I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.

I truly enjoy stories about second chances because I’m never quite sure how I’ll respond when the characters have presented their case. With me, I think the most important element to books such as these is I feel there needs to be a significant amount of growth and remorse for me to feel like the character deserves that second chance. In Forever My Girl that’s exactly what we experience.
Liam walked away from his home town, football team, college and the girl he promised to love forever for a chance to play music and make a name for himself. Ten years later, he’s accomplished his goal as a famous rock star, but he’s never quite been able to fill that hole in his heart left after he walked away from Josie. When tragedy calls him back to Beaumont, he faces not only the love of his life, but a broken promise and a hope to be able to right a wrong.
I’ll admit up front, I had a slightly difficult time warming up to Liam at the beginning of the novel. At least for half of the book, he seemed so full of himself and quite jaded. Also, there was a huge part of me that hoped Josie didn’t sacrifice the progress she made for herself while he was away. She had a good life and a chance at happiness, so as that started to fall apart because of Liam’s presence, I had even one more reason to resent him.
It wasn’t until well past the mid-point when I started to warm up to Liam. What he shared and the actions he took to prove himself eventually had me rooting for him. It still didn’t feel right with how it all ended with Nick, but at the end of the day Josie and Liam truly belonged together.
The secondary cast was a perfect addition to this novel and they served a significant purpose of guiding the story and adding the right amount of substance to have you wanting for more. I’m excited to continue this series and jump into the other characters' lives.
Overall, the heart of this story revolves around taking chances, making mistakes and hoping for an opportunity to make things right. All worthy concepts that were well worth the time I invested in this book. I enjoyed Heidi McLaughlin’s writing and I’ll definitely be picking up the rest of the series.
