The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.
After taking almost 9 hours to get home (last Sunday) from down south (it took 6 hours to get there) I was happy to get home! We had so much snow on the recommended route home that we had to turn around and take another way not suggested by Apple Maps. Not sure why maps would suggest such a treacherous route other than it was a lot shorter. Oh well, we eventually got home.
It's been raining quite a bit. I'm happy we're getting so much rain and snow in the higher elevations because California needs it, but it's been a lot in a short amount of time. We haven't had issues at our house, the creek on the property is a lot lower and so even though it's been raging we're in no danger of flooding. We finally had a break Friday and I took the opportunity to get out for a run. Listening to a good audiobook always makes the time go by quickly and I had two great listens this last week.

I had a solid reading week. One eARC, Sleep No More, and two audios, The Villa and All the Dangerous Things, which was my favorite.
Received/Purchased/Library Lend:
I was so excited to get an audio ARC of Sweep of the Heart! I've already started listening and it's been cracking me up. Love Allison Brennan's mystery/thriller books so I was happy to get Don't Open the Door. I've enjoyed Veronica Speedwell, but I didn't read through the whole description before downloading the newest, and so I missed that Veronica and Stoker are having relationship issues. Hopefully, it won't be too frustrating.

How was your week?
Hope the rain doesn't get to be too much in other parts of California. Followed you on instagram.
ReplyDeleteWe need the rain, but I hope it doesn't flood for others here in CA. Thanks! I followed back! :)
DeleteI saw the snow in the US and I can only imagine what your ride home would look like Rachel! I am glad you made it home safely!
ReplyDeleteIt was scary (even with chains!) so I'm happy we turned around and went the longer route.
DeleteWell, the weather has not been kind to you. I know my garmin had a setting (shortest route or no tolls), but I don't know how the apps work. I use Google maps, no clue. Glad you made it home safely and that the rain is not wrecking havoc on your home
ReplyDeleteWe need the rain so I'm happy to get it. I'd just like to stay home and enjoy it rather than drive in it. :) I will sometimes plug in Google Maps instead of Apple because of the ridiculous route they're trying to give me.
DeleteI don't why those map apps don't update base on how bad the weather is but they should. Glad you got home okay.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Exactly! The sheriff was on his way up once we got turned around and were heading back down the mountain. No doubt he was going to shut the road down.
DeleteI don't often use GPS but I have noticed that when we do the route that they want you to go often doesn't make any sense. I cannot wait to start reading A Sinister Revenge and may sneak it into my reading schedule soon.
ReplyDeleteI've been using GPS more than I normally would because we moved to a new area and I'm still not familiar with all the routes, but I use it traveling too. I don't always know if I'm getting the best route but I did know we were not getting the best route last week!
DeleteApple Maps is terrible. They either take me to the wrong place, or take a route that is totally uncalled for. Glad you are getting the precipitation-Cali does need it!
ReplyDeleteSometimes yes. It's been nice to have it since we moved to a new area but then again I have no idea if the routes are good or not based on the available options.
DeleteApple maps sometimes is not helpful and other times it really saved me. I have Google on my phone also and sometimes it's interesting to try both to see if there are differences. Sorry you had to do all that difficult driving. I want Don't Open the Door but generally Avon hates me. Usually I can get it on audio for review but with the strike that's not happening. Sign. I hope this week is less crazy weather for you.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
I agree, I've been so thankful to have it since we moved. Yes, I'll get different routes from the different apps. Avon hates me too. I rarely get anything from them but somehow I'm auto approved for the Harlequin Trade reads on Edelweiss. I'm auto approved in NG for Harlequin but it seems they've scaled back their offers of Harlequin and now some of the Maisey Yates, Sarah Morgan, and Brenda Novak read are only available to me if I request yet I'm able to download them on Edelweiss. Weird.
DeleteYikes that is so long! You look like you have some suspenseful reads. I almost tried Krentz a while ago, and The Villa has been on my mind a bit since reading another of her books. Hope you had a fabulous New Year!
ReplyDeleteIt was! Thankfully we had a really good audio book to listen to. I think you'd like The Villa, Greg. You too!
DeleteGood that you're not getting any of the flooding going on, but yowsers what a trip home last week. I'm crossing my fingers about the new Veronica Speedwell getting past those relationship issues quickly. I can't wait to listen to the audio of Sweep of the Heart.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, Rachel!
Yes I'm happy about how our house is situated so that we aren't prone to flooding. I'm crossing my fingers too! It seems like Veronica is always causing unnecessary drama with them! I'm loving the audio even though they've changed narrators. Hope you do too!
DeleteThat was a scary trip home! I'm glad your home is safe from the flooding.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was! Thanks, Wendy!
DeleteStay safe my friend.

I'm glad you got home safe, despite it taking much longer to get there. I'm excited to read All the Dangerous Things; plan on reading that this month.

We got a mix of rain and snow this week, but I am happy with whatever moisture we can get! Glad you have that Rachel Hawkins.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you made it home safely. That's quite a drive in bad weather! How has the wind been where you are? My brother said his power went out again this weekend because of the wind. And a friend of mine who is in Sacramento said school was cancelled today because of the wind and concern over the coming storm. It's pretty cloudy here and we're expecting the storm in Southern California tonight or tomorrow. The sun came out for a bit yesterday, which was nice. I am hoping to read The Villa soon. I keep hearing good things about it. I can't wait to read Sweep of the Heart. I love that series. I hope you have a great week, Rachel! Stay warm, dry and safe!
ReplyDeleteThe wind hasn't been bad in the area I live in. Sacramento is getting it pretty bad. We're about an hour north of there and not so flat. I think that's why we haven't had flooding issues.
DeleteHope you enjoy The Villa and Sweep of the Heart was fantastic! Enjoy and thank you! I hope you had a lovely week as well!
Glad to hear you made it home alright. We've had some rain here today but not much,
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary!
DeleteI hope the risk of flooding remains low.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
I've been seeing news about flooding in CA. I hope you're not affected, Rachel. I'm glad All the Dangerous Things was such a hit. I've been seeing some rave reviews for it. Hope you're having a great week!
ReplyDeleteAm glad you are safe and sound! I hope you enjoy your reads.
ReplyDeleteWOW, 9 hours is crazy
