Sunday Post #135

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

It's been beautiful here in Cambria, sunny and warm. My husband and I decided to stay two nights instead of just one. We went wine tasting (outside) and did some hiking by the shore today. There were so many pelicans! They were flying and diving into the sea, and it was entertaining to watch. We also saw a bunch of zebras. They're descended from the ones William Randolph Hearst originally brought up here for his zoo at Hearst Castle and they've multiplied. We're traveling back home tomorrow morning.

Only had time to read two books, Blind Tiger and Uncharted, but I loved both!

I got an e-copy through Kindle Unlimited and added the audio narration. Hopefully I'll be listening soon.

Still working my way through episodes of both.

How was your week?

  1. Such a beautiful pic! Makes me want to be by the seaside! And how cool about the zebras. That would be fun to see. Pelicans are awesome too- I could watch them for hours.

Be well this week and hope you have a great Labor Day!

    1. Thank you Greg! We're fortunate that we live relatively close (about a 3 hour drive) so we visit often, but I've never seen the Pelicans like this! I can't remember the last time we've been in September, though, so maybe it's the time of year.

Hope you have a wonderful Labor Day too! I'm about to get dressed and go into work for a "stat".

  2. Ooo it looks beautiful on your trip to Cambria! I am glad you enjoyed your time away and still managed to read two books. With my return to this week, I didn't manage to read a lot!

    1. Yes, I know! William Randolph Hearst had them brought up to the Hearst Castle as part of his zoo. Very extravagant. Thankfully they have a lot of protected land to roam about on now.

  10. I'm glad you're having a lovely vacation trip. That's fun about the zebras. I haven't been to Hearst Castle since I was a kid and only vaguely remember it and the area. Yay for some good reads. Chicago Med just hit my radar recently.

    Have a great week, Rachel!

    1. It's been a while since I've visited the Castle even though we visit Cambria once or twice a year. We couldn't go even if we wanted to right now because of Covid.

    1. Yeah, Chicago Med took a bit for us to get into, and not that it's groundbreaking TV or anything. It's captured our attention now though.

  13. This is probably a ridiculous question, but are the zebras running wild or are they on a ranch or something? lol

    1. They are running wild on 82,000 acres of Hearst Ranch property. Although, I'm sure they are cared for like the cattle are. It's a working cattle ranch and they supply Whole Foods their grass fed beef. I think they have to supplement water and food for all the animals (?). Especially, with the drought. There are elk up there too.

  14. Your Cambria picture is beautiful. I think it's so hard to visit a place and only stay one night.
