My Thoughts:

ATF Agent, Brett Tanner is called into investigate a suspicious fire and runs into Gemma Scott, with the National Insurance Crime Bureau, also working the case. Brett and Gemma think that the fire is connected to a string of prior fires and reluctantly team up, pooling sources to solve the mystery and bring the criminals to justice.

Brett has personal reasons behind his dogged determination to catch the bad guy(s) and suffers PTSD from his history.

Gemma’s been burned by an ambitious co-worker who stole her past case and claimed it as his own accomplishment. Since then, she’s been wary about taking on any partners, but Brett’s position in the ATF gives her access to parts of the investigation she wouldn’t have otherwise. Also, her gut tells her she can trust Brett. She loved his K-9 partner, Blaze, right away and as they say dogs are the best judge of character. There was an immediate attraction between these two, but they try and keep things professional. Of course, they can resist only for so long. I was rooting for them to solve their case and for them as a couple!

As a fan of well-done police/crime procedurals, I thoroughly enjoyed Burning Justice, even more so with a smart K-9 partner!  I was hooked and eager over every discovery they made that led them closer to the truth and on edge as their investigations put them in danger! The mystery and romance wrap up nicely and I look forward to the next in the series: Ultimate Justice!

My Thoughts:

A new lethal designer drug is on the streets of Denver leading to an outbreak of overdoses. The danger comes into sharp focus for K-9 DEA Agent Decker, “Deck” when his partner is almost killed executing a search warrant. Dr. Tori Sampson makes an impression while saving his partner’s life. Her inside knowledge and access to victims gives Deck an idea that may help lead him and his team to the brains behind the production and distribution of the “Gray Death.”

Dr. Tori Sampson has noted a marked increase of overdoses in her ER but is less than thrilled with Deck’s proposal to work together since the DEA ruined her father’s professional life. However, Tori doesn’t want to lose another patient, so she begrudgingly agrees.

Deck and Tori start out more like enemies with Tori hating anyone representing the DEA, and Deck’s mistrust of doctors over the role they played in his sister’s addiction and overdose. However, a common desire to rid the community of the Gray Death forces them to put aside their prejudices and work together. Respect and admiration grow between them, as well as attraction, which soon becomes impossible to ignore.

I loved the addition of Deck’s K-9 partner, Thor! He was just adorable and so smart! Deck and Thor made such a great team and I was touched by the loyalty between them.

Tough Justice was fast paced, and action packed. I enjoyed seeing Deck and Tori fall hard for each other while trying to hunt down the bad guy. I thought here was just the right amount of chemistry and sizzle balanced with the mystery, suspense and danger. It was easy to figure out the identity of the bad guy but that didn’t detract from the story at all. I like the feeling of my suspicions being validated.

My Thoughts:

Shane Maguire is back in town after ten long years away.  Sinclair was the one that got away, the girl he’s never gotten over, but history is seen a little differently from Sinclair’s point of view.  Shane’s appearance back in her home town shoots a mix of pain, and yearning through her body.  He was gone and never looked back; Sinclair left to pick up the pieces.  Now that he’s back and demanding to get reacquainted, Sinclair resolves to keep him at a distance, not risk her heart, because she’s not sure she could survive the heartbreak a second time.  Shane’s definitely a sweet, sexy, Southern charmer, but she’s not the naïve girl she used to be.

If you love second chance romances then you’ll love this super hot, emotion filled story! Samanthe Beck’s writing made Shane and Sinclair’s lust, longing and hurt come off the pages, straight into my heart! Darn, that woman can write some hot stuff!  I loved their playful banter, the high voltage sexual tension between them!  No matter the barrier Sinclair tries to erect, Shane is the man to make her walls crumble. *sigh*

My Thoughts:

Honor Reclaimed is romantic suspense at its best: thrilling, sexy and fast paced. Seth Harlen’s story was emotional, moving and heartbreaking at times.

Seth is suffering from PTSD after being held captive and tortured as a POW for fifteen months. Nightmares and terrifying memories haunt him and Seth no longer feels human even two years after his ordeal.

“Are you…okay?”

He laughed, but it was a nasty sound.

“I’ll never be okay again.”

He’s discharged from the Marines but has signed on with the private security team, HORNET, as a sniper.  The rest of his team members don’t think he’s ready for a live mission, but the XO continues to support him when Seth isn’t even sure himself.  When Greer Wilde comes to HORNET for help extracting a friend and soldier, Sergeant Zak Hendricks, taken in Afghanistan, Seth must go back to the very place he was captured sending him spiraling into panic. Can he hold it together and not endanger the mission? He hopes so, because no one should be left to suffer the atrocities he did.

Phoebe Leighton used to be a cutthroat photojournalist going for whatever sensational story would up her ratings until her story dragged a Marine’s name through the mud. A man who never deserved the accusations and innuendo she inadvertently brought upon him.  After that Phoebe quit her job, changed her name and went about trying to redeem herself by using her photos and stories to advocate for women’s rights or other worthy stories.  Little does she know that her current project will lead her directly to the very man she wronged, Seth Harlan. 

Seth’s experience was seriously heartbreaking and I have no idea how someone could cope with those memories weighing on them. My heart went out to this brave survivor!  Seth screws up test missions for HORNET, and is so fragile I was worried he’d freeze up in Afghanistan, and it was a huge test for him. It turns out Seth was tougher than he even imagined, and his experience was an invaluable aid to HORNET’s mission to save Zak. Phoebe’s care and compassion went a long way in calming him.  Plus, her presence awakened desires and emotions he thought he’d never have again. 

Nothing could break her, and with that knowledge came a strange sense of peace. There was no way he could damage this woman or corrupt her with his darkness. And maybe…Was it possible the unbreakable had the ability to fix the broken? Christ with the way a simple touch from her lit him up, he almost believed it.

I immediately felt for Phoebe because who hasn’t made mistakes they regret? She didn’t realize the damage her article would cause until it was too late.  Working with Seth and seeing the emotional turmoil he goes through on a daily basis guts Phoebe and she can help but admire his honor and strength.  Seth is completely gorgeous (Tonya's casting pick), all male, hard body with intense blue eyes, so that combined with his beautiful soul makes it impossible for Phoebe not to fall head over heels for him.  She knows that once Seth finds out exactly who she is her heart is destined for one gigantic break. Still, she can’t help the powerful feelings Seth inspires.

The romance was absolutely lovely, a slow burn with a little ache thrown in, and oodles of chemistry, leading to steamy and intense sexy times! But the romance aside, this story was a complete thrill ride, filled with action and nail biting tension!  I was on the edge of my seat and stayed up much later than I planned just to finish.  The pages flew by and I read this in one sitting. If you enjoy romantic suspense Tonya Burrows is a total recommend!

Have you ever had a romance/connection you feel so intensely, and you were sure he felt the same, only to have it crash and burn?  That’s a BIG knife to the heart! Ouch!  And it’s exactly what we have in Tempted by the Soldier.  No worries though, this is a second chance romance.

One year ago, Lily had one of the best nights of her life with Nate only to be humiliated and hurt come morning.  She’d rather have a root canal than spend fifteen hours in a truck with him, but things are really not going her way in this case.  Faced with missing her best friend’s wedding or catching a riding with Nate, she must put aside her feelings, suck it up, and take the trip.  Lily will just have to save her murderous plans for after the wedding!

Nate gave into a brewing attraction with Lily one year ago and the intense feelings she drew out in him made him run. Nate is still reeling from survivor guilt after a horrible helicopter accident, and he doesn’t feel worthy of Lily or entitled to any happiness she might bring.  He re-enlisted in the Marines and is set to go back on duty in just two short weeks, so he knows he must keep his distance in this road trip.  A road trip he knows is sure to stretch his will power and control to the limits.

By now you all know I’m a huge sucker for a second chance romance.  When you’ve had your heart broken by someone that you think is “the one” and then have the chance to make it work again, it’s like a dream come true. 

Lily was so heartbroken by Nate she’s determined to torture him and show him what he passed on a year ago, and I was rooting for her to teach him a lesson, until I had Nate’s side, as misguided as it was.  The verbal sparring back and forth was great fun, and raised the heat between Nate and Lily to scorching levels!  Some of the scenes when they inevitably give in…whoa! HOT with a capital H! 

“What do you want?”

His eyes flickered down to the towel, then he dropped his hand and pushed his way into the bathroom, forcing her backward until her bottom hit the edge of the counter. He braced his hands on either side of her hips, caging her in.  Her breaths kicked up a notch—matching the frantic beating of her heart.

“You,” he growled.

Oh, my…

But there was a tender side to each of them as they discovered each other’s history, bonding them together.

Nicolette Day masterfully blended the tender and emotional with the spice, making this romance a satisfying and touching story.  There is a novella, No Strings Attached, about Lily’s best friend Hayden and Nate’s brother Jace, set before this story and I plan on picking it up. We get a peak at these two and I’d like to see how their romance started.  Both of these stories are only .99 cents on the sites I’ve linked above, a steal of a deal!

Brandie's Thoughts:

A surprisingly sweet, romantic, and emotional novel. I quickly fell for Lilly & Nate and their story. This book is full of wit and snarky humor, with just enough erotica not to be overdone and take away from the importance of the story. This book is more about two people learning to forgive themselves for past circumstances that were out of their control, so that they could have a life they both deserve with love and hope for the future. I was really touched by their story and the pain they both were fighting to survive.

Lilly needs a ride to her best friend’s wedding, due to horrible weather cancelling her flight. She ends up hitching a ride with Nate – the groom’s brother, and her former fling. A year prior, Lilly and Nate had hooked up, only for him to never give her the time of day again. She felt a connection to him and is still harboring feelings she can’t seem to let go. Angry from his silence the past year, she is determined not to fall for him again.

Nate is a marine who has suffered some terrible losses in his life. He lives with the guilt and pain weighing on him heavily every day, and doesn’t feel worthy of anyone’s love and understanding. As a favor to his brother and future sister-in-law, he agrees to give Lilly a ride. He hasn’t forgotten the night they spent together, nor has he stopped wanting Lilly for a minute. But his past and the pain he’s dealing with keeps him from getting close to anyone.

On their road trip, there are some hilarious moments, and some really HOT moments. While Nate is struggling not to give in to his attraction to Lilly, he finds it extremely hard to stay away from her. And as they stop along the way, Lilly starts to see a different side of Nate and that maybe there’s more to him than just the asshole that slept with her and never called again.

What surprised me most about this story was that it was more than just sex and humor. Both Lilly and Nate have real pain and issues they are dealing with and it results in some of the most tender and heartbreaking moments. I loved their relationship and was cheering them on, hoping they could get past the barriers keeping them from committing to each other.

Nate is a beautiful broken man you can’t help but adore. When you find out what he’s been through, you can understand why he pushes Lilly away, and it’s commendable. All you want is to see the poor guy get his happiness. It tugged on my heart.

Although this book was predictable, it didn’t make it any less enjoyable. A beautiful love story that I’m glad I read!

My Thoughts:
Lordy, I just love a hot geek! They have a brain, can carry on a stimulating conversation, are cute, but rarely know just how much so. Oh, my heart is already in a little flutter thinking about these types! 

Michelle is the small town girl looking to make it on her own in the big city.  Things are going according to plan when she gets hired on by a tech company, LiteWave.  While working late one night Michelle has some computer trouble, and a nerdy but oh-so-hot fellow employee (or so she thinks) helps her out.  They have an instant attraction and strike up a friendship.  Little does Michelle know that her hot geek, Sark, is actually the CEO and founder of LiteWave.  One thing leads to another and friendship becomes a swoony romance.  Mistaken identity is still a factor here even though Sark thinks he cleared thing up, Michelle didn’t quite get the message which leads to a little drama in the work place.  Can these two get past their positions and work things out?

Love, Technically was a sweet romance that you could easily read in a couple of hours.  Perfect for a quick fix!  In spite of this only being 127 pages there is no insta-love here.  Instant attraction, yes, but Michelle and Sark get to know each other before falling.  They share their hopes and dreams, their daily stresses, and lean on each other for support.  There are a few lusty kisses, and some hotter scenes that’ll get your heart racing, making this a satisfying little “love bite”! 

Cold was no longer the problem.  Spontaneously combusting could be, though.  Sark might act like the cutest member of The Big Bang Theory’s cast, but he knew how to kiss.

Yes, please!

Plus, who can resist a smoking hot man with nerdy glasses and not an ounce of ego?!  I can’t, that’s for sure!

My Thoughts:

Tessa bailey has become my new go-to-author if I want a story to light my insides ON FIRE and capture my heart with a sweet romance, as well. 

Story Brookes flies out to New York from California when she gets the call that her father, a big time hostage negotiator, suffered a heart attack. Leaving California is not a hard decision because her fiancé has just dumped her two weeks before the wedding (jerk!). What she doesn’t count on is instant attraction and chemistry with her father’s protégé, Daniel. He’s the good at his job, being a cop and brilliant hostage negotiator, but he’s also a notorious womanizer.  Story has no plans of getting involved but the instant sexual tension Daniel ignites is impossible to ignore.  She’s only in New York for a short time, so what’s the harm in taking advantage of Daniel’s well-honed skills? She deserves pleasure and excitement after being dumped by her fiancé.  She wonders how come that doesn’t hurt more.

Daniel has had meaningless one-night stands for as long as he can remember.  When he meets his mentor’s daughter, Story, he can’t explain the way she affects him.  The way she gets him and the all consuming passion she ignites in him. Story is about to knock his socks off and shatter all his walls of protection, too. When Jack makes it abundantly clear he stay away from Story or face the removal of *ahea* certain appendages, Daniel tries to comply. 

Have a mentioned Tessa Bailey is my new queen of Alpha Males?! When I want a bossy, possessive hot Alpha male, I just need to pull up one of her stories and my wish is granted! Daniel was all of that with a sad past and vulnerability that will make you want to kiss it all better! Story was a girl after my heart, too. Being dumped by her fiancé two weeks before the wedding!! Who does that?!! That’s okay, because she has Daniel to make her forget!

This was a quick, read only about 200 pages but boy does it pack a punch. Fiery hot spice and a sweet romance neither wants to acknowledge. This Story is oh-so-good! Oh-so-scrumptious!!I’m putting Tessa Bailey on my “auto-buy” list.

As the death toll rises, Gabe’s team of delinquents must figure out how to work together long enough to save the day. Or, at least, not get themselves killed. Because Gabe’s finally found something worth living for, and God help him if he can’t bring her brother back alive.

My thoughts:

SEAL of Honor felt like a movie plot starring some hunky (or group of hunky actors, as is the case here!) actor parading through South America on a rescue mission. There was danger, lots of suspense and of course, a steamy romance!

Gabe Bristow is forced to take an early retirement from the Navy SEALS because of an injury.  Being Lieutenant Commander was very much part of his identity so he doesn’t quite know what to do with himself until his best friend and former teammate, Travis Quinn, serves up an offer he can’t refuse.  Not that he’s completely excited to become part of the HumInt Inc. Hostage Rescue and Negotiation Team, aka HORNET, a group privately funded, but he doesn’t want to sit behind a desk for the rest of his life either. So he agrees to become the man in charge, the Commanding Officer of their task force.

There is no wait time for action because they already have a time sensitive mission.  A wealthy American has been taken hostage in Bogotá, Columbia and the FBI refuses to send in a team to rescue him.  They’re hired by the insurance company to retrieve Bryson Van Amee before they have to pay out the hefty ransom. HORNET’S newly formed team of rag tag experts better get their act together quickly, because Van Amee’s life is in their hands, and time is running out.  Another wrench in the works is Van Amee’s sister, Audrey who flies down to Columbia to look for her brother after getting no help from any government organization.

I wasn’t expecting to be thrown into this much action pretty much right off the bat, and I was quickly clicking through the pages to find out what happened next! Gabe and Audrey meet in this adrenaline charged situation and it’s basically lust at first sight, but the dangerous situations that they’re thrown into causes them to rely and lean on each other in very intimate ways!

His breath tickled her ear.  “I have another injury that needs kissing.”

She smiled into the gathering dark. “Do you?” 

“Mm.” He rolled her over and propped himself up on one elbow, bending down until his mouth hovered millimeters above hers. “Right…” He bussed his lips over hers, caught her lower lip in a gentle tug that she felt all the way to her womb. “…here.”

Oh, my!

The romance was sweet and spicy, and interspersed throughout this nail-bitingly suspenseful read.  Even though I had my suspicions about who was behind the kidnapping plot, it still unraveled in a mysterious way and there were heart pounding scenes right up to the end!

This was a quick and entertaining read, and really didn’t feel like 352 pages long.  You could easily get through this in one sitting.  I think we’ll probably have stories coming centering on the other hunky members of HORNET, because this is book one in a series, and SEAL of Honor wraps up nicely.  I think any sequels will be just as entertaining, because each member has their own troubled past hinted at, and I want to know their secrets!
