Review & Giveaway: Midnight Target by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: April 25th 2017 by Berkley Books

About the book:

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Score and Midnight Revenge...

Four years ago, Cate’s entire life changed when she discovered she was the daughter of a supersoldier. But Jim Morgan’s overprotectiveness has pushed her away. These days, she’s working as a freelance photographer and living the dangerous life Jim never wanted for her.

When Cate snaps a photo linking a corrupt South American politician with the leader of a notorious drug cartel, her mercenary father leads a team to rescue her—only to get shot and critically wounded in the process.

As Morgan’s operatives rally together on a revenge mission, they’re faced with new alliances and old heartaches. Cate is forced to work with David “Ash” Ashton, the man who broke her heart two years ago, while Liam Macgregor and Sullivan Port resurface after years apart to finally try to deal with everything they’d left unsaid.

Soon it’s all-out war between the cartel and the mercenaries—with two couples caught in the middle of the blood feud. Love and redemption are within their reach...but first they have to make it home alive.

My Thoughts:
Cate, Morgan’s daughter, quit college and moved onto photography, taking her all over the world, much to Morgan’s disappointment.  He wanted Cate to stay in college, graduate, meet a nice (boring) man, and settle down. Morgan didn’t want his mercenary soldiers anywhere near his daughter.  Unfortunately for Mogan, years at the compound meant that Cate formed a friendship and powerful attraction to the youngest merc of his team: David “Ash” Ashton.  They got each other, connecting as friends before the attraction ever came into play.  But every time Cate would see the heat creep into Ash’s eyes, he’d shut it down and run for cover.  Finally, when Cate laid herself bare, Ash turned her away and broke her heart.  Two years later she’s out on her own, loving her work and trying to forget she ever met Ash.  That is until Cate snaps a photo and all hell breaks loose.  Now Ash is back in her life trying to protect her whether she wants him there or not.

Ash has had it bad for Cate, Morgan’s daughter since she was seventeen and very off limits. She’s now of age at twenty-one, but Morgan, his boss, has made it clear that he wants better for his daughter. Maybe if it were any other man Ash wouldn’t care, but Morgan accepted him into his band of men, became like a father he never had, so his approval means a lot.  What is and isn’t important quickly clarifies for Ash when Cate’s life is at stake.  He burns for Cate, especially at the thought of losing her forever! Will she take a chance on him after the way he treated her?

Liam and Sully have been dancing around each other in several books. Their story has been quite tumultuous. Every time I thought the walls would come down, some wrench would get thrown in the works.  Engaging in several threesomes over the years, they’ve got a look at each other in the height of passion and their attraction just grew and magnified from there. The sexual tension between them was palpable! Liam’s traditional upbringing was an issue. He didn’t know how his family would take the news that he’s bisexual.  Sully, on the other hand, had past demons that made committing to a relationship seem impossible.  I was thoroughly ready for these two to finally sort everything out and come together, and it was lovely!

Oh, unrequited romance! Both are filled with longing and pain from perceived rejection! With Elle Kennedy you just know the payoff is gonna be really hot, and really good! She definitely knows how to turn up the heat! In between the adrenaline rush from the life and death situations these two couples face, they manage to get some very sexy alone time!

I was really worried for the team, hoping none of my favorite characters would bite the dust, because everyone was a target to this psycho killer! The suspense part of this romantic suspense kept me on the edge of my seat at times!

I’ve loved the Killer Instincts series from the beginning, so I have bittersweet emotions knowing this is the last book.  On one hand, I’m thrilled to finally get Sully and Liam’s and Cate and Ash’s romances, but I’m sad to say goodbye!  Midnight Target was everything I wanted, especially in Sully and Liam’s case, and the epilogue was wonderful!  If you haven’t had a chance to read this series, this is the perfect time to pick it up!  All the books are out! Each couple had an exciting and passionate story, and who doesn’t love a good series binge read?!

Review, Excerpt & Giveaway: Ruled by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: November 1st 2016 by Berkley
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

The latest novel in the series with the “sexiest, baddest, hottest”* outlaws around, from the New York Times bestselling author of Claimed.

In the latest novel in the series with the “sexiest, baddest, hottest”* outlaws around, one woman must choose between the two men who want to claim her...

...Or does she?

Despite his magnetic personality, Rylan can’t seem to seduce Reese, the deadly leader of their town of outlaws. Winning her over is a welcome challenge, but her indifference isn’t the only thing standing in his way. If he wants Reese, Rylan must also win over Sloan, her stoic protector...

Sloan has always loved Reese, but their painful past has stolen his chances of a future with her. Rylan’s interest in Reese only intensifies the tension—until Sloan begins to wonder if the reckless man might be the one person who can bridge the distance...

The last time Reese fell for the wrong man, she had no choice but to kill him. Now, she desperately wants to take what both Rylan and Sloan are offering. But if she makes the wrong call again, she risks losing them both.

My Thoughts:
Rylan has had it bad for Foxworth’s leader, Reese, but she keeps rejecting his offers.  Things change when her trusted friend and perpetual companion, Sloan, pushes her toward Rylan.  The three of them tangle together, heated bodies and hearts!  They must navigate this new dynamic while keeping one step ahead of the Global Council and the Enforcers that constantly threaten their survival.  Reese’s new plans could wipe them out or take the outlaws a step closer to living free of GC’s oppressive dominance.

Ruled was wickedly hot! If you’ve read my reviews here, you know I usually don’t like multiples in a romance, but Elle Kennedy sold me on this threesome.  Rylan, Sloan, and Reese were magnetic together! Rylan has been hot for Reese for a while, and they definitely threw out sparks with every encounter in the last book.  I knew we’d get their romance, but the surprise came from the powerful attraction and chemistry between Sloan and Rylan! Add in Reese and their encounters were off the charts intense and combustible!  Ms. Kennedy made their connection feel real by making their relationship more than just sex, each provided comfort, understanding and support.

Ruled was another exciting installment in the Outlaws series! A perfect combination of action, danger, and an intensely hot romance!

Excerpt:

It wasn’t a lover’s kiss. It wasn’t sweet or gentle or at all romantic. It was a feral attack by the animal Sloan kept caged. The one Reese had seen with Rylan. The one that prowled at the edges of what seemed to be his endless control.
He forced her mouth open, ravaging her with his tongue. She stood still for a moment, stunned by the power of his kiss, and then all of her inhibitions crumpled under the heat and pressure of his lust. With a strangled moan, she dug her nails into his shoulder and climbed him like a tree until her legs could wrap around his waist.
Sloan used his lower body strength to pin her to the wall. A commanding palm angled her jaw until he could plunder her mouth mercilessly. She dug her boot heels into his lower back and leveraged his own body against him, while her hands moved to claw his neck, score his scalp, marking him with everything she had.
“Fucking hell,” he groaned against her mouth. Then he grabbed her ass and held her while grinding his hips into hers. His cock was hard enough that it felt like iron between her legs.
She’d always worried about losing him. Always relied on his control whenever hers was weak. Except now he’d lost his, and if they were going to survive this, she had to find the will to break away.
But any semblance of rational thought was being pulverized with each invasion of his tongue, each pulse of his steel shaft against her core. The fervid attraction that had simmered between them for so long, that had been pushed back to the dim recesses of their minds, was coming to life. And it would devour them if one of them didn’t slam on the brakes.
As always, it was Sloan who found the strength. His lips gentled and the hand on her ass dropped away. He broke contact with her mouth and rested his forehead against hers, his chest bellowing like a thoroughbred’s. His heart beat wildly against her chest until he finally straightened and stepped away.
The loss was so acute, she nearly snatched him back. But if he could find his control, so could she.
“Go then and be careful,” he said gruffly.
Dry-mouthed and aching at the loss of his touch, she whispered, “Always.”
He drew a shaky hand through his hair before spinning on his heel. When he threw open the door, Rylan was behind it, his hand raised and a smile on his face.
One look at Sloan’s thunderous face and Rylan’s grin faded. “Did I interrupt something?”
Sloan didn’t look back at Reese, but she didn’t miss the slight slump of his shoulders. He thought he was being replaced, she realized.
But why? Why now? Sloan had never cared whom she slept with in the past. He’d always known that she relied on him more than anyone alive, but in that dip of his broad back, Reese now read fear. Fear that he was being replaced by the man in her bed.
She wasn’t sure if she should correct that assumption. If she did, she’d be risking a repeat of what had just happened. Sloan was her heart, even more than this town, and she refused to let her own selfish desires cost her the very last thing in her life that she cared about.
So she licked her lips and said, “No, Rylan, I need you.”
The words were like a shot to Sloan’s spine—or maybe a knife. He didn’t take Rylan by the throat, but he might as well have.
“She comes back with so much as a scratch and I’m peeling the skin from your bones, one painful inch at a time,” he hissed at Rylan. “If she dies, you better run, because when I catch you—and I will—you’ll wish you’d bled out beside her.”

Review & Giveaway: Addicted by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: June 28th 2016 by Signet
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

From the New York Times bestselling author of Claimed comes the second enticingly erotic novel set in a world on the brink of chaos.

Lennox used to live in a paradise on earth with his best friend Jamie, in a place where visitors came and went, allowing their desires to run free. But everything changes when a deadly attack forces them to take up with Connor Mackenzie’s band of Outlaws. Lennox knows Jamie is hung up on someone else, but he’s always believed he’s the man for her—and won’t let her go without a fight.

Even though Jamie is well aware that Lennox is one hot specimen of a man, she refuses to let sex ruin the most important relationship in her life. But when the object of her interest spurns her, she indulges in a little pleasure-filled revenge with her very magnetic, very willing best friend. One thrilling night with Lennox is enough to awaken Jamie’s unexpected desires for him. And now that she’s had a taste, she’s not sure she can ever give him up...

My Thoughts:
Lennox has been attracted to Jamie ever since they were kids growing up in the same camp, but she’s the most important person in his life, and he’s never wanted jeopardize their friendship with a romance. He’s seen her through countless boyfriends and hookups, but held back in claiming her.  Jamie being stuck on Rylan chaps his hide, but Lennox doesn’t have the right to voice any complaints.  One drunken night, Lennox steps over the line with Jamie, and that changes everything. He’s worried about the consequences, but can no longer hold back. Once that door was opened there was no going back for either of them.

Jamie wanted Lennox long ago, but he always treated her like a sister so she shut her romantic feelings down, otherwise she’d have a shattered heart.  Years of thinking of him as a friend changes with one night of passion, and Jamie knows she can’t ignore those long buried desires anymore.  The change in the relationship has Lennox going on hyper drive with his protective instincts which causes some bumps in their relationship, but I had little doubt with their history they’d be able to settle in.

I loved Addicted even more than the first book, Claimed.  Unrequited love is one of my favorite types of romance, and the strong bond that Jamie and Lennox shared just made the transition from friends to lovers even hotter!  Jamie and Lennox so obviously loved each other and had such a history that it only took a little nudge to light their connection on fire!

Coupling is not traditional in this post-apocalyptic world Elle Kennedy has created, so multiples are a frequent feature in this series. While this usually makes for some scenes that could light your panties on fire, I often have a hard time believing that the couple with last long term if there more than two people involved, but Ms. Kennedy managed to pull it off beautifully!  Lennox and Jamie’s romance was written in such a way that we got the extra hotness, and yet I didn’t question the integrity of their relationship. Once they were together, no one else factored in.

The Outlaws series is more than romance/erotica. Danger, and suspense are weaved through to make for an addictive, unputdownable read!  The people who choose to live outside the Global Council’s established cities are at risk from their Enforcers, and they do cause a lot of trouble in this installment.  Then there are the bandits who don’t care about anyone, raping, pillaging as they go. It’s a brutal world, and this is why Reese, the ruthless leader of Foxworth, asks Connor to lend some of his men, Lennox, Pike, and Rylan to come train her people in combat, because trouble is a-brewing, and Reese has plans.  Things got intense in Addicted, and I expect the danger will only increase in the next book.

While Jamie and Lennox were the focus of Addicted, Rylan and Reese dance around their attraction through the entire book.  Rylan wants Reese and she doesn’t disguise her hostility towards him.  I can’t wait for their book, Ruled, next!

Review & Giveaway: Midnight Revenge by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: February 2nd 2016 by Signet
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

From the USA Today bestselling author of Midnight Captive, the latest Killer Instincts novel is “off-the-charts-hot”* romantic suspense that takes readers into the heart of an enigmatic mercenary...

Out of all the stone-cold mercenaries in Jim Morgan's black ops organization, Derek “D” Pratt is the most intimidating. He is tight-lipped and covered in tattoos, and even the other guys on his team are afraid to ask him about his past. D’s been off the grid for years, but after his teammate Sullivan is mistakenly captured in his place, D is forced to come out of hiding and face his demons.

When D lands in Mexico, he’s ready to risk everything to save his friend. To complicate matters, Sofia Amaro, a feisty doctor whom D had a one-night stand with months ago, has tracked him down. And in an instant she’s unintentionally caught up in his life-threatening rescue mission.

Now D must extract not one but two people from the most violent world he's ever encountered. And one of them is carrying his child...

My Thoughts:
Well, I can let a breath out and relax now that I’m finished with Midnight Revenge!  I think this is the most suspenseful installment in the series!

Derek Pratt, or “D” as everyone calls him was the toughest character in the team.  Unfeeling and remote is how he came off, although I think there was a little hinting of feeling here and there over the series.  For the most part his past and life has been a mystery, but I just knew something horrific had to happen to shape him.  It was bad!! Sickening bad.  I was wondering if and how Elle Kennedy would crack Derek’s tough outer shell, and truly sell it.  I had my doubts at first, but the how was Sofia.  Elle Kennedy crafted their relationship perfectly, and believably. Sofia didn’t pressure or judge Derek, not that she was without conscience, but she got him, could see through to the man he really was. I liked that the tough-as-nails Derek actually had an awkward, vulnerable side.  Their romance was touching, passionate, and of course, very hot!

I won’t summarize what went down, but I have to say I was on the edge of my seat through most of Midnight Revenge.  It was a nail biter at times, but thankfully, because I’m a real sissy when it comes to torture of any kind, any rough scenes where kept vague and short.  Still, didn’t mean I didn’t anticipate the worst!

I felt so bad for Sully and everything he went through. I totally understand his actions! I would’ve wanted to do the same. What a horrible woman!  I’m wondering if the next book will be Sully and Liam’s romance. Sounds like it’ll be emotional whenever it comes.

The Killer Instincts series is a must for any romantic suspense/action lover who wants not just a thrill ride, but multi-layered characters and relationships. While there are a lot of thrills, Ms. Kennedy does an excellent job balancing character development with an action filled plot so that you actually care what happens to each and every person. I can’t wait for the next one!

Review: Claimed by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: October 6th 2015 by Signet
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

The bestselling author of the Killer Instincts novels “knows how to write scorching sexual tension” (USA Today). Now she really sets it on fire in a new series about men and women living on the edge of violence, sex, and life and death.

After a devastating war decimated most of the world, Hudson Lane has only known the oppressive life under her own father’s tyranny. She finally escapes, branding herself an outlaw and hunted by the Enforcers. Her best chance at survival is Connor Mackenzie, an aggressively sensual fugitive who opens her eyes to the wicked possibilities of a world without rules.

As the leader of a band of outlaw fighters, Connor can’t resist the beautiful stranger who asks for his protection. Despite his reservations, he agrees to introduce her to a whole new way of life. But when Connor discovers Hudson’s connection to the enemies of liberty, he wonders how far he can trust the woman who has abandoned all inhibitions to challenge every forbidden desire.

My Thoughts:
Claimed introduces into a futuristic time where wars have changed the world as we know it. The infrastructure, religion, and a lot of the population are gone. In its place is a new government, the Global Council which is strict and oppressive.  People who don’t want to be subject can leave the cities and become Outlaws.  The outlaying area, which is where Connor and his small band of men survive, sort of reminded me of a modern day Wild West.

Hudson was a prominent member of the inner city, but escaping a forced marriage meant fleeing the only life she ever knew.  While Hudson was trained in combat as an Enforcer, and is a badass on her own, being out of the city is a dangerous place for one lone woman, capable or not.  When Hudson spots Connor and his men, she thinks attaching herself to his group will be her best bet getting away and surviving.   Doesn’t hurt that she’s immediately attracted to Connor who is so very male and gorgeous! Little does she know that Connor is hell bent on exacting revenge on someone very close to her.

Besides surviving as an Outlaw, Connor’s main purpose in life is getting revenge on Dominik, one of the lead Enforcers for the Global Council.  The last thing he wants is more people in his group adding more responsibility and vulnerability, but he’s drawn to Hudson.  Connor doesn’t want to get attached to anyone, but he can’t help the overwhelming attraction and possessiveness she brings out in him.

Claimed was seriously hot! For the most part, the usual societal structure is just gone, so there aren’t the normal moral boundaries in place.  With some of these rules out the window it left Ms. Kennedy the license to make this book very naughty, more on the erotica side than just a romance. Connor and Hudson burned up the pages!  There was an attraction between Rylan and Hudson as well, and Connor didn’t mind allowing him in on their action a few times, but no worries, it’s clear that Hudson and Connor are only serious about each other. I’m usually not into threesomes, it seems like there’s always a third wheel, but somehow this didn’t bother me.  Rylan is sweet, sexy, laid back, and Connor’s best friend, more into any hookup for fun than attachment.

Elle Kennedy writes addictive stories with relatable characters no matter which genre she tackles.  I’ll pick up anything she cares to write, and I can’t wait for the next installment!

Review: Midnight Captive by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: June 2nd 2015 by Signet
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

About the book:

“For those who enjoy their romantic suspense on the dark and steamy side,”* here’s the blisteringly sexy new novel in the Killer Instincts series by the author of Midnight Action and Midnight Pursuits...

Former CIA agent Bailey Jones has spent months trying to forget her night of passion with mercenary Sean Reilly. An elite and methodical assassin, she has no room in her life for a reckless, rule-breaking Irishman, and she’s vowed to steer clear of the tempting bad boy who lured her into his bed under false pretenses.

When Sean is implicated in the robbery of a Dublin bank, Bailey knows something isn’t right. So what if she can’t trust him? There’s no way Sean would end up on the wrong side of the law. In fact, he’s stuck in the middle of a dark and dirty conspiracy that could put his twin brother’s life at risk with one wrong move. And Bailey’s life too when she agrees to help.

As the stakes are raised and Bailey finds herself torn between two brothers, the fine line between danger and desire is crossed…and it’ll take more than a killer instinct to survive.

*New York Times bestselling author Christina Reece
My Thoughts:
Bailey Jones is ticked at Sean Reilly ever since they slept together months ago. Yes, she’s attracted to the irresistible, and incredibly sexy Irish operative, but Bailey doesn’t go for the cocky, dominant sort of male Sean is. Plus, he went to bed with Bailey under the impression she thought he was Oliver, his twin. Bailey actually knew he was Sean, but still. So, yes, she’s still pissed, but that doesn’t stop her from dropping everything to come to Sean’ aid when he’s seemingly involved in a bank robbery.

Sean could care less about IRA politics, but his father’s old gang blackmails him into joining up again by kidnapping and holding his twin brother, Oliver captive.  Oliver is his only family and Sean would do anything for him, so he’s stuck in between a rock and a hard place which is made even more complicated when Bailey barges in insisting on helping.  The last thing he wants is for Bailey to be in danger, too. He cares for Bailey and has been hung up on her for years, but he feels like he ruined everything with their oh-so-hot, but disastrous night together.  He can’t get her off his mind, but doesn’t want her anywhere near the thugs Sean’s got to deal with now.  But Bailey isn’t a defenseless woman, and she needs Sean to realize she can take care of herself and be an asset.

I loved Midnight Captive! As usual the story was nothing but excitement, danger and twists. Of course the smoking hot romance was a big part of why this story will send you pulse racing! Hot, hot, hot!!  Sean and Bailey’s romance was full of pent up longing and hurt on both sides, but there was no mistaking these two were meant for each other.  No one else could push each other’s buttons like they did, and when Sean and Bailey were in a room together there was no mistaking the uptake in heat and sexual tension.  I can’t stand love triangles, so I was a little worried that there would be one with Oliver, Sean, and Bailey.  I was relieved to that wasn’t so. No love triangle.

I appreciate that Elle Kennedy makes her women just as badass as the men whether it’s fighting or covert operations, they’re all a force to reckoned with!   Both Noelle and Jim’s crew (which are all comingled now that the two are married, yay!) are loyal to the core. When one’s in trouble the others rally and rush to aid. And so not only does Bailey come to Sean and Ollie’s aid, a good portion of the crew come as well.

I’m sad to have finished Midnight Captive because now my series binge read has come to an end, and I have to wait until February for the next Killer Instincts novel! While Sean and Bailey have a nice, very satisfying ending there are other romances in the works.  It looks like we finally get Derek’s story next in Midnight Revenge, but Liam and Sullivan’s has been brewing through Midnight Action and Midnight Captive.  I’m wondering if their romance will be resolved in the next book or if they’ll get their own story?  There were also seeds planted for Cate (Morgan’s daughter) and Ash, the new rookie of the team.  I’ll say a prayer for Ash because anyone brave enough to go after Jim Morgan’s daughter will need it, lol!

Review & Giveaway: Midnight Pursuits by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: April 1st 2014 by Signet
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

Her job is to stay hidden.
Too bad he can’t take his eyes off her.

Soldier-for-hire Ethan Hayes is the youngest member of an elite mercenary team. While he may be affectionately nicknamed the rookie, the skills Ethan honed as a Marine make him seriously dangerous. But when a sudden distress call puts him in close quarters with a rival, he finds more than his field skills being put to the test.

Juliet Mason stands out as the master thief in a covert group of assassins and spies. Her latest mission is personal—and it’s gone horribly wrong. Juliet may prefer to work alone, but when the rookie comes to her aid in snowy Eastern Europe, she can’t deny they make a good team. But even up against a powerful enemy, their most challenging task yet may be fighting the passion between them...

My Thoughts:
As you’ve probably realized by now I’ve been enjoying the Killer Instincts series by Elle Kennedy.  We get Ethan and Juliet’s romance in Midnight Pursuits.

Ethan is the “rookie” of the team, the youngest at only twenty-five, and the picture of a gentleman. While staying at Isabel and Trevor’s house in Vermont, as they’re off on their honeymoon, he gets a call meant for Isabel from Juliet and she’s in trouble. Juliet is almost incoherent and injured so Ethan drops everything and flies out to her aid.

When Isabel gets a call from a hospital in Minsk that her brother, Henry is in critical condition, she hops immediately on a plane.  Henry is her only family, and she’d do anything for him.  When she finds out his fiancée was murdered in a professional way, Juliet takes it upon herself to track down the killer and exact vengeance.

To be honest I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy Ethan and Juliet’s romance as much as the others. They were snipping and snapping at each other in the last book, Midnight Games, so there was palpable tension between them, but Juliet seemed so bristly and aggressive; I didn’t know if Ethan would be a strong enough personality for her.  No worries, Elle Kennedy showed another side to sweet, gentlemanly, Ethan, one that matched up to Juliet’s perfectly. We got a take-charge and alpha sort of Ethan, mixed in with the good-guy he is, and I loved seeing this side to him:

"I mean it, sweetheart. You're not walking away from me. Not until we finish what we've started. And even then, I still won't let you go."
"How very caveman of you."
"Don't care. You're not going anywhere, Jules."

One thing I love about romantic suspense is the lack of much angsty relationship drama. Ethan and Juliet are too busy dodging bullets or trying to escape the enemy to be vacillating over their feelings.  Important things become very clear, quickly, when you’re faced with life or death.

Midnight Pursuits was another win for me and any fan of romantic suspense loaded with action and danger will definitely enjoy Elle Kennedy’s addictive and fun series!

Review: Midnight Games by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: August 6th 2013 by Signet
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

She wears a thousand deadly identities. He sees through them all.

A master of disguise, Isabel Roma spends her life pretending to be other women. Normally, her emotions are reined in tight—but sexy mercenary Trevor Callaghan has a knack for getting under her skin. The elite operative’s quiet strength and raw magnetism affect her in ways she’s never felt before, a distraction that can quickly turn deadly in their dangerous line of work.

After putting his tragic past behind him, Trevor is ready to focus on his future—and he damn well intends for Isabel to be in it. When their entire operation is thrown into chaos, Trevor enlists Isabel’s talent for deception. And as they attempt to save their team in a world where the stakes are high and the danger is grave, Trevor must convince Isabel that the woman beneath all the disguises is the one worth having...
My Thoughts:
In Midnight Games we finally get Trevor and Isabel’s romance which has been brewing since the first book in the Killer Instincts series.  They first met when Jim’s crew of mercenaries and Noelle’s assassins banded together for a mission.

At the time Trevor is still a shell of the man he used to be, still grieving over the death of his fiancée, Gina.  Isabel and Trevor had to pose as a newlywed couple, totally in love and over-the-top affectionate, and Trevor is surprised to feel an attraction to Isabel, thinking he’d never feel those feelings again. It’s an unhappy discovery, one that unsettles him and fills him with guilt. Isabel feels terrible for Trevor, a man whose zest for life seems to have been extinguished, but she does feel glimpses of heat and passion beyond their disguise.  When they part ways, it’s not a happy situation because Trevor is not in a good mind space and behaves like an ass.

They’re paired together again in the next book, and Trevor’s feelings have changed significantly.  Even though he’ll never forget his departed fiancée, he’s found the desire to live and be happy again, and he’d like to do that with Isabel at his side. Unfortunately, Isabel leaves him high and dry at her apartment and disappears without a word.

Trevor and Isabel have had stops and starts to their romance, but in Midnight Games, Trevor is determined to track Isabel down and get serious.  She’s the one and only woman he can’t stop thinking about. But these two will have to sort out their relationship in between dodging attempts on their life when Morgan’s compound is attacked and Morgan himself goes missing.

Isabel and Trevor’s romance light up the pages and make for a super hot read! There’s a history between this couple and I loved witnessing all the tender moments exchanged.  They’ve let each other in and got close in a way no other has in the past, so I was seriously excited for them to finally come together!  I have to say, it was worth the wait. Trevor and Isabel’s romance ties with Jim and Noelle’s (Midnight Action book 5), as my favorites so far.

Midnight Games will keep you on the edge of your seat with all the twists, action, and danger at every turn.   Fans of romantic suspense will gobble up Elle Kennedy’s addictive and thrilling Killer Instincts series!  On that note, I’m off to read the next book, Killer Pursuits, Ethan and Juliet’s romance.

Review: Midnight Alias by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: February 5th 2013 by Signet
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

About the book:

She’s smart, seductive, and in way over her head.
He’s her only way out.

An undercover DEA agent has gone off the radar. Suspecting an internal mole, the government needs Luke Dubois and his elite team of operatives to recover their man, and the New Orleans native thinks he’s found his way inside the dark underbelly of Manhattan: Olivia Taylor, the girlfriend of a mob boss and the sexiest woman he’s ever laid eyes on. His new mission objective? Get past Olivia’s defenses and convince her to take a chance—on him.

All Olivia wanted was to finish law school and live a normal life, but that dream was shattered when one dangerous night put her deeply in a mobster’s debt. Now Luke and his team will help her escape—in exchange for intel on the missing agent. But Olivia doesn’t anticipate her intense attraction to the reckless Louisiana charmer or that she’ll be forced to risk everything—including her heart.

My Thoughts:
Midnight Alias continues the story of Jim Morgan’s mercenary crew and Noelle’s chameleon assassins teamed up again in another thrilling mission. We get Luke’s romance this time and who’d have thought the sexy, charming ladies man would fall so head over heels for a woman so quickly, but Olivia drew him in like a moth to a flame.

Olivia went to work as a dancer/stripper when her mother got sick with cancer and her work at a restaurant wasn’t paying the bills. Angelo, the club’s owner and unknown to Olivia, mob guy, zeroed in on her when she started working, but she was always able to fend off his advances. Unfortunately, the situation turned from bad to worse since Angelo took advantage of a situation and now has Olivia under his thumb. She became his “girlfriend”, more from him saying it was so, and now has to think of ways to keep him at bay and not sleep with him. Olivia’s is hemmed in a suffocating position closing in all around her. But she’s is biding her time, saving her money to make her escape. She gets more than a chance to escape when Luke crashes into her life and into her heart.

Luke, the sexy Cajun operative in Jim Morgan’s band of mercenary soldiers is part of the unit assigned by the DEA to track down their undercover agent gone missing at Angelo’s club.  The club is partially a front to launder money for the mob in their drug dealing business, and unknown to Olivia, Angelo is an integral part of the operation. When Luke meets Olivia as “Livy Lovelace” her nervous fear sends up red flags and also a potential in with Angelo and the inter-workings of the club, but Luke sees Olivia as more than just an asset to their case.  He’s taken with her the first moment he lays eyes on her and as he gets to know her, the attraction burns even brighter.

Midnight Alias is my third book in the Killer Instincts series by Elle Kennedy while it was my least favorite of the series so far, it still was an action packed, enjoyable read.  I think the situation with Angelo, the current villain creeped me out and was a bit unbelievable.  I mean, what mob boss would allow his girlfriend, a stripper, put him off and delay sex for more than six months? At any rate, Luke and Olivia’s romance was hot even if a little sudden.  I have to say Trevor and Olivia’s chapters caught my attention more than the main couple’s romance and I was a bit crushed by the ending.  No worries, though, I just finished the next book, Midnight Games, Trevor and Isabel’s story, and it did not disappoint!  It’s my favorite of the series so far.  Maybe tied to Midnight Action (my review), Noelle and Jim’s story, but more on that to come soon.

If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, the Killer Instincts series is not to be missed.  Elle Kennedy is a pro at sucking you into a story and making it impossible to put down. Danger, excitement, suspense along with a wickedly hot romance is the standard for this series.

Review: Midnight Rescue by Elle Kennedy

Publication Date: May 1st 2012 by Signet Eclipse
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Dangerous. Ruthless. Savage. And she's the good guy.

Abby Sinclair had a desperate childhood until she was rescued and adopted by a retired army ranger who molded her into a master of self-defense. Now, she's a cunning and fearless assassin thrust into assignment after dangerous assignment, using everything she has-nerve, resilience, strength, sex-to come out on top. Her only rule: trust no one.
Abby's latest assignment is in Columbia: go undercover and snuff out a dangerous arms dealer active in the underground sex trade. But when Abby purposely blows her cover in a last-ditch attempt to free the helpless victims, deadly mercenary Kane Woodland is recruited as back-up. His mission: get Abby out of that hell hole.

The last thing Kane expects is to feel a primal attraction for Abby. But when she convinces him to join her on her perilous mission, their newfound passion could put the lives of their whole team at risk.
My Thoughts:
You probably recognize Elle Kennedy’s name from her hit New Adult books, The Deal and The Mistake, but she’s also the writer of fabulous romantic suspense novels.  I read Midnight Action (book 5) and really enjoyed it so I jumped at the chance to start this action packed series from the beginning!  Midnight Rescue was full of suspense, danger, and of course, a sexy romance.

Abby is one of Noelle’s Chameleons, elite female assassins/operatives, and Abby is one of the best.  As a teenager she was rescued from a horrific situation by an army ranger who then adopted Abby and trained her to take care of herself in every deadly way imaginable. Abby’s put those skills to use working for Noelle. I do so love a lethal woman, only when she’s killing bad guys, of course!  On assignment Abby comes across a group of girls held captive and set to be auctioned off as sex slaves.  The only way to gain access to their location is to blow her cover, and allow herself to be captured.

When Noelle realizes Abby’s been captured she enlists the help of Jim Morgan and his impressive team of mercenaries. As second-in-command to Morgan, Kane takes point and when they rescue a bruised and battered Abby, Kane can’t help the protective urges or the attraction she stirs up in him. It is evident Abby’s tough and guarded, but Kane yearns for her trust and confidence. Will she let him in?

While the subject matter of sex slavery trafficking and Abby’s past made parts of this book difficult to read, the majority was thrilling, fast paced, and sexy as heck!  Kane teaches Abby to let someone in and let go, and Abby is the first woman Kane has cared in many years (yes, there is a tragic story there).

What I love about this type of romantic suspense is the fact there’s no languishing in angst or melodrama.  There’s no time when you have much more important things to worry about, like rescuing teenagers from being sold into sexual slavery or possibly getting shot!

Midnight Rescue had a thrilling end with some loose romantic ends left open for Trevor and Isabel, but I have to wait until book three for their romance!  Dang it.  Luke, the sexy Cajun better deliver is all I have to say because his romance is next.

Review: The Deal (Off-Campus #1) by Elle Kennedy

The Deal (Off-Campus #1) by Elle Kennedy
Published February 24th 2015
She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy...

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice... even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

...and it’s going to be oh so good.

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn't take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn't going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

My Thoughts
Great story!!!

It's been a while since I've jumped into a New Adult book that centers on college life. I feel that genre and theme have played itself out over a year ago. However, I kept seeing great ratings for The Deal by Elle Kennedy, so I thought… why not.

So glad I caved to my instincts and tried out this novel that many have raved about. The book was absolutely perfect for my current mood!

Garrett Graham has everything going for him. He’s the captain of his college hockey team, going to the school of his choice on his dad’s dime and enjoying the attention of the puck bunnies that throw themselves at his feet to up their social status at school. However, when he lands a big fat ‘F’ on his philosophy exam, his hockey playing might be in jeopardy if he doesn't bring his grade up. Garrett isn’t one to let his chances of playing pro hockey slip through his hands, so if he can just convince the class brain to tutor him then he’d be back on track.

Hannah Wells doesn’t have it as easy when it comes to school life. She works to pay for most of her expenses and studies hard to maintain the scholarship that keeps her enrolled at Briar. However, after playing it safe for years because of a tragic event that left her damaged, she realizes she’d like to catch the attention of a football player she’s been crushing on.

When Garrett proposes to help her land her crush’s attention in exchange for some tutoring sessions, they are both in for a rude awakening after an innocent kiss.

The Deal had everything I enjoy in a novel…. A strong willed girl, an adorably arrogant guy, witty dialog, fun nicknames and name calling and a plot that unfolds itself in a way that has me falling for the characters.

Garrett was absolute perfection! I loved his stubbornness and determination to get what he wants. I adored his protectiveness of Hannah and I fell for his antics that proved how far he was willing to go to keep the girl he loves by his side. When his past revealed itself, I quickly learned that as plush as his life looked on the outside, there was definitely a price to what I thought was a free ride.

Hannah Wells was immediately likable with her strong-willed personality. I loved how she handled Garrett’s cocky attitude and gave him a run for his money. In the end, her sacrifices for his well-being proved to me how much she truly cared for him.

Together these two were a perfect pair! Their sparring and carefree ways with each other had me feverishly turning the pages until I stumbled upon the ending too soon. Overall, I loved the college setting, hockey games, and music recitals these two experienced at school. The Deal was exactly what I was looking for, and I finished it all too quickly!

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Midnight Action by Elle Kennedy

As part of my tour stop I have my review, and excerpt and giveaway of the Killer Instinct Series!  So be sure to scroll down to the bottom so you don't miss anything and have a chance to win.

Publication Date: November 4th 2014 by Signet

About the book:

She’s got a broken heart...
and a fully loaded arsenal....

Ex–army ranger Jim Morgan leads a team of elite mercenaries, but eighteen years ago in Paris, he was part of a black ops unit whose mission was to hunt down a rogue operative. In order to trap the criminal, Jim seduced Noelle, the man’s daughter—a ruthless act that cost him the love of his life and turned her into a mortal enemy. Now he can’t trust her, but he still desires her. He also needs her help....

Older, wiser, and unwilling to play the fool again, Noelle runs a group of highly skilled assassins. And she’s just been offered the hit of the century: Eliminate Jim Morgan. History gives them no reason to trust each other, but with their lives in jeopardy at the hands of a common enemy, the lines between love and hate are soon blurred. Now Noelle and Jim must face the past if they want to have a future—let alone a future together.

My Thoughts:
Midnight Action was an exciting second chance romance filled with action, danger, and hurt fueled by an old betrayal!

Noelle was betrayed by Jim Morgan eighteen years ago when he seduced her to get to her father as part of his uncover assignment.  Noelle was crushed, but she picked up the pieces of her life and vowed revenge.  She got it and ever since then Noelle and Jim have been at each other’s throats.  Still, every time they meet it’s a battle to keep their hands off to themselves and not just because they’d like to kill each other.

Noelle, who has since formed an elite company of assassins’, receives an offer you’d think she couldn’t refuse: kill Jim Morgan. Instead of carrying it out she bands with him to find the killer, and finally after all these years they’ll have to work together and face the past, a past that is filled with pain on both sides.  Is it possible they could ever have a future after all they’ve put each other through?

Years ago Noelle was crushed when she found out how Jim used her and when the details were revealed my heart ached for her.  But the situation is different from what she was led to believe.  Still, the betrayal stings fresh because Noelle was so in love with Jim.  As the true events are revealed Noelle and Jim’s relationship becomes very complicated.  It’s a passionate tug of war between these two. As if the revealing of past events wasn’t enough excitement for this story we have the mystery behind who wants to kill Jim supplying danger and action at every turn.

Part of the problem over the years between Jim and Noelle was his refusal to accept responsibility for how things played out.  I wanted to shake him for blaming Noelle, at all!  Really, the revenge that Noelle took was his own fault, but thankfully it’s not long before Jim wakes up and realizes what a complete moron he was.  Once that happens it clears the way for healing to take place in between assassination attempts, that is.  And between HOT, angry hookups, and I do mean HOT!! During these encounters, Jim and Noelle can’t help but let some of their true feelings come through and it helps them let go of the past a little bit at a time.

I adore second chance romances. It makes me sad when a couple loves so intensely and then everything goes tragically wrong.  I long for their HEA!  But it was evident to everyone around that Jim and Noelle had a one of a kind bond and it was only a matter of time before they realized it as well.  I haven’t read the previous stories in this series, but it’s not necessary to enjoy Jim and Noelle’s addictive and moving story!

Midnight Action was full of intriguing secondary characters and the set up for future romances were included as side stories.  I found one very sizzling, indeed!

Excerpt:

Their dance might have seemed innocent to the people around them, but each brush of their bodies heightened her arousal. Each time his palm grazed her tailbone, her skin sizzled. Each time his cheek brushed hers, her breathing grew more labored.
Still, no matter what Jim thought, she was a pro, and thus perfectly capable of suppressing her desire.
Of course, that didn’t mean she had to stop testing his ability to remain professional.
With a mischievous smile, she looked into his eyes and said, “By the way, the shower blow job you mentioned before? I orgasmed the second I swallowed that first drop.”
A strangled growl left his mouth.
And suddenly they weren’t dancing anymore. But still moving. Moving very, very fast, in fact, as Jim dragged her toward the staircase on the other side of the ballroom.
Morgan had no idea where he was going or what he was thinking. He ignored the inquisitive eyes boring into his back as he gripped Noelle’s hand and led her up the spiral staircase. He didn’t know where it led, or where they’d end up— all he knew was that if he didn’t get inside this woman right fucking now, he was going to pass out.
“Jim,” she said uneasily. “This isn’t the time to . . .”
She didn’t finish and he didn’t care. His lower body was aching, his cock so stiff he could barely walk. He was a man on a mission, his gaze focused straight ahead like a missile homing in on a target.
At the top of the stairs was a small landing opening into a wide hallway with half a dozen doors, but the red velvet curtain to their left was what caught his eye. Gripping Noelle’s forearm, he pushed open the thick velvet and immediately liked what he saw— a shadowy space the size of an opera box. No, it was an opera box, Morgan noted when he spotted the curved railing at the edge and the row of plush, red-upholstered seats.
He turned to Noelle. “Come here,” he ordered.
She stayed put. “I don’t take orders from cavemen, thank you very much.”
His gaze swept over her. He’d lied before. He was totally digging the dress. And the hairdo. The shoes. The vixen-red lipstick. Christ, he wanted to kiss those fuck-me lips more than he wanted his next breath.
“Come. Here,” he growled.
“Make me.”
Just like that, his control snapped like a bungee cord. Forget breathing— his brain stopped working right along with his lungs, his vision nothing but a thick haze of lust as he grabbed her by the arm and yanked her toward the railing. He spun her around so she was against it, then moved in behind her and ground his aching groin over her ass.
Noelle’s moan cut the air, soft enough that he doubted anyone down below had heard it. And if they did, he didn’t give a fuck. He’d turned into an animal, a desperate, hungry animal with one thought on his mind.
He scrunched up her dress and shoved the material all the way up to her waist. She was still covered in the front, but naked from the lower back down, and when he glimpsed her bare ass, a groan left his lips.
“Oh Jesus.” He stroked her tight buttocks with his palm, then undid the button of his trousers.
Letting out a ragged breath, he reached inside his boxer-briefs and pulled out his granite-hard cock. With Noelle in front of him, he wasn’t worried about anyone catching a glimpse of the little soldier, but there was nothing shielding her. If anyone in the ballroom so much as craned their neck, they’d get a hell of an eyeful: Noelle bent over the railing, fingers curled over the cool steel, cleavage spilling out of her dress.
Cursing softly, he wrapped his arms around her and drew her backward, repositioning them so they were against the wall, several feet back and out of view of any guests.
The second he rubbed the head of his cock along the crease of her ass cheeks, she gasped in pleasure. “Oh God. Please.”
The quiet plea was enough to make him shudder.
Holding her dress up with one hand, he gripped her hip with the other and drove into her from behind.
Fuuuuuck.
It felt so criminally good he literally saw stars. Heat and moisture surrounded his erection, her inner muscles clamping around him like a hot, pulsing glove. The sexual excitement burning in his blood was stronger than any burst of desire he’d ever felt in his life.
But no, that wasn’t true. He’d experienced this same blast of need before. Earlier today, when he’d been balls deep in Noelle. Nineteen years ago, when he’d been buried inside the most beautiful girl in the world.
It was her. It was always her.
The realization spurred his emotions, propelled his hips forward. He slammed into her, struggling for breath, desperately trying to hold on to his crumbling restraint. But there was nothing controlled about this.
With Noelle, it was impossible to hold back.
His chin rested on her shoulder as his hips pistoned hard, his cock furiously thrusting into her tight channel, over and over again. Her unique scent drugged his senses, and the fine hairs at the nape of her neck tickled his cheek and made him shiver.
A moan slipped out when his next thrust hit deep. “Oh God,” she whispered. “More. Faster.”
The tempo went from fast to frantic, as he relinquished all common sense and gave in to raw, primal need. His balls slapped Noelle’s perfect ass with each demanding stroke, and he knew from her little mewls of pleasure that she was getting close.
When she threw her head back and trembled in orgasm, it was like stepping into a room engulfed in flames. His heart stopped and his body burned, and triumph blinded his vision, because it was so rare to watch this woman come apart. So rare to hear her throaty cry of surrender and see the sated slump of her delicate shoulders.
“Coming,” he ground out. “Oh fuck.”
The hot waves of pleasure started deep in his balls and shot out in every direction, turning his limbs to jelly and his mind to mush. His release filled her, dripped down his still-hard shaft, and even as he tried to catch his breath, he reached into his pocket for a black silk handkerchief and hastily cleaned them up before their clothes got ruined.
The climax had been so intense he still saw black spots, still had trouble breathing. With a hoarse groan, he withdrew from her tight sheath and tucked his semierect cock back in his pants. As he zipped up his trousers, the hem of Noelle’s dress slipped from his fingers, the silky material floating to the floor with a soft rustle.
“How about now?” Her voice shook slightly as she turned to face him. “Out of your system?”
“No,” he said thickly. “You?”
She opened her mouth, but was cut off by a sudden buzz of voices from the ballroom. Frowning, she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and approached the railing.
Morgan followed her, resting both hands on the steel rail as he gazed below.
He immediately pinpointed the source of commotion. A small crowd had formed near the ice sculpture he’d been admiring earlier, and holding court in the center of the group was a man in a black tuxedo jacket and white dress shirt.
“I think our host is here,” he said.
Noelle nodded. “Looks like it.”
They watched from the box, but the new arrival was blocked from their view, surrounded by several taller men who didn’t seem inclined to move out of the way. Morgan glimpsed a head of dark blond hair, an aristocratic profile, and a flash of straight white teeth, but it wasn’t enough.
Annoyance filtered through him. “Let’s go downstairs. I can’t see shit from here.”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the crowd parted to reveal the center of attention. Maurice Durand. The man was in his late sixties. Medium height, fair complexion, handsome face . . . that face.
Morgan couldn’t quite place the man, but he knew him. He wasn’t sure how, but— son of a bitch.
At that moment, Durand turned to speak to someone, offering Morgan a perfect view of his eyes.
He froze, unable to fathom what he was seeing.
Those eyes.
The color of dark roast coffee, deep and intense and completely unsuited for that lily-white skin and light hair.
In his lifetime, Morgan had come across only two people with that particular combination of chocolate eyes and pale skin.
All the air seeped out of his lungs as his brain made the connection.
“Ariana,” he breathed.
