The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.
I've been on an unplanned mini-break from the blog. Between being so busy with work and then meeting my daughter, SIL, and grandkids over an extended New Year's vacation I haven't hardly opened up my computer or had the time to blog. I'm beat. We had weather related road closures due to the massive storm. We actually had 13 inches of rain over a three day period at our house. All over California there's been flooding issues. It took us six hours getting to Central California but it's going to take eight or nine hours to get home. We'll see. On the road now. I'm late getting this up because my husband and I were so riveted by the audiobook we were listening to (Hidden Pictures) we had to finish it!
I love where we've moved, but it's been a chore finding new doctors. I finally got in to a new eye doctor and they think I have narrow angle glaucoma. I have an appointment Wednesday with the eye surgeon for a consult to possibly laser a tiny hole to relieve pressure in the eyes as a preventative measure. My sister has the same thing but she's only had to have the pressures monitored so far. It's a little worrisome.

This is my reading over the last two weeks. Six are novella or short stories I added to help me make my Audio Book Challenge for the year. I'll just tell you my favorites of the bunch: Hidden Pictures (5 stars), Rebel Yule, The Upsidedown Christmas (5 stars), Livid, Ruby Fever (5 Stars).
I complete both reading challenges I signed up for: Goodreads: I read 150 books which was my original goal. I lowered it about halfway through the year to 125 books because I wasn't sure I'd make it with all the extra time suck of the moving to a new home and area. I also made my Audio Book Challenge. I listened to my 100th book yesterday December 31st! So 100 of my goal of 100! I'll be working on that post.
I'll list my Received/Purchased/Library Lends and other things next week. I want to get around to visit other blogs before my laptop battery dies!
Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays with family, friends and good books!
Sounds like a busy week or so, Rachel. I imagine you'll be lad to get home - however long it takes. That's a whole lot of a rain in a short period! I hope the follow up with the eye doctor brings some encouraging news. I've been meaning to read something y Kate Meader for ages.
ReplyDeleteIt was,Tanya! And yes, I was so glad to get home. I'm thinking the preventive procedure will help with my eyes and take the risk of going blind off the table. It sucks, but at least I can do something.
DeleteI think you'd love Kate Meader's hockey romances. :)
Wow that is a LOT of rain! Hope everything goes okay with the eye issue.
ReplyDeleteI know, right?! Me too. It's a little scary, but I had an aunt with the same condition and she's done alright even with catching it late. I guess it's hereditary.
DeleteWhat a week for you! Since you loved The Upside Down Christmas, I recommend The Best Worst Christmas (if you haven't listened to it yet). Happy New Year ✨.
ReplyDeleteI did read *listen* to The Best Worst Christmas and really enjoyed it which is why I picked up The Upside Down Christmas. I loved that one even more and want to pick up more by Kate Forster now. Thank you, Lucy! I hope you do too! :)
DeleteOh no! I hate to hear that you may have glaucoma. I believe that my co-worker had the procedure that you mentioned and he has done well with his eyes. It sounds like you have been very busy and a break was well deserved. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt's a bummer, but I'm happy they can do some preventative procedures so I don't go blind. It may help my eyesight too. I guess it's hereditary. My aunt has it and my sister has high pressures in her eyes that they're monitoring. Thanks Carole! I'm happy to be home and happy I have tomorrow off! :)
DeleteThat's great news about all the rain hitting CA, but hope you can get where you need to go safely. My aunt's area is flooded.
ReplyDeleteSuper job on making both your challenges.
Happy New Year, Rachel!
Thanks, Sophia! There was a lot of areas flooded. The rain amounts we had are crazy. We do need it in California, though. I hope it makes a difference with the drought here.
DeleteYay, CA needs the rain. You read some fun books the past few weeks. I am hoping the New Year is good for you!
ReplyDeleteYou read a lot of good books. ! I can see you got a lot more rain again today too!
ReplyDeleteYes! We did! We do need it, though so I'm happy about that. I just hope it makes a difference with the drought.
DeleteSound like you have a busy week! I hope the eye surgery goes well.

That is some massive rain. I cannot imagine what a nightmare it was to travel in. Glad you made it to and from your destination safely. Good luck with the eye and doctor. I hope all goes well.
ReplyDeleteI was very happy to get home. It took us almost 9 hours with all the re-routing. I have my eye appointment today so we'll see. Thank you!
Delete150 books is amazing! Love all the festive book covers. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThanks! You too!
DeleteHappy New Year, Rachel! We got so much snow yesterday it caused a power outtage...12 hours without electricity. What a way to start off 2023. But we do need the snow. I hope all goes well at the eye doctor; anything to do with your eyes is a little scary. And I wish you a very joy-filled 2023. :D
ReplyDeleteOmg, that's no fun! Yes, we all need the rain and snow pack in the West. It is a little scary! Thank you, Lark! You too! :)
DeleteIt does get busy around the holidays and you should enjoy your family. I hope everything goes well with your eye appt. Happy New Year and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Thanks Anne! Yes, and I hate traveling during the holidays. I try not to do it. You too! :)
DeleteI tried some of these christmas novellas and they were fun for sure. I hope you are able to find good doctors in your new area. It can be a pain whenever you move. Happy New Year darling and hope you will be able to pick up some nice books to entertain and delight you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Renee! You too!
DeleteSorry to hear about your eyes. I hope all goes well with the surgery. I had LASIK earlier this year (2022) and it was a really good experience. I hope you have a fantastic 2023!
