Sunday Post #214

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.

This week my husband and I celebrated our thirty-sixth year anniversary. We didn't do anything on the actual day because we both worked. We went out with my sister and her husband last night and had a nice dinner at a local restaurant. Wine, laughs and catching up.

Summer has truly landed here with temps in the high 80s and 90s for most of last week, but we had a high of 103 today and tomorrow it's supposed to be 104. It's hot! I've shaded my hydrangeas with umbrellas because they're we're withering. I may have to move them to a different spot.

-

There's a bunch of wild plum trees on my running path. They're the size of cherries, and must be different varieties because there are different colored ones. I gathered up about 5lbs of plums and made plum butter. It's delicious!

I had a great reading week with one 5 Star: Hello Stranger, one 4.5 Star: Beginning of Forever and two 4 Star reads: Barbarian's Mate and Hatchet Island.

Received/Purchased/Library Lend:

I'm looking forward to all three, but I'm so excited I got approved for the audio of Magic Tides/Magic Claims! I've already read and loved Magic Tides but thrilled to do a re-read by audio. So happy for anything Ilona Andrews comes up with!

    1. Thank you! Thankfully we only have a couple of days just over 100 degrees. Yes, I have to water a bunch so my plants don't fry! Hope you have a wonderful week as well!

  3. OMG happy anniversary! 36 years is a long time! I think we'll be at our 29th next month ;-) And I hope you'll all be able to stay cool in such heat! I also can't wait to read Hello Stranger!

    1. Thank you! Yes it is a long time! We got married super young. I was 17! Crazy, right? Thankfully we don't have many days of over 100 degrees out here, and we have good air conditioning. Plus, it does cool down a lot at night. Hope you love Hello Stranger as much as I did!

  7. Happy Anniversary! 36 years is something to be proud of. Those are the smallest plums that I have ever seen. Plum butter sounds amazing. I almost requested the Ilona Andrews audio but I plan to buy it so I actually showed some restraint (which is hard to believe). Have a great week!

    1. Thank you! I know, right? I thought they were cherries at first. I will probably end up buying the Ilona Andrews audio because the audio goes away after archival with Netgalley which is such a bummer. I'm sure my husband and I will end up doing a relisten on some road trip in the future. Hope you have a great week too, Carole!

  8. Happy anniversary, Rachel! Glad you had a nice night out. Sounds like your temps are really climbing. It's been in the 90's here all week with horrible humidity. Ugh. Those little baby plums are too cute. And yum on the plum butter!

    1. Thank you, Tanya! We did have a nice night out. Thankfully our high temps don't come with high humidity. My daughter gets that in Texas now which is why she spent most of the summer so far in Montana.

  9. Happy anniversary! I love hydrangeas they are so pretty. It's supposed to be 118 today, which if we actually reach that will be a record for us.

    1. Thank you, Mary! I love hydrangeas too! We had 118 degrees several times when I lived in Southern California and it's hard to be outside in that even just walking to the car to drive. Hope you're able to stay cool, Mary!

  10. Congratulations! That's a lot of years together. Here's to many more! I thought the northern part of CA was cooler. I was apparently wrong. Stay cool!

    1. Thank you! It is cooler than Southern California which seems to be hot 9 months out of the year. Here we get a few days, here and there, of over 100 degree temps, but we have the seasons here so I can deal with heat for a couple of months a year. I'll try, lol! :)

  11. Happy anniversary. It's shocking you are getting so hot. Your hydrangea is beautiful and similar to the variety I have which I planted in part shade. I am going to add acidity next year to get blue instead of pink. You got some great books. Yay for plum jam!

    1. Yes, we do get some hot days here and there, during the summer. Thankfully we don't have high humidity and we get the change in seasons which is something we didn't have in Southern California. I need to add some more acid for my hydrangea. They've just started blooming here.

  12. Happy anniversary! And wow that's hot. We've been oddly mild here for July, it's odd. That plum butter does sound delicious! Love the look of Beneath Dark Waters, too... atmospheric cover.

    1. I looked for something I could make with a bunch of plums and that's what came up. It's like jam. Not sure why they call it plum butter because there's no butter in it, but it's delicious!

    1. Thank you, Victoria! I loved the first book just reading, so I think I'll love it. I was one of the audio testers that helped pick the female narrator, Hillary Huber and I love her narration, so I have a good feeling!

  17. We lived in Vegas for a few years and had those temps & higher. Now that we're in Seattle, reaching 90d seems super hot. We're hanging out in the low to mid 80s, which is actually a very pleasant temp for me. Congrats on 36 years! Next week we'll be celebrating 44.....time flies! Have a terrific week.

    1. Yes, 90 for Seattle is hot. I was there one summer when it was in the 90s and thankfully I was at a hotel that had air conditioning because a lot of the shops and restaurants did not and it felt very hot! Maybe the humidity is higher because of being by the ocean and so it feels hotter? Happy to hear you're having milder temps and congrats on reaching 44 years! You too, Terrie!

  18. Yay for your anniversary, Rachel! Whew, scorcher temps for sure. Hope you and your hydrangeas beat the heat.
Fab reading week and it looks like more winners in your book haul, too. Your plum butter does sound delicious.

That is so cool about the wild plums! It's like something out of Anne of Green Gables. How fun!
