Review: The Raven Prince (Prince #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt

The Raven Prince (Princes #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt

There comes a time in a lady's life…

Widowed Anna Wren is having a wretched day. After an arrogant male on horseback nearly squashes her, she arrives home to learn that she is in dire financial straits.

When she must do the unthinkable…

The Earl of Swartingham is in a quandary. Having frightened off two secretaries, Edward de Raaf needs someone who can withstand his bad temper and boorish behavior.

And find employment.

When Anna becomes the earl's secretary, it would seem that both their problems are solved. Then she discovers he plans to visit the most notorious brothel in London for his "manly" needs. Well! Anna sees red—and decides to assuage her "womanly" desires...with the earl as her unknowing lover.

My Thoughts
The Raven Prince was an enchanting historical romance that was filled with zany characters, loveable protagonists and ongoing drama that was never high handed or overdone.

Edward, Lord Swartingham, not only lost his entire family to small pox, but the deadly virus left him scarred at a very young age. After years of looking after his family’s land and carrying the sole title, he hopes to marry and have children so he may pass on his legacy.

Anna Wren has been widowed for over seven years, and she finds herself in need of taking on a job to sustain herself and her mother-in-law. When she becomes the secretary for Edward, they begin to fall in love. When Edward decides to leave for London to relieve some stress, Anna can’t bear the fact that he’ll fall into the arms of another woman. So, she calls a favor from one of her friends to get her into Aphrodite’s Grotto and under the guise of a mask she meets Edward for a night of passion.

The chemistry between Anna and Edward was absolutely off the charts! I loved how these two interacted with one another. Seeing how Anna handled Edward's moody ways with a gentle hand was absolutely endearing. I enjoyed watching the many ways Edward showed how much he cared for Anna. In return, I liked seeing Anna’s independent side, which at times gave Edward a run for his money. These two characters were a perfect pair.

In addition, The Raven Prince story at the beginning of each chapter was something I found myself looking forward to. I enjoyed how we got tidbits of this legend and how it weaved into the main story. By the final chapters, I’m glad Hoyt brought this secondary story to completion.

Anna and Edward were a lovely pair. Their chemistry felt real and their story flowed nicely. Loved how Hoyt wrapped it all up at the end. Great story with a tone of depth and layer after layer of good story-telling! Enjoyable read!!
