Blog Tour and Review: Burn for Me by Lauren Blakely

Burn for Me by Lauren Blakely
Published June 9, 2014 by Entangled Brazen

About the book:
She’s the one fire he can’t put out…Jamie Lansing has had it bad for firefighter Smith Grayson for as long as they’ve been friends. Yes, he’s ridiculously charming and she might stare a little too long at his abs, but his dirty-talking, rough-around-the-edges ways aren’t for her. Plus, she knows that as a serial dater, Smith isn’t the type to settle down. But then a terrible, fantastic, mind-blowing mistake leaves her body craving more than one night.Smith Grayson has only ever had eyes for one woman in town—his best friend Jamie. But convincing her a relationship between them will work is next to impossible with her refusing to see beyond his past. But when she asks for a week of no-strings-attached sex to get him out of her system, Smith knows this is his one chance to prove he’s not just the man she needs in her bed, but the man she needs in her life.

My Thoughts:
If you're looking for a quick, hot read with a sexy firefighter/construction worker - this one will do the trick!

Jamie and Smith have been friends for years. And while Jamie is a sweet bookworm (I LOVED that about her, of course!), Smith is the complete opposite and known as the guy who changes girlfriends on a regular basis. She values their friendship and tries to hide her attraction to him because she doesn't want to get involved with someone she thinks is a commitment-phobe and who would definitely break her heart.

But then one night they give in to their attraction for each other and now that she's had a piece, she wants the whole pie. But only for a week - because she's still afraid of getting too close and having her heart broken. And Smith wants more than just a no strings week with her - he wants her heart and is determined to prove to her that he's not the same guy she's pegged him for. Ultimately they have to decide if what they have is worth pursing long term or will it end up breaking both of their hearts.

Short and steamy - this book was just what I needed to get out of the book funk I was in last week. I really enjoyed their banter and of course all of the sexy times were fantastic. It didn't feel rushed because they were already friends and the author made me feel like their relationship was well established before they first got 'together'. These two sizzle off the pages and it made for a perfect quick read.

Blog Tour. Review, Cut Scene & Giveaway: Cross & Crown by Abigail Roux

Today on Waves of Fiction I am excited to join in the publisher blog tour for Cross & Crown by Abigail Roux!  Ms. Roux writes one of my all time favorite series and I love helping out with her tours anyway that I can.  For today's stop I have a very special cut scene to share, an amazing giveaway, and my review.  I hope you enjoy!

Cut Scene!
Nick was silent as he looked out on the moonlit fields. They were peaceful now, but it seemed there were echoes of gunfire and cannon blasting, bayonets clashing, men and horses screaming in fear and pain.

“It doesn’t really matter why, or how history writes it down,” Nick said. “The only thing that matters is that every man out there believed in what he was doing. He was standing on this ground, willing to take a bullet fired by his brother, to protect something he thought was worth dying for. That country. That king. That ideal. That land back home. That flag. That man leading him. That man standing beside him.” Nick’s voice filled with emotion and he lowered his head. “The burden of death and bravery in places like this is heavy. I’ve always been able to feel it. Someone should feel it.”

Even if Kelly hadn’t already felt the power of this place, it came through clearly in Nick’s voice. It was holy ground, in its own way, bearing the gravity of the past up in what were now wild green pastures dotted with stone and tourists. The agony of it. The struggle. And Nick believed the same as those men, felt it down to his bones. Call it patriotism. Heroism. Integrity. Honor. That indefinable something that had driven so many men to die for something they felt more important than life also lived inside Nick. It had lived inside their team. And if what he believed in was threatened, he’d do the same as they had done; die defending it.

Kelly’s chest constricted as he looked at Nick’s profile in the moonlight. He had never believed that men like this still existed, not until he’d met Sidewinder.

Nick’s breath billowed in front of him in the cold. His eyes were taking in the battlefield, seeing things Kelly couldn’t see, remembering things Kelly had lived with him. Kelly swallowed hard and set one hand lightly on Nick’s shoulder. He couldn’t think of anything to say, so he didn’t speak at all.

 Cross & Crown (Sidewinder, #2)
Cross & Crown by Abigail Roux
Publisher: Riptide Publishing
Release Date: June 9th, 2014
Purchase: Amazon
When Nick O'Flaherty arrives at the scene of a double homicide to find he has a witness to the crime, he thinks it’s his lucky day. But when he realizes his witness is suffering from amnesia and can’t even remember his own name, Nick wishes he’d gone with his gut and put in for vacation time.

Then Nick’s boyfriend and former Recon teammate, Kelly Abbott, joins him in Boston, and Nick finds his hands a little too full as the case and his personal life collide. The witness he’s dubbed “JD” is being tailed by Julian Cross, a retired CIA hitman. To complicate matters further, JD forms an attachment to Nick that Nick struggles not to respond to as they search for the key to JD’s identity.

Trying to determine whether JD is friend or foe as they investigate the crime puts them on the trail of a much older mystery. When multiple attempts are made on their lives, Nick is forced to turn to old enemies and new allies to solve a centuries-old crime before he and Kelly get added to the history books
My Thoughts:
I beginning to realize that I really need to acquire every book that Abigail Roux has ever written.  I absolutely love this womans writing and characters!  Cross & Crown is another great addition to my favorite shelf!

In Cross & Crown we get another dose of Nick and Kelly.  These two are so different from one another, but they make perfect sense.  Throughout their scenes together I really can see how they work and how they are just meant to be together.  This story with them though was about more than just them discovering their feelings for each other.  In this installment we got to go on an amazing treasure hunting story that I really did enjoy.  We get to see how much of a history nerd Nick and you know what it was kinda hot I gotta say.  I feel like this is a whole new side of him that I really needed to see.  He isn't just a badass with a gun, he has depth behind those muscles.  The story wasn't an easy one to figure out and I did like where it went.  I won't lie though a lot of it went over my head so I wish the history would have been a little watered down, but I found that I could still enjoy the story even with all the history stuff passing me by.  And I can't not mention Julian Cross!  I really have to get my hands on this mans story!  He is all kinds of awesome and I just want to find out more about him!!

Nick and Kelly are hot together.  I wasn't sure how I would like them but I mean come on they can both hold their own in a fight and they are both good with guns what more do you need??  I like how they are really in tune with each other and I really appreciate the back storylines that the author has thrown in.  It is a little strange that they haven't ever had any romantic interaction before but with the back stories we get to see why that line wasn't crossed and we even get to see that feelings were already developing back then.  It is a little weird that this couple is so open with their relationship but I am just chalking that up to reading seven installments with Ty & Zane where things were hidden.  I like that Nick is open and lets everyone see who he loves.

Another note to be aware of is that if you haven't read the eighth book in the Cut & Run series you might want to do that before diving into this one.  I am holding that last book until just the right moment and in doing that I did hit some major spoilers for both couples in this one.  I can say though I am definitely looking forward to reading that eighth book even more now because I think it holds a lot of those unanswered questions that popped up in Shock & Awe.  I want to see what happened when everyone found out about Nick and Kelly and I want to know how they themselves handled the situation. I thought I was getting that in this installment but this one was more about them settling into their relationship and trying to figure out what that next step is for them.  Who moves where, what kinda job should they do that kinda stuff.  It was still good don't get me wrong, but I missed the inbetween stuff.  I like the inbetween stuff.

Is this Ty & Zane no, but Nick & Kelly are very nice filler that will definitely keep me entertained while I wait for the next C&R installment.  We all need great filler inbetween releases and well these two are the best filler ever.  Heart pounding scenes. steamy cut scenes and amazing chemistry is what this book is all about!  I can't wait to see what happens next with these two!!

Review: Baiting the Maid of Honor by Tessa Bailey

Baiting the Maid of Honor by Tessa Bailey
Publication Date: June 9th 2014 by Entangled Brazen
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | iBooks | Kobo

About the book:

A sexy category romance from Entangled’s Brazen imprint…

He’ll own her from the very first touch.

Julie Piper and Reed Lawson have nothing in common. She’s a people-pleasing sorority girl hiding behind her perfect mask. He’s a take-no-prisoners SWAT commander who isolates himself from the world. But when they’re forced together at their friends’ posh destination wedding, one thing is clear—Reed wants Julie more than he wants his next breath. Which is why he’s not about to stand by when she’s dared to seduce another man.

Julie wants neat, tidy sex, so she could get back to what she does best—making everybody else happy. She never expected to slip into a dark bedroom and have her mind blown by rough, demanding hands, and a sinfully filthy mouth—neither of which belong to the best man.

One night should have been all Reed needed to get the blond temptress out of his system, but when one taste is nowhere near enough, he’ll be forced confront the effects of his hellish past. One that may push Julie away forever...just when he realizes he can't live without her.

My Thoughts:
Baiting the Maid of Honor is a story where opposites attract, sparks fly, and sheets ignite!  But more than that, there’s a heartfelt romance at the center.

Julie Piper is a sweet, proper Southern girl spending the next six nights in a Colorado making sure her best friend’s wedding goes off without a hitch.  When she encounters the dark and dangerously handsome Reed her brain tells her to run, but her body is sending entirely different signals. Reed sends her pulses racing with his very naughty, dirty mouth.  Julie’s shocked by his brazenness, but she’s also secretly thrilled.  When her fellow bridesmaids commit to a dare to each pick and seduce one of the groomsmen, Julie picks the best man to seduce thinking this will put any improper thoughts of Reed out of her head.

Julie is far from Reed Lawson’s usual pick.  He doesn’t go for the good girl, cheerleader types, but there’s something simmering beneath Julie’s layers of perfect, and Reed can’t resist. When he overhears her plot to sneak in and seduce another groomsman there’s no way he’s going to allow that to happen.

I love a romance where the couple is powerless to resist the physical and emotional pull they have on each other.  Reed’s determination and relentless pursuit was such wicked fun! Reed is one delicious, bossy, dirty talking man! Julie’s all deer-in-the-headlights at first, but this girl has some spunk in her, too, leading to a sexually charged push and pull between these two!

Julie and Reed were opposites, Julie’s always strived to live up to everyone’s expectations, make everyone happy, and Reed is a guy who for the most part doesn’t care what anyone thinks.  Reed definitely pushed Julie’s buttons and drove her crazy, but he seemed to tap into the Julie underneath it all, the real honest Julie.  Julie had a profound effect on Reed, too.  He’s always kept walls up, and didn’t think he was capable of needing or giving tenderness, until Julie comes into his life.

“You said in the forest, you don’t know who you are with me. I hated it at the time. But the truth is, I don’t know who I am with you, either. I only know I’m so much better. Stronger. Happier.”

These two definitely encounter some bumps in the road trying to figure things out, but I loved their heartfelt, passionate journey!  Tessa Bailey is an expert in creating believable, intense chemistry between her characters which make her novels panty melting HOT! Baiting the Maid of Honor was no exception.

Julie and Reed’s story is part of the Wedding Dare series. Baiting the Maid of Honor is one of four romances happening simultaneously, and my interest was definitely piqued enough to pick up the other stories!

Review: Love, In English by Karina Halle

Love, In English by Karina Halle
Published April 20th 2014 by Metal Blonde Books

He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.
He speaks Spanish. I speak English.
He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.
He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.
He’s married and has a five-year old daughter.
I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.
Until now. Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the f*#king truth.
***
To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.
Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Latino charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.
Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.
Something that can never, ever be.
Or so she thinks.

My Thoughts
He took his hand and ever so slowly, ever so gently, brushed a strand of loose hair from my face, tucking it behind my ears. His fingertips felt like whispers, telling my skin secrets. I closed my eyes at the touch, feeling it travel down my spine, bathing me in starshine.
Wow! Did you feel that??? I sure did!

Intense writing, hypnotic narration and emotionally charged chemistry.

I really enjoy Karina Halle’s story telling. She has a tendency of putting her readers into edgy situations where you know you shouldn’t be condoning what’s happening, but as you fall deeper and deeper into her spell, you become a part of the journey and a complicit bystander in the situation.

Love, In English is no exception.

The characters in this story are a perfect mismatch of flawed individuals that enter into a one month program called Las Palabras that includes 20 Anglos and 20 Spaniards shipped off to a small town in Spain where they interact every day to teach the Spanish participants conversational English. Spending every day with each other creates some deep bonds and long lasting friendships among the group. When the month commences, many of the participants find it difficult to leave their newly created family and reenter their lives after the program.

Vera Miles is a twenty-three year old astronomy student that meets and falls head over heels for the thirty-eight year old, Spanish ex-football player Mateo Casalles. These two experience an immediate attraction and spend the ensuing weeks falling in love. The bump in this situation, however, is not just the age gap, but the fact that Matteo has a wife and child waiting for him back home. When the program comes to an end, Mateo and Vera try and find a way to continue their relationship without leaving a ton of destruction in their path.

Mateo was a perfect combination of unflappable, passionate and dominating. As smooth as this character came across at the beginning of the novel, it was exciting to see him somewhat fall apart after he left the program and was forced to face the aftermath of his choices. I love when dominant male characters show a bit of darkness and twist, and Mateo was no exception. There were certain choices that made me livid(view spoiler), but when he admitted his faults and revealed his vulnerabilities through a good groveling session, I was in ever deeper lust with this character. He really did it for me. Yes, I'm messed up...I know.

I took my time reading this novel, and I have to say I really enjoyed my time with Vera Miles and Mateo Casalles. Their relationship was never simple and straightforward seeing as Mateo was married when these two fell in love during the program. There were so many points in the story where I had no clue how these two would end, and I had to fight off the feeling of skipping to the end for a spoiler. I’m glad I didn’t because the ultimate conclusion was profound!

Overall, Love, In English is an edgy, flawed story in all the right ways. It proves to me how much of a sucker I am for stories with poor choices and flawed characters. Halle did a great job of narrating a different type of novel that was unique and emotional. Definitely a hit in my opinion.
