Sunday Post #88

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

I took an unscheduled mini blog break, so I've been out of things the last week and half. I was out of state, back in Montana last week for a fun filled time of pool, skeet shooting, and horseback riding. It was nice to be away from the horrible heat wave and smoke.
I'm currently back in California and the smoke is better, but the heat is still pretty bad. At home it's supposed to be 114 today and 113 tomorrow. I'm up north at my daughter's house and it's a little better, but still pretty hot. We're supposed to have a high of 106 today and 107 tomorrow. It was much cooler yesterday so I took advantage of that and went on a six-mile hike:

Smoky view-In the center is one large oak tree! It's huge!

Cute cows along the way. This is a baby.

World War Z was a fun listen, but I liked the movie better. Loved Emerald Blaze, Thick as Thieves, and my re-read of Silence Fallen.

I just started the audio and I'm liking it so far.

How was your week?

  1. I don't know how people live in places that hot. I know, dry heat, but still 107 is hot. Glad Montana was fun.

  7. Looks like you took your mini-trips at a good time. Whew! That's cooking.
Quite the oak tree. I imagine it looks monstrous size up close.

Fun reading week. I still have Sapphire Flame and then I can get to Emerald Blaze.

    Try to stay cool, Rachel!

    1. It was huge and I wasn't sure it was all one tree until I got close and crouched down to see all the branches underneath. It was impressive!

      Thanks, Sophia Rose!

  9. I'm glad you were able to go on a trip and enjoy it. I love horseback riding. But we are still not comfortable going out that much. I don't know how you are standing that heat and a 6 mile hike! Thanks for joining in our Read-along. I'm excited for the next one; it'a a big battle.

    1. I understand your hesitancy. Maybe I don't feel that as much because I've never really stopped going out because I've always had to still go to work like normal. Well, if you call wearing 500 million masks and sanitizing the hell out of everything all the time normal, that is.

Friday was a lot cooler up north and I knew it was going to heat up a lot more Saturday and Sunday so I took advantage of the nicer weather temps in the am and went hiking. No way I would do it in triple digit weather!

  10. The heat sounds miserable. It was brutal here last week but a bit cooler this week so I'm thankful for that. I've only posted on my blog once in the past two weeks and I'm not sure when I'll post next. I simply haven't felt like it. So I understand the little break. Hope your week is off to a good start, Rachel!

    1. I'm glad it's not only me that feels a little unmotivated with blogging right now. I'm not sure what it is. The heat, the depressing ugly smoke filled sky? Whatever it is, it took me a lot just to write a lackluster review for a book I really liked just so I could get it posted! Oh well. Glad to hear you're having a bit better weather. We were 10 degrees cooler today, thank goodness!

    1. Yes! Thankfully it was cooler today! Montana was lovely and there is a reason they call it "Big Sky" Montana. The blue sky is gorgeous and seems to go on forever.
