The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.
I got contacts this last week and gotta say, I'm not loving them. They're only for normal tasks like gardening, cooking, and distance which is what I wanted. If I read I just wear readers. My right eye is fine, but my left eye, which apparently has a stigmatism always feels like there's something scratchy at the bottome of my eye. My sister thinks I may have put the left one in reversed the times I've been wearing them. That could be possible. I guess we'll see.
My husband took Thursday and Friday off so he wouldn't lose PTO and we went wine tasting on Friday in Amador County, about and hour and a half away from us. We stopped at Trader Joes for picnic items and enjoyed our excursion.
The weather hasn't been as hot, but still hot enough to have to water a lot. My panicle hydrangeas are really coming along. The blossoms are starting to open more and more. They turn cream with a bit of a pink tinge eventually. I planted wisteria last fall and it didn't bloom in the spring like the plant usually does, but it started blooming a few weeks ago. I was so surprised because usually it's only the older plants that bloom after that initial spring explosion. I was so excited!

A pretty good reading week with Resonance Surge as my favorite. Gone Tonight was a twisty mystery, and In the Weeds was a dreamy romance. I wanted to love Resisting the Grump, unrequited love and grumpy vs. sunshine romances pull me straight in, unfortunately this missed the mark for me.
Received/Purchased/Library Lend:
Looking forward to all. The Raging Storm was from a Netgalley "read now for 48 hrs" email. It sounded good so grabbed it and then downloaded the first book in the series from my library.
Watched:
Loved this so much! Lots of laughs and an ending that'll make you smile! Based on Katherine Center's book. Now they need to make Duncan's (Helen's brother) story, What You Wish For, into a movie!
How was your week?
Your wisteria and hydrangeas look fantastic! We have been trying to get hydrangeas that will bloom in our shady yard: maybe we succeeded this year.
ReplyDeletebest, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I love hydrangeas too! I hope you find the right sun exposure. They're so picky about that and what they can bear with heat. Good luck with them!
DeleteI hope you can figure out why that on contact is feeling scratchy, that doesn't sound comfortable. I never tried lenses as that not possible for my eyes. I hope the wine tasting was fun. Your hydrangeas look great! I hope you'll have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI hope I figure it out, too. I'm supposed to go to the eye Dr. again on Tuesday. We'll see. It was fun! Thanks, you too!
DeleteThanks for sharing your flower photos. They're beautiful. 😍
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful new week! ☀
Thanks! You too! :)
DeleteI hope the contacts work out, but feeling like something isn't sitting right, or is scratching your eye, is super annoying and distracting. I didn't realize one of Center's books had been adapted. I might have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI'll give it a go a few more times. Hopefully I'll get it sorted so they work. My sister says there's a definite adjustment period.
DeleteGood luck with the contacts! I tried really hard with them, but I gave up in the end. They were just too itchy.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not loving them. We'll see how it goes. Sorry to hear they didn't work out for you.
DeleteI got the Read for 48 hours offer too, and downloaded all four books. They do look good. Have a good reading week.
ReplyDeleteI hope we both enjoy them! You too!
DeleteThanks for the mention of Resonance Surge. I'm caught up on that series, but missed that there's a new one. The e-book is now on hold at the library for me.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it, Joy!
DeleteContacts can be such an adjustment. I've worn them for years but yes, when you get one in wrong or reversed... ouch! I hope you feel more comfortable with them soon. Love the flowers, especially the wisteria. they're pretty.
ReplyDeleteAnn Cleeves' books look good to me, I enjoyed the Shetland series a few years ago which I guess were based on her series.
I feel more hopeful knowing that you've worn them for years. Hopefully I'll get them all sorted and can wear them. Thanks! I love wisteria! I didn't know they had a series based on Cleeves' books. I'll have to look it up. Thanks for the info! :)
DeleteI hope it works out. I couldn't live without mine because I hate glasses. But my daughter has a tough time with her contacts too...
DeleteShetland was a really good series!
My plants didn't bloom this year like they usually do. I hope that they do better next year. Yours are gorgeous! I wore contacts from the time I was a teenager until my early 40s. I just couldn't get them to work for me now that I need bifocals. When you have them inside out, it does feel the way that you are describing. I hope that you get the to work for you. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI've been fertilizing regularly so things are blooming well. It's nice after the long winter we had. Hope you see more blooms next year. I'm new to contacts so I just have them for seeing all around me and distance. I need glasses to read. I didn't want to do the one contact for far and one for near. I think that would be too much for me right now. I hope they work out too! You too, Carole!
DeleteI haven't worn contacts since my 20s (back in the 90s), but they were always a struggle because of my dry eye. Hope you can find ones that work better for you. Your flowers are beautiful. Seem well worth the labor. I want to know about that CLo story. I adored the Unhoneymooners.
ReplyDeleteI hope I can get the contacts to work. I do have dry eyes as well. Thank you! I love growing flowers! I guess the CLo story is a novella. I'm looking forward to it!
DeleteGood luck with the contacts. Hope you get more used to them soon. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope so too!
DeleteYay for your little getaway. I love seeing your flowers and hearing about your gardening. My daughter insisted on trying contacts but only got a small sample pack but she never wore them after the training session. (Which I figured might happen) She's had glasses since elementary school which is more like my brother. Neither of her parents needed glasses until much later. I hope they work for when you feel you need them. I was happy to hear your thoughts on some of your reads. I am still juggling some stuff for August. I have had that exact Katherine Center book on my library reserve for like 2 years. Maybe I will finally get to it. The Ann Cleeves series is a good one but yes, I would read the earlier books in the series.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Thanks, Anne! I love seeing and hearing about your garden too! I hope I can get used to the contacts. We'll see. I didn't have to start wearing glasses until around 40 and that was only for reading. Now I need more. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the Ann Cleeves series. I'm looking forward to starting it!
DeleteI always enjoy seeing people's photos of their gardens and their flowers! Alas, I am not a gardener... particularly during summer's heat and humidity.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the feeling of sand in your eye with your new contacts: if you don't adjust to it, and if it turns out not to be caused by putting your contacts in the wrong direction, you may want to get checked for dry eyes. I am hyperthyroid, and even on the right dose of replacement thyroid, my eyes are just a little too dry to wear most contacts comfortably. (And have been for 30 years.)
I have MAJOR astigmatism in both eyes and tried to wear contacts once. It was a definite no for me. I hope you can get used to them!!!
ReplyDeleteWine tasting and a picnic sound delightful!
I hope I can too. The dr. didn't tell me I have a stigmatism in the left eye before I got the contacts. Not sure I would've went through with it had I known that. It was nice!
DeleteYour flowers look lovely. I just watched Happiness for Beginners last night and loved it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was really good, right?
DeleteI watched that netflix movie too :D Fun
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you enjoyed it too! :)
DeleteI wanted to love Resisting the Grump, too, but ended up not even finishing it. The cover is the best part of that one. Hope you have a good week! :D
ReplyDeleteYes! I loved the cover. Sadly the story didn't live up to expectations. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one, because it has high ratings on GRs.
DeleteI enjoyed Katherine Center's books, so maybe I will look for this movie. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that your contacts are working well. I hated wearing mine, and I stopped completely after I retired.
I hope you enjoy the show! I hope contacts work out. I guess we'll see.
DeleteI look forward to seeing your hydrangea in bloom. Neato that the wisteria didn't miss this year's bloom. Your picnic and wine tour sounds like a fun outing.
ReplyDeleteBummer about the contact. My husband has a heck of a time with his these days, too.
I enjoyed Resonance Surge the best out of my last week's stack, too.
Have a good week, Rachel!
I was surprised I got blooms on the wisteria! Usually if they don't to the big spring bloom they're too young and you don't get anything. I hope the contacts end up working. Glasses are a pain. So happy to hear you loved Resonance Surge too! I hope you have a great week, Sophia!
DeleteOooh thank you for reminding me that Happiness for Beginners is out now!
ReplyDeleteHope you love it too Sophie!
DeleteI've always liked hydrangeas are very pretty. I've never worn contacts only reading glasses.
ReplyDeleteMe too! It's a challenge to get the right spot for them. Not sure contacts are for me either.
DeleteThose hydrangeas are beautiful! Glad you enjoyed the movie, I'm still wanting to read the book first :)
ReplyDeleteI could not wear contacts. I have a twitch in my eyes. Nice haul this week!
