Sunday Post #281

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.

The new fire in Southern California on Wednesday was scarily close to the house my son just moved from and our old house! We lived about two miles from each other. His old house was in the mandatory evacuation area. They had a lot of aerial support and the nearby lake. Thankfully, it's pretty much out now. I really think arson is at play with all these fires. I guess we'll see.

I got my haircut by a new hairdresser on Monday and I was really pleased! It's been almost three years since my move to Northern California and I have had a difficult time finding someone. I feel like I finally landed with someone good!

I bought several vintage Charles Wysocki puzzles on eBay. I already have a lot, but as I was looking up the name for an old one I worked I came across several I didn't own and went down a rabbit hole of looking for ones I didn't have. I now have six on the way! I usually always have a puzzle out that I'm working on. I do them while listening to audiobooks.

Latest puzzle: World of Mushrooms

Great Blue Heron seen on my run

Flowers from Trader Joes

Smokey bird watching

  1. Thanks for reminding me - I want a haircut! The dry weather and static is driving me crazy. We have a hairdresser we like, but I hate parting with my money for what feels like vanity! Glad your son is okay - the fires are horrifying!

  4. I hope the rain near L.A. might help getting things put out. Glad you moved - your son moved to Montana and you up North three yrs ago? You must be so pleased -- your yard & area are beautiful. We moved 2 years ago now and are so much happier in a more rural area. Thank goodness for moves! It was hard at the time but worth it.

  5. Glad the haircut is a success - it's a detail that is really important. And so sorry you've had such an anxious time with the fires - I've been horrified at the scenes unfolding on my TV... That jigsaw looks so very beautiful - no wonder you're collecting them! I hope you have a great week.

  8. Those fires are scary. I really hate fires. Glad that they got it mostly out.

  9. When the pandemic closed everything, I started cutting my own hair and somehow I have never gone back to professional haircuts. Once I started thinking about someone who spends all day face to face close with a lot of people, now breathing in my face, I couldn’t unthink it.

  11. The fires are terrible, but I am glad your family is safe. It is hard to find a hairdresser. My daughter gets her hair done when she comes back to NJ. She's been in Chicago since 2018 and still has not found someone.

  12. Glad you all are okay and the fire is under control, even though you don't live in that area anymore. When I'm in Florida I have a hard time finding someone to cut my hair. I have the Jill Shalvis book to read, thanks for the reminder. I used to do puzzles all the time, but now only do them with my granddaughter. I hope you have a wonderful week, Rachel.

  13. It sounds like it's been quite a week for you, with the fire danger being a real concern but thankfully turning out okay. I’m so glad your new haircut turned out great; it’s always a win when you finally find a good stylist! The vintage Charles Wysocki puzzles sound like such a fun treasure hunt! It must be so relaxing to work on those while enjoying audiobooks—what a perfect combination for winding down.

I invite you to read my new blog post: melodyjacob.com. Have a lovely week ahead.

  14. Yikes about the fires! That's a little too close to home even if you're not there anymore.

    Love the heron pic!

Ooh I'm so behind on Kelley Armstrong! I miss that series! And the Lisa Unger book looks fabulous too.

  15. The fires are so horrific. I'm glad you are safe where you are now. Now that the kids have gone back to school, I've been reading more, even some older TBR books.

  16. It does take a long time to find a new hairdresser you can trust to get it right! I changed about 18 months ago and recently told him he could do whatever he likes now as I am happy with what he does.

    Have a great week.

  17. I’m in need of a haircut, I used to just do it myself but I prefer layers in summer because it cooler and I can’t do those.
The flowers are lovely, so are those puzzles.

Wishing you a happy reading week
