Sunday Post #23

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

The weather has been beautiful for running so I had no issues getting my runs in.  Still busy at work, which is draining. It seems like there's been a resurgence of the flu and that always makes the hospital busier than normal.  Still, the weekend has been good. We went out to dinner tonight. Wine, conversation and much needed relaxation:

Stone Cold Heart was enjoyable, but not my favorite Laura Griffin.  In Her Sights was a fun start to Katie Ruggle's new series featuring five bounty hunter sisters.  Polaris Rising immediately sucked me in! However, I wouldn't recommend the audio.  I bought the audio and e-copy together thinking this might be a road-trip book, but when I started listening I was disappointed to find the narrator made Ada feel overly dramatic and at times arrogant, which is not how she came across when I was reading the story.  I did not like her performance of Marcus Loch (the hero) at all. Won't be buying the audio for the next book, but I'm really looking forward to the next story!

Received/Purchased/Library Lend:

I gave a happy yelp (at work) when I saw the approval come through for Storm Cursed, the newest Mercy Thompson book. I was losing hope after requesting it a couple of weeks ago and hearing nothing. Yay! I got an audio copy from the library of Watching You.  I hope it's good!  Christi Caldwell is a new-to-me-author, but I was offered the book by the publisher and I thought I'd give it a chance. Has anyone read Christi Caldwell before?  I do love a well-done historical romance!

Watched:

Makes me laugh and of course, Sheldon always steals the show.

    1. It's easy to do that, right? I'm glad I had an e-copy to read so I didn't have to listen to the whole book. I'm looking forward to the next book, but I'll be traditionally reading it. Thanks, you too! :)

    1. It is a great stress relief and a bit addictive! I'm sorry to hear you got the flu! Hope you get over it quickly. TBBT is a lot of whacky fun, you should give it a try. :)

  5. Aaah the importance of a narrator! I am only beginning to listen to audiobooks since three months now and I am very picky on the voice. Also being a non English native they need to speak not too fast or I really have to focus and it's draining. If they speak steadily though it's like my mother language! Go figure ... Happy Sunday!

    1. Yes! You can slow down the speaking speed if they're speaking too fast. I usually have the speed at 1.25 or 1.5x's the normal speed, but English is my first (and only) language. I'm amazed that you speak several languages, Sophie! :)

  9. I hate when a narrator ruins the book for me. I tried to listen to the The Queen of Air and Darkness, and I thought it would be cool because it was read by James Marsters, but when he read it, it came across way more melodramatic than when I read it myself. I couldn't deal.

    1. That's exactly what happened with Polaris Rising! She kind of made the main character sound snotty and arrogant, which isn't how she was coming off when I was reading my e-copy. I won't be buying the audios of the coming books.

    1. Thanks Sophia! I was glad to be at home for the weekend for a change. It's easier to get my runs in.

  14. I was so excited about Storm Cursed too! I was starting to wonder if they lost my request as well, it doesn't usually take them so long to approve them. I hope we both love it! I'm so sad about BBT. I will miss that show so much! I'm glad they replay it all the time on TV though, at least we will still have something of it even if they aren't new episodes.

    1. I think because I read so much of the book by e-copy that switching to the audio was a jolt. I don't think the narrator is my cup of tea, but I'm glad to hear it worked for you. I'll be reading the rest of the series and I can't wait! :)

  19. Your dinner looks sooo delicious! (It doesn't help that it's lunchtime and I'm starving. LOL) I really, really enjoyed Watching You. I like Jewell's brand of mystery/suspense anyway and listening to the audio version was a real treat.
