Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Contradictions by Tiffany King

Brandie and I read and loved No Attachments and Misunderstandings by Tiffany King, so we were both excited to read Tressa's story!  Today we have our reviews, a yummy excerpt, and a giveaway so make sure you scroll down to the bottom for a chance to enter and win a Paper Back Copy of Contradictions!

Publication Date: January 6th 2014 by Berkley Trade

About the book:

When everything starts spinning out of control . . .

Three years into college, Tressa Oliver’s life is a nonstop party. She’s skating by in her classes, and there’s no shortage of drinking, dancing, and general hell-raising. The only aspect that hasn’t been much fun: She can’t shake the toxic jerks that always seem to gravitate toward her.

It will take someone totally wrong . . .

Trent Lawson is the classic anti-bad boy: smart, boring, and way too serious. To a wild girl like Tressa, there’s no way in hell they’re compatible—especially since Trent seems to see straight through her defenses.

To set her right.

When a college prank goes terribly wrong, Tressa starts to suspect that her partying ways are leading nowhere fast. Now she has to turn to the last person she ever thought she’d ask for help—and quickly discovers that there’s more to Trent than meets the eye . . .

Rachel's Review:
The prospect of a hot, nerdy guy falling for a popular, party girl always grabs my attention so Tressa and Trent’s romance held all kinds of promise for me! I did really enjoy this story; it was a sweet and slow burn romance (once Tressa pulled her head out!).

Tressa was really hard to like at first, BUT I think that was the point.  She was a party girl and didn’t really take her college studies seriously, and so she was falling behind rapidly. Instead of buckling down she shoves those concerns aside, and does what? Goes out and parties some more! I wanted to shake so sense into Tressa! I’m not the party girl type, and to me the opportunity to go to college on your parent’s dime is such a huge privilege that I don’t understand why someone would waste it by screwing around so much! It just feels so ungrateful.

Tressa’s offered help to catch up, and turn things around, but refuses once she finds out Trent, a guy from her hometown, would be tutoring her. Trent is the studious, straight-laced, brainy type, and rumored to have crushed on Tressa from afar through high school.  Everything about him annoys Tressa, which annoyed me.  Man, she was a judgmental bitch at first!  It took something very drastic to wake Tressa up and reassess her attitude and life, but I was happy to see the positive changes that took place.  She feels remorse and regret over her behavior, and I began to really like her.

Tressa’s feelings about Trent change as well.  When she steps back and really looks at him stirrings of attraction begin.  Tressa starts to realize what a good guy he is, helpful, giving, and grounded. Trent lived up to Tressa’s nickname to me: Clark Trent because he was sort of a superhero in disguise with how much he helped Tressa.  I think smart and sweet is so extremely sexy! I loved the affect Trent had on Tressa, just small things really lit fires for her!  A step a little too close, a sweep of fingers across her nape, or the electric blue of his gaze sent her hormones into a tizzy! What a delicious build up!

I’ve been excited to pick up Contradictions after enjoying the first two books in the Woodfall Girls series, Misunderstandings is still my favorite, but Contradictions comes in at a close second.  Tressa’s transformation from shallow, selfish party girl into someone who cared was a satisfying journey. It was a pleasure to witness Tressa awakening to Trent’s appeal and the swoony, sweet romance that followed!  I also appreciated that it was low on the angst scale.

Brandie's Review:

I've really enjoyed this series - the first book in the series, No Attachments, is one of my favorite NA books ever. This final installment in the Woodfalls Girls series was a fun, quick read.

Tressa is a major party girl. She's known for being wild, wreaking havoc every where she goes, even from a young age. She spends her weekends with her roommates jumping from frat party to frat party, basically refusing to grow up.

Trent is a computer genius, who happens to be really hot, but hides behind his geeky glasses and nerdy demeanor. He's attending the same college as Tressa for his masters program, and has harbored feelings for her ever since high school, where they both attended in Woodfalls.

Tressa's partying lifestyle finally catches up with her when her grades take a nose-dive and she needs Trent's help before she gets kicked out of school.

I'm going to be honest and say I disliked Tressa for the first 50% of the book. She was bitchy and her constant name calling almost made me give up on the book. She eventually grew on me, and it helped that I became completely smitten with Trent and how sweet and adorable he was.

As they spend more and more time together, Tressa starts to see Trent in a new light. But she struggles with the fact that she's not good enough for him and may never be.

Even though Tressa grated on my nerves in the beginning, the relationship and slow building romance between her and Trent made it worth reading. A good mix of steamy and sweet, I enjoyed Trent and Tressa's story and the fact that it had minimal angst!

Excerpt:

I knocked on his door, thankful Id had the foresight to grab my gloves before heading out. I was preparing to knock again after he didnt answer when the door suddenly swung open.
My mild shock turned into downright "slap my ass and call me Dixie" surprise when I saw how he was dressed, or rather, undressed would be the more accurate description. He answered the door in nothing more than a towel, rendering me speechless.
My mouth dropped open as I took in the very male sight before me. My suspicions about what lay beneath the endless array of geeky shirts he was so fond of wearing had now been verified. Although, even in my wildest of dreams, Im pretty sure I didnt imagine this. Not that I had wild dreams about him. At least, not all the time.
With the towel knotted around his waist, I had an up-close and personal view of his very defined, and I loathed to admit, very lickable abs. I wasnt even sure "six-pack" was the right word. Running my eyes down his naked torso, Im pretty sure I counted an eight-pack. Eight delicious abs that glistened with droplets of water from the shower he had just stepped out of. My mouth began to water at the sight of him, and Im pretty sure I even swayed a little. I wanted to reach out to feel if his muscles were as firm as they looked. God, the things I could do that chest, I thought.
"Hey, youre early," he greeted me, using an extra towel to dry his hair. His words were like a torrent of cold water splashed on my face. I took an unsteady step backward. If he only knew how close I had come to reaching out and touching him. How could nerdy tee shirts and glasses hide that much hotness? That was the question. Hell, even his hair looked hot now that it was tousled from the towel dry hed given it.
I croaked out an answer that was a garbled mess. He looked at me like Id just fallen off the drunken train. Trying again, I cleared my throat, hoping for something that sounded more coherent. "Too jeep cold," I mumbled, realizing as I was talking that I had effed it up again.
His look turned to puzzlement as he tried to make sense of my rhyme. "Oh, sorry," he finally said, stepping back so I could enter his warm apartment. "Its cold outside," he added, closing the door quickly behind me. I didnt bother to correct him. Better for him to think it was the cold that had my tongue refusing to cooperate than the real reason. Trent didnt need any more encouragement.
I skirted around him. Distance was my only ally at the moment.
"Howd your test go yesterday?" he asked, oblivious to the fact that I was secretly wishing for his towel to drop.
For the love of my horny sanity, could you please put on some clothes before I tear my panties off and jump on you? The words bounced around in my head like a rogue Ping-Pong ball. I was practically chanting them.
"Sorry. Ill go get dressed," he said, giving me a strange look.
No way, did I utter that out loud? Please for the love of horny bitches everywhere, tell me that was all in my head. Son of a bitch, I couldnt remember. I was stuck in some hypnotizing dick trance.
I needed to flee the scene while he was in his room getting dressed. That would be the only rational thing to do. Maybe I could tell him I was drunk. By the looks hed been giving me, he probably assumed that already. I could go home and pretend this never happened. The mental image of his very bare chest floated through my dirty mind. My nether regions throbbed. That alone should have me fleeing the apartment like it was on fire. Only, it was me who was on fire. Damn it, Tressa. Get your mind out of the gutter.
"Tressa, you okay?" Trent asked.
I whirled around at the sound of my name. He was dressed, which was disappointing. No, wait. I was relieved. Definitely relieved. Holy monkey balls, my brain was officially broken.
Now would be the opportune time to use the drunken excuse, or even that I was abducted by aliens. He was a man of science. He would definitely buy the alien story. "Im fine, just trying to warm up," I said, taking a deep breath. I was still feeling pretty hot and bothered, but that was for me to know.
"Oh. Let me turn the heat up," he offered.
Little did he know hed already done that.
"I was working out earlier, so I kicked the heat down. I hate being hot while Im lifting weights."
Too late for that. Seriously, I needed to be euthanized. My brain was a total traitor.

"Right," I muttered. "I hate being hot too." God, I still sounded like a blabbering idiot.

Review: Misunderstandings by Tiffany King

Publication Date: May 6th 2014 by Berkley Trade
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

About the book:

Just when she thought things were going up…

Two years after a devastating breakup, Brittni Mitchell has moved on from Justin Avery—or so she tells herself. But when she returns to Seattle for her best friend’s engagement party, Brittni finds herself the victim of a disastrously timed elevator breakdown. She’s trapped with the last person she wants to face, and forced to recount the past she desperately wants to forget.

She’s going to have to look back…

When Brittni left her podunk hometown for a big city college experience at the University of Washington, hooking up with a guy like Justin Avery was not part of her plan. Between Justin’s attention-grabbing tattoos, cigarette smoking, and bad boy attitude Brittni quickly chalked him up as Mr. Wrong.” But his charm was unrelenting, and Brittni’s decision to give Justin a chance quickly turned into the worst choice she ever made.

So that she might be able to move forward.

Now she’s stuck with Justin—literally—and the complicated web of misunderstandings that tied up the truth for two years is about to unravel.

My Thoughts:
Misunderstandings was a second chance romance that pulled my emotions all over the place.  I felt so bad for Brittni and Justin for the pain they endured.  But reconnecting, sorting things out, and falling all over again was so much sweeter after surviving such heartache.

Brittni is back in Seattle for her best friend’s engagement party after leaving two years prior with her heart shattered.  Snagging an elevator her worst nightmare comes true when she gets stuck with the source of her heartbreak, Justin. He was her first and only love until it all went to hell.  Now stuck in the elevator for hours these two have no choice but to confront the events of the past and finally get sorted what really happened.

This story was told in alternating chapters from the past back to the present so we gradually get Brittni and Justin’s history.  How they feel in love to the events that led to the implosion of their relationship.  Brittni was more guarded and reluctant with her feelings.  She was afraid of falling for someone like Justin who was open, affectionate and flirtatious.  He had no shortage of female attention which played into Brittni’s insecurities, but thankfully she got over that eventually.

As the past was revealed, at first I felt kind of sorry for Justin seeing as he was so determined to be with Brittni and it seemed like she was always so hesitant.  But things switched and then I felt really sorry for Brittni. Justin behaved like an ass, but I can’t say I completely blame him with what he thought happened.  Brittni didn’t correct his assumptions, and I can sort of see why she didn’t at first because (highlight for spoiler)she didn’t want Justin changing his decision out of feelings of obligation. (end of spoiler)  She couldn’t see beyond her pain to realize Justin was just as insecure at that point leading him to say hurtful things.  Really this was a series of misunderstandings that were avoidable, but when you looked at both sides you could fully understand both Brittni and Justin’s reasoning.

Being trapped on an elevator was the best thing that could’ve happened to these two, in spite of the pain it dredged up.  I may or may not have shed a tear (or two) when all was revealed…Some of it really hurt. I have to say I couldn’t help but be really pissed at Justin even though, logically I could understand.  Getting everything out in the open put them on the road to healing their wounds, and led them back to each other.  I was thrilled with how it all worked out!

I loved Misunderstandings even more than No Attachments. Tiffany King brilliantly captured the heartache and loss felt when love ends badly and then replaced it with the high of finding that love again!  I can’t wait for bad girl Tressa’s story with geeky Trent next in Contradictions!

TIFFANY KING

Available August 25, 2014

Twenty-two-year-old historical romance writer Nicole Blake, or N.S. Blake to her readers, hasn't taken an official poll, mind you, but she is convinced she may be the only romance author on the planet who is still a card-carrying member of the virgin club.
Not that she hasn't tried to end her membership. Life just keeps finding pesky ways to interfere. With no prospects on the horizon, Nicole begins to feel like the closest she will ever get to experiencing a man is within her own stories.
Opportunity presents itself in the form of hot-as-sin-on-a-lollipop-stick bartender/premed student Alec Petropoulos, who agrees to be the cover model for her upcoming book. Sparks fly instantly between them, and Nicole begins to entertain the possibility that she's finally found the right guy to hand over her tattered V-card. Alec has all the makings for a perfect one-night-stand candidate except, much to Nicole's surprise, he seems to be the only man in existence not interested in bagging a virgin.
Stuck between a rock and a stubborn male, what's a virgin to do? Seduce him, of course. How hard could it be? If it works for the characters in her stories, why wouldn't it work for her?
After all, what happens under the cover…stays under the cover.

Review: No Attachments by Tiffany King

Publication Date: April 30th 2013 by Penguin Group
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

** Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations, language and mature subject matter **

Ashton Garrison walked away from a privileged life in order to hide from the one thing she's not willing to face. She knows she left behind a trail of pain, but in the long run, her betrayal will hurt less than the truth. She now has one goal: Live life to the fullest with no regrets and no attachments. She has high hopes that a move to new surroundings will provide the escape she desires, but what Ashton doesn't count on is how fate always seems to find a way to screw up any good plan. Sometimes, when love comes knocking, the pull is too strong not to answer. Suddenly, what she thought she wanted to escape from is what Ashton now wants more than anything.

Nathan Lockton has one mission: find his target and complete the task he was hired to do—no attachments and no emotion necessary. He's done it over and over again. What he thought was a typical lost-and-found job has turned into a life examining moment as Nathan is forced to deal with something he has always ignored--his feelings. Now faced with a decision, Nathan must choose to either follow his heart or complete the job.

Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you love?

My Thoughts:
This was a sweet love story mixed with great chemistry and humor.

Ashton and Nathan have instant an attraction and Ashton means to take advantage of that by having a one-night stand with Nathan. A one-night-stand is an item she has marked on a "bucket-list," and Nathan is the perfect candidate to tick off that box. He's a stranger, few and far between in the small town she lives in, he's hot, sweet, and doesn't want a commitment any more than Ashton does. Unfortunately, things don't go according to plan, and what was supposed to be one night turns out to be an affair with funny mishaps along the way.

Unbeknownst to Ashton, meeting Nathan was not a chance encounter. Nathan was hired by someone to track Ashton down when she disappeared. He doesn't know why she disappeared but he decides to find out her secret before turning her in, and again, things don't go according to plan.

I have to say I was completely taken by surprise when I found out the reason Ashton ran. Bowled over. I usually like to have a warning when reading about this subject, because it's something that hits close to home. But I enjoyed the story in spite of expecting something completely different. It was very sweet, touching, and heartfelt. Did I mention hot? Yes, there was that too!

My Review:

It’s no secret that No Attachments was one of my favorite books read last year and I love Tiffany King’s writing.  Imagine how excited I was to read the next installment to the Woodfalls Girls series!  And I was not disappointed.  A very emotional and wonderful story that I enjoyed immensely!

What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator for hours with your ex?  An ex who you were hopelessly in love with, possibly still are,  and who crushed you completely and still openly hates you.

Over the course of several hours while Brittni and Justin are stuck in an elevator together, Tiffany King tells us the story of how they met and what led them to the situation they’re in today.  She takes us back and forth from past to present giving us just enough insight to keep us hooked and wanting more.  Each chapter leaves us in suspense, waiting for the big misunderstanding that tore these two apart and caused so much pain and heartbreak.  I loved the buildup and how the story unfolded – it was brilliant!

I was an emotional wreck while reading this book – I’d go from swooning over Justin’s sweetness to rage and heartbreak over their gut-wrenching situation.  And the sexy times – although very understated – had my heart racing!  Tiffany King has a way with words and her books just flow seamlessly.

I really fell for both Justin and Brittni.  Justin is the tattooed misunderstood guy who’s actually a complete sweetheart, while Brittni is witty and snarky and someone I could totally relate to.  Together they are an amazing couple and as the pieces of their story come together, you start questioning everything – constantly wondering if these two will be able to find forgiveness and how they move on from here.  The suspense of the unknown is what kept me glued to the pages of this book.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading a book by Tiffany King and are in need of a good New Adult read – I highly recommend adding her books to your list!

Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you love?

My Thoughts:
One of the best New Adult books I've read - absolutely loved this one!! First of all I have to thank the author and Inkslinger for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I am forever grateful because this book is now a favorite of mine!

Ashton is on the run from her past, having moved to a small town with a bucket list of things she wants to do in her lifetime. Not once did I ever figure out what exactly it was that she was running from and the suspense kept me dying to read more and figure her out. In the few months she’s been in town, she has made a few friends who are wonderful to her, including the owner of the general store where she works.

A night out with her two friends presents an opportunity to cross off one of the items on her list – to have a one-night-stand. And the lucky guy she targets is Nathan. A guy who claims he’s a journalist just passing through town on his hunt for a story, when in reality he’s been hired by a man to find Ashton and disclose her whereabouts . Their first night ‘together’ proves to be a flop – but there’s something about Ashton that keeps Nathan from turning her in and leaving town. Even though he’s sworn off women and relationships – there’s something different about her that calls to him and makes him want to know her better and find out the real reason behind her running away.

Neither one of them are interested in a relationship – both having past issues that prevent them from ever wanting to fall in love. So they agree on a ‘no attachments’ affair – that will quickly turn out to be more than they bargained for. When they start to realize their feelings are stronger than planned, a chain of events occur that challenge their love and relationship – stemming from what Nathan is really doing in town and what Ashton has been hiding from him.

I will say that although it sounds like serious angst – it’s written in a way that doesn’t drag it out and made it bearable for me. Also – what some would consider an ‘insta-love’ really didn’t feel like that to me. They date each other and their times together seemed so real to me that I never felt it was a rushed relationship. I am a big believer in finding love quickly, whether you want to admit that’s what it is, and once you have that – you don’t want to spend another minute without it or that person. Nathan and Ashton made me believe in their love and their relationship. It was beautiful, romantic, often comical and so amazing that I had a smile on my face the entire time I read this book.

Not to mention Nathan is SWOON-WORTHY. He was an incredible character written to perfection. The way he tried so hard to win Ashton over, often failing miserably with their disastrous and hilarious few dates. But he never gave up and when things got difficult, he showed his true feelings and commitment and completely melted and won my heart several times over. And I can’t forget the total chemistry these two had together – it was very hot and steamy! When they finally have their moment, it did not disappoint.
And Ashton is a kick-ass heroine who doesn’t whine or get annoying ONE TIME! I loved her! She’s hilarious, and despite having gone through some serious heartache in her life – she is fun and upbeat and just made me smile.

I can’t begin to say how much I loved every single minute of this book. The story unfolded so beautifully and sucked me in immediately that I didn’t want to put it down. I felt so many different emotions while reading it – especially at the point in the book where it threw me for a loop. Not only was it a wonderful romance with enough steam thrown in – there were some serious laugh-out-loud moments. The banter between Ashton and Nathan was perfect and so realistic. And the tender and serious moments were a total surprise that I was not expecting going into reading this book – but made it all the more wonderful! I wanted to weep at times because these two were so PERFECT together and I was cheering them on to get their HEA.

A MUST READ - make sure to get your copy asap!
