Sunday Post #355

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.

Happy Sunday!

It was a hell of a week!

I flew out to Texas on Tuesday, a last minute trip because my daughter asked me to watch the kids so she could go take care of business in Montana. I got there in the afternoon and played Uber for the kids taking them to school, cheer and football practice. I was supposed to fly home on a direct flight on Thursday. My husband had a procedure early on Friday and given that he'd be under anesthesia I needed to be there to drive him home.

Unfortunately, Texas and surrounding states had insane storms come through on Thursday. I looked at my flight in the morning and it showed it was delayed from 5:30pm to10:30pm and it kept getting worse. It ended up corrected to 9:15pm and I boarded the plane, but last minute they had all the Northern California passengers get off to take another flight. That flight ended up full, so I was left with the option of taking three flights to eventually land at 3:30am (5:30am my time in Texas) to get home. I took it. I got home at 4:30am, slept for two hours, got up at and went with my husband to the hospital for his procedure. Got home around 12:00pm and went to bed. That was yesterday.

I just counted and that made ten flights in the last thirty days. I don't want to see a plane or airport for a good long while!

I did have a good day today. Relaxed with my coffee, went for a run, and went to lunch with my husband.

I work tomorrow.

  2. Hope your husband's procedure went well! I would have been so stressed and probably not have handled all of that so well. I can totally understand taking a break from flying for a while too! Hope you have a good week!

    1. I was totally stressed and at one point I almost started crying, but took a breath and calmed down. It all worked out. I'm glad it's over!

  4. Wow. That was a horror of a week. Is there no one in Texas who could help - I mean it would have to be less expensive than you flying for two days. Although I'm sure it is great to be there and in their lives. I hope this week is more relaxed for you.

    1. We've been close since the kids were babies. They are looking for some extra help, like a sort of nanny to help since they expect to be gone on and off.

  5. I'm so sorry that you had troubles with flying out of Texas. That's a lot of flying. The airlines should give you special service! And I see why you didn't get much reading done.

    1. It was the weather, so it couldn't be helped. I am happy to be home, though. I know, right?! Lol.

  6. WOW! What a wild trip to get home! My husband just literally flew around the world in less than two weeks. He had business meetings in India, Kuala Lumpur, and California. He's been sleeping for two days now!

    1. Oh my goodness! That sounds like an absolute nightmare! I slept most of Friday after I got home. I was awake all night.

  7. You had quite the eventful week. I just returned from a week long cruise, but two nights before, I spent the night in the hospital after a copperhead bite to my shoulder! Thankfully, it was a dry bite, but it gave me quite the scare. I'm always careful in my flowerbeds looking for snakes, but I never thought to check up in my large jasmine bushes!

    1. Oh, my goodness, Ethan! I think I'd die of fright! I'm so happy it was a dry bite, which I'm assuming he didn't excrete venom into you. At least you had a cruise to go on and help forget!

    2. Exactly. A dry bite means he was more trying to warn me off than anything else. But I've been very hesitant to return to the flowerbed haha.

  8. Oh my goodness, Rachel. How awful for you not knowing if you would get home in time for your husband's procedure. I'm happy that you made it, and had a day to recover before having to go to work. I can see why you didn't get a lot of reading done this week. I sure hope next week is better for you.

  9. Oh goodness, bad weather can make travel such a headache! That sounded like a wild Thursday, but how wonderful of you to step in and help your daughter and grandkids. Ten flights in thirty days is definitely enough to make anyone want to stay grounded for a while! Wishing your husband a smooth recovery, and I hope October gives you plenty of time to rest and recharge. Have a fantastic week!

  10. What a travel nightmare! Glad you made it back and were there for your husband. And glad you've had a chance to take a breather since.

  11. Oh dang, that was a lot of running around and flights rearranged to make it home. I refuse to travel by plane again. No thank you.

  12. I hate flying into or having a layover in Texas. Something always goes wrong..lol Hope you and your hubby are both recovering.

  13. Whoa that is airport hell. You might need to sleep for three days. What terrible luck. I have slept in airports before -- it's no fun! I do have one flight this month ... to San Fran to see my sister. Fingers crossed it's on time etc. I hope the rest of your October is peaceful & full of good reads.
