Helena Conway has fallen in love.

Unwillingly. Unwittingly.

But not unprovoked.

Kit Isley is everything she’s not—unstructured, untethered, and not even a little bit careful.

It could all be so beautiful … if he wasn’t dating her best friend.

Helena must defy her heart, do the right thing, and think of others.

Until she doesn’t.

My Thoughts
F*ck Love is the first book I’ve read in over a month, and I couldn’t put it down! It was so f*ckin' good that it shattered my reader’s block. Thank GAWD! This story is filled with twisted moments, muggle madness, and all sorts of lovely revelations that I felt like I traveled with Helena from Florida to Washington and everywhere in between in two short sittings. Every emotion, every fall, every painful moment was so clearly exposed that I felt absolutely vested in the story.

In F*ck Love, Helena Conway has a vivid dream about her best friend’s boyfriend.  In that dream, Kit and Helena are married, have a child, and are madly in love. However, this can’t be farther from the truth than her current reality, where she’s in a relationship and hasn’t noticed Kit in the six months he’s been dating Della.

However, with a dream that feels so real, Helena can’t help but look for ways to make it her reality. She begins to make small changes in her life that parallel her dream, including taking art classes, acquiring a taste for wine, and unwillingly crushing on the one guy she should stay far away from.

When her feelings for Kit become too much and her friendship with Della becomes strained, Helena does what she know best, which is to run away and leave Florida for the farthest point northwest. For reasons unknown, Helena heads to Kit’s hometown of Port Townsend, Washington and takes up residence with his ex-girlfriend Greer! I kid  you not! But don’t worry. There’s nothing stalkerish to fret about. How can Helena be creepy when she has so many loveable quirks, awkward moments and clumsy tendencies?  Helena loves Harry Potter, manages to trip on anything in her path, and speaks her mind despite how off-the-wall it seems.  Undeniably, Kit notices all of Helena's oddities and they begin to develop feelings for one another.

There was so much I enjoyed about this story. Setting aside the lusting after your best friend's boyfriend, I was able to connect with the meaning of the story, which is about searching for your truth. Finding your perspective and embracing your ultimate reality.

“Who wants to hide from the truth? Maybe people who have had too much of it. Or people who have had too little. Or people who are too shallow to appreciate its hard edges. #TRUTH”

I also appreciated Fisher’s message about the difficulties of love. Where most people believe love should be easy and effortless, it’s really not. It comes with twists and turns, hurts and healings, as well as wins and losses.

"Embrace the lows so that you can more effectively enjoy the highs. Love the fight. Love it so much, and let it save you when your emotional muscles have become soft."

Every now and again, we catch Fisher’s inner geek through her Harry Potter references. I loved those moments! Being an avid fan that has placed herself in the house of Ravenclaw, I appreciated all the magical and muggle references!

"Fuck fear, and fuck Kit, and fuck love. I don’t need any of that muggle shit."

There was quite a bit of this story that reminded me of the Love Me with Lies series, and I attribute it to Tarryn Fisher reverting to her natural form of story-telling… a story that is her #TRUTH. Fisher has a way of taking you on an emotional journey where as a reader you reluctantly surrender your senses and allow yourself to experience the awkward moments, painful revelations and hard-earned endings of the characters you can't help falling for. I was hooked and I couldn’t pick a better novel to start off my reading journey for 2016. Thanks Tarryn Fisher for an emotional, awkward and twisted tale of love. I needed that…

Chapter One Excerpt
 #wtf
“You are supposed to be with me.”

What words are these? They startle me, and at first I think I’ve heard him wrong. He’s leaning across the table while our significant others are twenty feet away, waiting in line for our food.

“You and me,” he says. “Not us and them.”

I blink at him before I realize he’s making a joke. I laugh and go back to looking at my magazine. Actually, it’s not really a magazine. It’s a math journal, because I’m super cool like that.

“Helena…” I don’t look up right away. I’m afraid to. If I look up and see that he’s not joking, everything will change.

“Helena.” He reaches out and touches my hand. I jump, pull back. My chair makes a horrid scraping sound, and Neil looks over. I pretend that I dropped something and reach under the table. Under the table are our shoes and legs. There is a blue crayon lying at my feet; I pick it up and resurface. Neil is at the front of the line ordering our food, and my best friend’s boyfriend is waiting for my response, his eyes heavy with burden.

“Are you drunk?” I hiss. “What the fuck?”

“No,” he says. Though he doesn’t look so sure. For the first time, I notice the scruff on his face. The skin around his eyes is sallow. He’s going through something, maybe? Life is being bullshit.
“If this is a joke, you’re making me really uncomfortable,” I tell him. “Della is right there. What the hell is wrong with you?”

“I only have ten minutes, Helena.” His eyes move to the blue crayon, which is resting between our hands.

“Ten minutes for what? You’re sweating,” I say. “Did you take something, are you on the crack?” What type of drugs make you sweat like that? Crack? Heroine?

I want Neil and Della to come back. I want everything to go back to normal. I spin around to see where they are.

“Helena…”

“Stop saying my name like that.” My voice shakes. I make to stand up, but he grabs the crayon, then my hand.

“I don’t have much time. Let me show you.”

He’s sitting very still, but his eyes remind me of a cornered animal: frightened, panicked, bright. I’ve never seen that look on his face, but since Della’s only been dating him for a few months, it’s a moot point. I don’t really know this guy. He could be a druggie for all I know. He turns my hand over so it’s palm up, and I let him. I don’t know why, but I do.

He places the crayon in my palm and closes my fist around it.

“You have to say it out loud,” he says. “Show me, Kit.”

“Say it, Helena. Please. I’m afraid of what will happen if you don’t.”

Because he looks so afraid, I say it.

“Show me, Kit.” And then, “Should I know what this is?”

“No one should,” he says. And then everything goes black.

Blog Tour & Review: Game of Love by Melissa Foster

Game of Love by Melissa Foster (Goodreads Author)
Published February 17th 2014
Purchase Links: Amazon  |  Barnes & Noble

Ellie Parker is a master at building walls around her heart. In the twenty-five years she’s been alive, Dex Remington has been the only person who has always believed in her and been there for her. But four years earlier she came to Dex seeking comfort, and then disappeared like a thief in the night, leaving him a broken man.

Dex Remington is one of the top PC game developers in the U.S. He’s handsome, smart, and numb. So damn numb that he’s not sure he’ll ever find a reason to feel again.

A chance encounter sparks intense desires in Ellie and Dex. Desires that make her want to run—and make him want to feel. A combination of lust and fear leads these young lovers down a dangerous path. Is it possible to cross a burned bridge or are they destined to be apart forever?

My Thoughts
Ellie Parker has grown up in the “system” since she was five years old. Being bounced around from foster home to foster home and guarding herself from difficult memories has conditioned her to tread carefully with relationships and know when to run. However Dex Remington has been her friend since grade school and together they’ve depended on each other when life delivered some tough blows.

Now that they’ve grown, Dex has made his millions in the gaming industry and Ellie finds herself back in New York looking for a teaching job.

The last time they saw each other was four years ago when Dex declared his love to her, and she ran away as fast as the wind could take her. Even now, Dex can’t deny how much he loves Ellie, but he struggles to trust her ability to stay when life unsettles her. Ellie is fully aware that her life is chaotic and messy, and the last thing she wants to do is drag Dex down.

However, their friendship and attraction is stronger than ever before and when they both find each other after years of separation, they struggle to find a middle ground where trust, passion and true love find a way to keep them together.

Overall, I really liked the storyline and pacing of Game of Love. The story took off with little to no lag and despite the constant reminders of how these two fell apart four years prior, Melissa Foster did a good job of building momentum and chemistry into her story.

I really liked Dex from the beginning. His openness and honesty was refreshing. I had to give it to him because he definitely showed a ton of patience when dealing with Ellie’s issues. Overall, I also came to care for Ellie quite a bit. She had her reasons for guarding herself, and her flight response to many situations was built as a survival technique, so I completely empathized with this character. I liked how these two came together and worked out their issues. Their story felt real and not overly dramatic.

Game of Love is a the perfect story for someone who likes their romance with a small serving of excitement and drama that doesn’t feel overdone or exaggerated. Melissa Foster proves she can make her readers fall for her characters with the right amount of chemistry and passion. Well done!

I sat in my room at our family’s tattoo parlor, Forever Steel staring at the phone. I hadn’t stopped looking at the picture of this crazy, quirky, insanely beautiful blonde haired blue eyed siren that invaded the Jersey Shore a month ago.

Carly Smythe was not my type at all. She was a twenty year old student at Stanford University in California, smart as hell, and funny. The shit kicker was she was so awkwardly unaware of what any man with pulse could see, and that was that she was a damn heartbreaker with a body that made me hard the very first time I saw her.

She made me crazy, she snuck out to see me, and then avoided any sexual advances I made on her, until I finally kissed her, and I didn’t wait for an invitation either: I took those pouty little lips and made them mine.

Carly was also an avid reader of those books, you know “Mommy Porn.” So my game had to be stepped up. Who the hell am I kidding? She could see through my game immediately, and it didn’t have the same effect it did on every other girl I hooked up with. And she didn’t go running for the hills, either. I fell hard… and fast.

Abe (her cousin) knew all the shit that had gone down in my life for the past five and a half years and in order to make this work, which I wanted it to… I needed to set the record straight, put it all on the line, give her the 411, and let her decide if after everything, she still wanted to give it up to a guy like me. A tattooed, pierced, f-up, with a past that was sure to send any girl into a tail spin. She was not any girl, she was…different.

My Thoughts:
Quite entertaining with a dash of sexy!

Jase (Men of Steel #1) by M.J. Fields was exactly what I was looking for when I was searching for an entertaining love story that was filled with an ample amount of drama. Despite catching a few pacing and flow issues, I had a really good time reading this book!

In this series premier of the Men of Steel series, we meet the first Steel brother, Jase. He works in the family business that specializes in tattoos and piecings, and for the past few years has been living his life on the edge. During a summer beach party, his best friend Abe brings along his cousin, and Carly catches Jase’s eye immediately. However, when she notices that Jase is in a rocky relationship with a jealous hothead, Carly stays away despite Jase’s mild flirting. After breaking up with Pam, Jase takes a chance at catching… and keeping Carly’s attention, but their volatile summer fling is put on hold when she heads back to the west coast for collage.

Throughout their on-again-off-again relationship, they hit their fair share of obstacles and misunderstandings that makes it impossible for them to enjoy one another for any stretch of time. After finishing college, Carly is offered a job in New Jersey where Jase lives, but any hopes of being with him are long gone. What was supposed to be the research assignment of a life-time ends up being more than she ever bargained for.

As you can tell, I’m keeping quite a few of the details in the shadows, but suffice it to say, Jase and Carly are one hot mess! Throughout Carly’s college years, she and Jase try unsuccessfully to have a long distance relationship. It was hard to see Carly struggle with certain emotional moments only to have Jase create added turmoil in her life. I think the issue I had with them as a couple was that I never really felt they made a good pair. Jase did his growing up behind the scenes because we got very few perspective chapters from him. Carly went through a significant amount of tough times while in college and having Jase drive her batty didn’t feel right for me.

The strangest part to this whole equation was that I really like both characters individually, but not as a pair. So I believe I might enjoy reading their novella , as well as the other books in the series to get snippets of these two in order to convince myself that they work well together.

As far as the writing goes, there were evident issues with the pacing and flow. That was clear when I would read certain excerpts and feel like I might have missed a paragraph or two. I’d lose track of characters and find myself lost for a few paragraphs. However, strangely enough I still enjoyed this story immensely. I laughed at a few scenes here and there. Some of which I’m not quite sure were intended to be funny. I got frustrated with the characters in a way that wasn’t close to be annoying.

Overall, I enjoyed this books despite the less than flawless execution. As I said before, I look forward to reading more about the Steel brothers in the other installments. Bring it on!

About the Author:
I am very new self published writer, and had no clue what I was getting into, still don’t—but I like it!

My imagination became apparent at age three. Sigma was my very first (imaginary) boyfriend. He lived about fifteen miles from my family’s farm. I took him chicken noodle soup every night on one of our snowmobiles, regardless of the season. Apparently he was very ill and “Thank God” I was able to care for him.

At eight my love for writing blossomed. My cousins and I (of course I was the president) wrote a newsletter and sold it to our family members.

Years later I decided to put it back into print to entertain my cousin on an aircraft carrier on 9/11 and very far away from home during a scary time for our country, (protecting our butts).

Fast forward to 2012. I read 50 shades and thought, I wanna do that!

I have two complete series The Love Series, and Wrapped and two new series Burning Souls and Men of Steel. Thirteen books in sixteen months. CrAzY and wonderful.

I love love! (I would love to reference a Pink song here but I will save my inappropriateness for my books.

I enjoy watching people grow and change with self realization and moments of clarity that sneak up behind you and smack you in the head. I love people and have always been able to see both sides of a story. Each person that comes into our life leaves us with something it is what we choose to do with it that helps us grow.

I live in central New York in the middle of nowhere and am surrounded by family and friend. I ran a small business out of my home and have recently closed my door to pursue this dream full time. I spend time writing and doing the typical Mommy things. Our house is full of pets, friends, and noise ninety percent of the time. I would have it no other way.

I love people, music, laughter, hugs, books, and talking about books.

I’m very excited to share that I have recently signed and am now represented by with Marissa Corvisiero.

About the book
Addison Snow is your typical teenager. She has a family that loves her, friends that make her laugh, and she's wrapped up in the excitement of graduating high school and going off to college to pursue her dream of becoming an author. When her mother, who also happens to be Addison's best friend, dies unexpectedly, her world comes to a crashing halt.
Death changes everyone...

To make the pain go away, Addison and her father travel down separate, dark paths. She chooses to end her grief forever, while he drowns his sorrows in the bottom of a bottle. How do you learn to live again when the most important person in your life is gone?

Addison struggles to pick up the pieces of her life. Instead of getting back to being the carefree teenager she once was, she's stuck handling all of the responsibilities that should have been her father's. She has no time to grieve, no time for emotions, and no time for happiness...until Zander Reinhardt walks in. All it takes is one little handwritten note on a napkin to kickstart her back to life and help her realize that maybe there's more to that life than pain.

But can it really be that simple? Can she really trust this man who makes her feel alive again for the first time in a year?

Addison and Zander both have secrets they aren't ready to share. When the truth finally comes out, is it enough to tear them apart or has something bigger than themselves always been watching over them, pushing them together, making sure they both get their happily ever after?

My Thoughts
Around every corner is a possibility: a possibility of hope, of friendship, of support.

Love. Love. Love.

Tara Sivec has made me laugh, fall in love with fictional people, and now bring me to the verge of tears with her newest novel Watch Over Me. I’ve read every single Sivec novel, and I’ve come to one resounding conclusion… when I open her books I have no clue what I’m in for, but I can always count on the fact that I’m going to enjoy the journey she has in store for me. Awesome writer, story teller and comedian that has managed to land top spot on my list of favorite authors. Again I say… Love.Love.Love!!

Addison has learned at that young age of nineteen the pain and despair of losing a parent. When her mother was diagnosed with Leukemia, Addison fought alongside her mom every step of the way believing she’d overcome the disease. Unfortunately, her mom lost her battle to cancer and Addison lost her faith in life. Struggling to keep the family business going while her father constantly fails at overcoming his substance addiction, Addison begins her own battle against depression, anger, sadness and pain.

When Zander comes into her life, he begins to comfort Addison and help her heal in a way that medication or therapy would never be able to achieve. Most of all he helps her realize that she’s not broken, that no matter her issues and pain, they won’t break her. All of that comes to a crashing halt when his secret is revealed and Addison loses perspective once again.

First off, I have to say that I adored Zander. He’s the quintessential perfect guy that can do no wrong, until he makes an honest mistake that is. :( But I rooted for him the entire time, and I enjoyed his napkin messages to Addison, as well as his way of handling her resistance to exploring a possible relationship. He made her laugh despite her reluctance to smile, he made her feel that life was worth living when all she wanted to do was give up, but most importantly he helped her realize that she couldn't or shouldn't do it alone. Great character that won me over instantly!

“Did you just call me Napkin Guy?” [Zander] asks with a laugh. “My name’s actually Zander. And Stalkers Anonymous is on the fourth floor, and they only meet on days when the person they’re stalking is busy or when Creepers Consortium is cancelled.”

In addition, I have to mention what a great job Sivec did in crafting a character that had passed away prior to the onset of the novel. To get such a vivid sense of Addison’s mom through perfectly plotted flashbacks, I can only imagine the hurt Addison was suffering from losing such a wonderful woman. The Facebook messages really moved me, and the Dr. Thompson moments were all executed to precision to bring clarity and emotion to the situation.

Addison's friend Meg was a perfect addition to novel. I really came to care for her and I hope one day Sivec explores this character a bit more. I would love to read more about Meg. InWatch Over Me, she symbolized the importance of friendship and having a shoulder to cry on. Despite struggling against her own demons, Meg was a perfect friend and beautiful character. I adored her and I hope she gets her own stage someday.

Overall, I can’t say enough how much I enjoy Sivec’s novels. She has so many different layers to her writing skills that she leaves me awe-struck every time I come across a new novel of hers. To be able to craft stories that make people laugh, have them sitting edge of their seats, or simply reaching for a tissue proves that her pen is filled with limitless magic. Perfectly done!
