Review, Cut Scene & Giveaway: Cross & Crown by Abigail Roux

Today on Waves of Fiction I am excited to join in the publisher blog tour for Cross & Crown by Abigail Roux!  Ms. Roux writes one of my all time favorite series and I love helping out with her tours anyway that I can.  For today's stop I have a very special cut scene to share, an amazing giveaway, and my review.  I hope you enjoy!

Cut Scene!
Nick was silent as he looked out on the moonlit fields. They were peaceful now, but it seemed there were echoes of gunfire and cannon blasting, bayonets clashing, men and horses screaming in fear and pain.

“It doesn’t really matter why, or how history writes it down,” Nick said. “The only thing that matters is that every man out there believed in what he was doing. He was standing on this ground, willing to take a bullet fired by his brother, to protect something he thought was worth dying for. That country. That king. That ideal. That land back home. That flag. That man leading him. That man standing beside him.” Nick’s voice filled with emotion and he lowered his head. “The burden of death and bravery in places like this is heavy. I’ve always been able to feel it. Someone should feel it.”

Even if Kelly hadn’t already felt the power of this place, it came through clearly in Nick’s voice. It was holy ground, in its own way, bearing the gravity of the past up in what were now wild green pastures dotted with stone and tourists. The agony of it. The struggle. And Nick believed the same as those men, felt it down to his bones. Call it patriotism. Heroism. Integrity. Honor. That indefinable something that had driven so many men to die for something they felt more important than life also lived inside Nick. It had lived inside their team. And if what he believed in was threatened, he’d do the same as they had done; die defending it.

Kelly’s chest constricted as he looked at Nick’s profile in the moonlight. He had never believed that men like this still existed, not until he’d met Sidewinder.

Nick’s breath billowed in front of him in the cold. His eyes were taking in the battlefield, seeing things Kelly couldn’t see, remembering things Kelly had lived with him. Kelly swallowed hard and set one hand lightly on Nick’s shoulder. He couldn’t think of anything to say, so he didn’t speak at all.

When Nick O'Flaherty arrives at the scene of a double homicide to find he has a witness to the crime, he thinks it’s his lucky day. But when he realizes his witness is suffering from amnesia and can’t even remember his own name, Nick wishes he’d gone with his gut and put in for vacation time.

Then Nick’s boyfriend and former Recon teammate, Kelly Abbott, joins him in Boston, and Nick finds his hands a little too full as the case and his personal life collide. The witness he’s dubbed “JD” is being tailed by Julian Cross, a retired CIA hitman. To complicate matters further, JD forms an attachment to Nick that Nick struggles not to respond to as they search for the key to JD’s identity.

Trying to determine whether JD is friend or foe as they investigate the crime puts them on the trail of a much older mystery. When multiple attempts are made on their lives, Nick is forced to turn to old enemies and new allies to solve a centuries-old crime before he and Kelly get added to the history books
My Thoughts:
I beginning to realize that I really need to acquire every book that Abigail Roux has ever written.  I absolutely love this womans writing and characters!  Cross & Crown is another great addition to my favorite shelf!

In Cross & Crown we get another dose of Nick and Kelly.  These two are so different from one another, but they make perfect sense.  Throughout their scenes together I really can see how they work and how they are just meant to be together.  This story with them though was about more than just them discovering their feelings for each other.  In this installment we got to go on an amazing treasure hunting story that I really did enjoy.  We get to see how much of a history nerd Nick and you know what it was kinda hot I gotta say.  I feel like this is a whole new side of him that I really needed to see.  He isn't just a badass with a gun, he has depth behind those muscles.  The story wasn't an easy one to figure out and I did like where it went.  I won't lie though a lot of it went over my head so I wish the history would have been a little watered down, but I found that I could still enjoy the story even with all the history stuff passing me by.  And I can't not mention Julian Cross!  I really have to get my hands on this mans story!  He is all kinds of awesome and I just want to find out more about him!!

Nick and Kelly are hot together.  I wasn't sure how I would like them but I mean come on they can both hold their own in a fight and they are both good with guns what more do you need??  I like how they are really in tune with each other and I really appreciate the back storylines that the author has thrown in.  It is a little strange that they haven't ever had any romantic interaction before but with the back stories we get to see why that line wasn't crossed and we even get to see that feelings were already developing back then.  It is a little weird that this couple is so open with their relationship but I am just chalking that up to reading seven installments with Ty & Zane where things were hidden.  I like that Nick is open and lets everyone see who he loves.

Another note to be aware of is that if you haven't read the eighth book in the Cut & Run series you might want to do that before diving into this one.  I am holding that last book until just the right moment and in doing that I did hit some major spoilers for both couples in this one.  I can say though I am definitely looking forward to reading that eighth book even more now because I think it holds a lot of those unanswered questions that popped up in Shock & Awe.  I want to see what happened when everyone found out about Nick and Kelly and I want to know how they themselves handled the situation. I thought I was getting that in this installment but this one was more about them settling into their relationship and trying to figure out what that next step is for them.  Who moves where, what kinda job should they do that kinda stuff.  It was still good don't get me wrong, but I missed the inbetween stuff.  I like the inbetween stuff.

Is this Ty & Zane no, but Nick & Kelly are very nice filler that will definitely keep me entertained while I wait for the next C&R installment.  We all need great filler inbetween releases and well these two are the best filler ever.  Heart pounding scenes. steamy cut scenes and amazing chemistry is what this book is all about!  I can't wait to see what happens next with these two!!

Review: Fish & Chips (Cut & Run #3) by Madeleine Urban & Abigail Roux

Fish & Chips (Cut & Run #3) by Madeleine Urban, Abigail Roux
Published December 6th 2010 by Dreamspinner Press

Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett are back on the job, settled into a personal and professional relationship built on fierce protectiveness and blistering passion. Now they're assigned to impersonate two members of an international smuggling ring-an out-and-proud married couple-on a Christmas cruise in the Caribbean. As their boss says, surely they'd rather kiss each other than be shot at, and he has no idea how right he is. Portraying the wealthy criminals requires a particular change in attitude from Ty and Zane while dealing with the frustrating waiting game of their assignment. As it begins to affect how they treat each other in private, Ty and Zane realize there's more to being partners than watching each other's backs, and when the case takes an unexpected turn and threatens Ty's life, Ty and Zane will have to navigate seas of white lies and stormy secrets, including some of their own.

Arlene's Thoughts:

"I wish I was what you believe... I wish I was what you need me to be."
"Zane," he said hoarsely. "You're everything I need you to be."

FIVE.MIND-BLOWING.STARS!! BEST.ONE.YET!!

Just when I think I’ve read the best possible book in the series, I move on to the next installment and it proves me wrong. The Cut & Run series truly keeps getting better and better with each book! I loved every moment of Fish & Chips and then some! Ty and Zane keep the momentum at high impact and romance is always off the charts. They are officially my favorite couple! More please!!

In Fish & Chips, Ty and Zane are finally placed on a case that takes them to the high seas for a fifteen day cruise on the Caribbean… as a married couple. (Yes… yes.. I was squeeing too!) Their objective is to bring down the Porters who are implicated in numerous high-end thefts. They are being detained by the FBI, and were scheduled to set sail the following day. Ty and Zane are assigned to impersonate these two dealers and gather as much intell as possible to apprehend as many players from their illegal ring.

Right from the beginning, I had a feeling Ty and Zane were set to fail. Their preparation for the case was extremely rushed and there were too many possible flaws in the plan to make it go off without a hitch. So when they boarded the ship for their assignment, I was ready for all sorts of drama and adventure. Well true to plan, I wasn’t disappointed. Ty and Zane crash into just about every obstacle with the grace of a new born fawn. As much as I enjoyed the constant action, there were moments where I just wanted them to land a break in the case.

I think the most emotional scene was the pool scene and I must say, as bad as I felt for Zane, I felt that Ty handled it well. Their relationship is plagued with a ton of issues, and it will take a lot to get these guys to overcome their hang-ups.

As far as their relationship goes, I feel they face constant stops and starts, but that never deters from the romance that explodes off the pages in this book. This book really turned it up a notch, or two, or three. Ty and Zane are great together, and I can’t wait to see their relationship continue to grow.

Overall, the pacing of this book is a steady constant of action, which keeps me glued to the pages, but it’s the well-crafted characters and their undeniable chemistry that make me a huge fan of theirs. Can’t wait to read the next installment, and I’m already dreading tearing through this series too quickly because I enjoy them too too much! Love.love.love…

Crystal's Thoughts:
Okay people IT. JUST. GOT. REAL!  This next installment in the Cut & Run series is hotter, crazier, and sexier and and OMG it just is!!  I didn't think things could get any steamier since I have already read 2 previous books, but my on my Ty & Zane know how to keep things interesting that's for sure!

This book takes Ty & Zane on a cruise that has them impersonating two thieves and these two thieves just happen to be an out and proud married couple!  This sets the scene for some hot chemistry by the pool and it was so awesome to see them react to one another without worrying who might be looking.  There are a lot of squee worthy moments and my heart is still fluttering!  There is also plenty of action..err the cops and robbers action I mean that keeps the storyline moving at a fast pace.

There is one scene that made me stop for a minute and really look at Zane.  His actions were not what I expected and I was so upset with him when he chose certain things over listening to his partner.  Ty really surprised me though and I have to say I have a whole new appreciation for him.  Ty gives a lot and doesn't ask for a lot in return, but damn Zane he better start returning even if Ty isn't asking!  I am asking!  I really want to see Ty lose some of his hang ups and let Ty in.  They both deserve nothing less and I know that when that moment finally happens it will be explosive!

This is by far my favorite of the series so far for so many many reasons.  I think Ty really took their relationship up a notch and I can't wait to see how Zane reacts and he better react!!

About the book
A series of murders in New York City has stymied the police and FBI alike, and they suspect the culprit is a single killer sending an indecipherable message. But when the two federal agents assigned to the investigation are taken out, the FBI takes a more personal interest in the case.

Special Agent Ty Grady is pulled out of undercover work after his case blows up in his face. He's cocky, abrasive, and indisputably the best at what he does. But when he's paired with Special Agent Zane Garrett, it's hate at first sight. Garrett is the perfect image of an agent: serious, sober, and focused, which makes their partnership a classic clich: total opposites, good cop-bad cop, the odd couple. They both know immediately that their partnership will pose more of an obstacle than the lack of evidence left by the murderer.

Practically before their special assignment starts, the murderer strikes again this time at them. Now on the run, trying to track down a man who has focused on killing his pursuers, Grady and Garrett will have to figure out how to work together before they become two more notches in the murderer's knife.

My Thoughts:
My first attachment to M/M was Qhuinn and Blay from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. There was just something about these two men that totally grabbed me and I was addicted to them.  Unfortunately after reading their story in the latest BDB release I was very disappointed and thought I would never find what I had hoped for when I picked up their book. Boy was I wrong!  Ty and Zane are everything that I wanted Qhuay to be and more!  I am so glad that I picked this book up!  I will always love Qhuay, but Ty and Zane are my new addiction!

Ty and his badarse self gets paired with Zane to investigate a serial killer.  This killer is like no other and they find that he might be someone on the inside.  This case was intense and I found myself on the edge of my seat the entire time.  Sometimes side stories in books bother me, but not this one.  I guessed the killer really early on, but it still didn't stop me from loving the mystery.

The main story is Ty and Zane's relationship and it was beyond explosive.  These two I just have no words for.  I felt their struggles and I was so surprised at how their roles with each other changed mid story.  It felt right for the story though and honestly for the first time in a long time I can say that this story was more realistic than fiction.  People don't go through what these two went through and come through fine and dandy.  The authors let both characters have scars and they showed.  I really appreciated this because it made them all the more real and it showed the damage that was done.  I will say these two have a long road ahead of them, but I plan to be front and center to watch it all unfold.

Ty is by far one of my favorite characters EVER!  From page one he had my attention and even though I love Zane too, Ty holds my heart.  His humor and well just everything about him is fanfreakingtastic!  He is a Recon Marine need I say more??!! I think I tagged at least 40 different parts of the story just because of him.

“Zane’s good hand flashed out and smacked Ty upside the back of the head. “Ow! What the hell?” Ty cried as he rubbed his head and huffed. “You’re lucky I repress the Instakill for you,” he muttered.”

LOVE him!  Plus after reading this I knew I was never going to be able to put these books down.

“It was now or never. Zane took a slow, deep breath and ducked his chin, tilted his head sideways, and slid his lips firmly against Ty’s.”

That part right there did me in.   These two danced around each other so much and when the moment finally happened it was everything I could have hoped for and so much more.   I can't describe that moment but *sigh* it was just brilliant.  I also have to mention the honestly between Ty and Zane.  With so much alpha going on I honestly thought they wouldn't ever talk or give in, but from the get go you get to see each of them let their guards down and I loved it.  Their confessions may have been in hushed whispers but they heard each other loud and clear.  And I cannot wait to hear more!
