Sunday Post #102

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

Well I'm one book away from finishing my Goodreads challenge! I've read 149 of my 150 goal. I'm getting close to meeting my Audio Book Challenge too. I was shooting for 100 and I'm now at 87. Phew! I was wondering if I was going to make it this year.

In other news, I got the first shot of the Covid vaccine on Thursday and I'll be getting the second the first week in January. I usually don't feel great after the flu shot (I get one every year) and it was a little worse with the Covid vaccine for me. I had other co-workers that also had it and they didn't feel bad at all. Just sore at the injection site.

This is good because our hospital is inundated with Covid patients! We are busting at the seams and they're scrambling for help asking all departments to help wherever and whenever they can as support as runners, answering phones, etc. We canceled all elective surgeries and all outpatient services for the time being because we can not handle any more patients. Not only is every floor full, but so is our ER and the ER waiting room.  Let's hope it settles down soon.

I loved In a Holidaze! More than I thought I would. I got a review copy, but I bought an audio copy and I'm so happy I did, because the narration really enhanced the story! I enjoyed A Minute to Midnight more than the first book and now I'm ready for the third book. I hope the mystery with her sister is solved finally. Dream Chaser was typical Kristen Ashley.

In the spirit of In a Holidaze with a similar concept I thought it'd be fun to re-watch Groundhog Day. It was fun.

How was your week?

  2. I love everything KA but she definitely has a certain style that is unique and sets her apart...hope you liked it.

Sorry to hear you have been so busy with your patients and hope it calms down soon. Yay for the vaccine, we will be getting ours soon I think. Not looking forward to getting sick since I have already had covid but if it gets us closer to normal life I am down for it.

  3. Way to go on your reading goals! And what a relief to have the vaccine (or at least the first round of it). In a Holidaze was a lot of fun. It gave me all the good feels. :)

  4. I really hope that everyone starts getting the vaccine and as soon as it's available, I'll be getting it. Hopefully we can stop the spread of this and so many people won't be dying from this virus anymore. I can only hope.

  5. That is great about the vaccine out in your hospital, but bummer about the overfull craziness. I didn't look closely at Holidaze before but I love the Ground Hog day type books so I guess I really must.

Have a good Christmas week, Rachel!

  7. I'm glad to hear you got a COVID shot. Are protected now somewhat or only once you have had both shots? I'm glad your reading is going well. I wish you a lovely holiday with peace and joy!

    1. Seven days after the first dose gives about 50% protection, after the second dose they say it's somewhere around 95% protection which is amazing. The flu shot doesn't protect near as well.

      Thanks, Anne! You too! :)

  9. Good luck with the vaccine! Hopefully you don't have too much discomfort. It's so nice to see it rolling out, just in time for the holidays. Provide some hope for people hopefully. and that's scary how crowded the hospitals our with cases! Be safe.

I've heard good things about Holidaze, it sounds fun. :)

    Have a merry Christmas!!!

    1. Thank you, Greg! So far so good, but I guess we'll see as time goes on. I'm still a little nervous about the long term effects.

      You too! :)

  10. Sorry your work is so inundated with COVID patients!! I'm glad you got the first part of the vaccine though. Sorry it was a bit rough for you, but I'm glad others didn't notice anything too bad (beyond pain/soreness in the injection site). Thanks for sharing your experience!!!

I have In a Holidaze, so I hope to read that one soon.
