Sunday Post #239

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.

This has been a busy and rainy week.  I had work as usual and also had a doctors appointment for my wrist/elbow problem, which was basically a visit so I could get a referral to a specialist. I went to the garden center even though it was pouring to see if they had a rose variety I wanted (Savannah Sunbelt) before I ordered it online because even with a 20% coupon code, it was pricey. They didn't but I bought two roses that I wanted for the rose garden I have planned to go in this spring. Anyone have recommendations for a yellow rose or dark red?

It's supposed to rain a ton today, so I'll be staying home and reading and finishing the puzzle below.

    1. We had the sun peek out for like two minutes and then the rain started up again, lol. We had lightening and explosive thunder last night! I didn't get much sleep. It was good! And thanks, I hope you do, too!

  2. I never did actual roses only shrub roses. I love the knockout roses here but they get horrible diseases here in NC. Staying home sounds good to me. I just finished The Search Party and it had some twists. This week I read the next WTZ.

    1. I love having roses to cut for arrangements in the house and I love the way they smell. I had a few in Southern California but not a lot of space to plant all the ones I've wanted to. I have a good amount of space here so I finally get to have nice size rose garden. I hope you liked The Search Party! I look forward to your thoughts. I'll probably start WTZ this next weekend.

  3. I am impressed by anyone who has the patience to grow roses. To me they seem too fussy — like the one in “The Little Prince.” Good luck with the doctor visits.

    1. They're actually not that fussy. Once they get a spot they like you just fertilize every so often and deadhead. I love them! Thanks!

  4. My mom tried and tried to grow roses here, but people who knew a lot about them said that we were too humid here for good roses. She did pretty well, but after she passed away, the roses slowly disappeared, too.

The Ladies Rewrite the Rules looks like a wonderful read!

    1. Yes, I do think the humidity would be a problem. Humidity is nice for a lot of other flowers, though, but they'd have to be able to take the heat you get in Texas! Bougainvillea should do nicely out there.

  5. I hope the specialist will help you with your wrist/elbow problem Rachel! I had some tendinitis one year ago and it's not pleasant at all!

  6. I hope the specialist is able to help you with your wrist/elbow problem. I know it's best to have your primary care doctor refer you to a specialists because that's their job. I just hate having to have two appointments, one not really doing much.

Have fun with your puzzle and have a great week!

  8. A rainy day is a good day to read a book. That's what I plan on doing today.

  9. I have The Search Party to read, I just haven’t been in The mood for it. I was really hoping for a copy of Bride though.

Wishing you a happy reading week

  10. No idea about roses. I do love looking at them though

  11. Isn't the Mister Lincoln a dark red rose? We had a fire and ice rose once that was both red and white and very pretty, but never just a deep red rose.

    1. It is and it's one I need to research as it's at my garden center. I like the Fire and Ice rose too.

    1. Thank you! I liked Raiders, but didn't love it. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it, Sam! I'd much rather hear that than a bad reaction to a book. :)

  13. We have a rose bush that is sort of sprawling, I need t prune it this spring. I think the rabbits or something are living under it.

The New Couple in 5B sounds great. Like Mother as well. All the thrillers :)

    1. Yes, I need to prune my roses in the spring, too. You should post a picture when it's blooming. I'd love to see it! I'm loving the thrillers lately, Greg!

  14. Love that you got a trip in to the garden center to start planning for spring. Looking forward to pics of your rose garden in bloom like your fun puzzle. Perfect way to spend a rainy day. Hope your wrist/arm pain get some relief now that you have the green light for the specialist.

    Have a good week, Rachel!

    1. I'm so looking forward to spring! I have so many planting plans. I'll be starting some seeds indoors this year to get a jump on it. I got the referral and the specialist is supposed to call with some dates. Hope it helps. You have a good week, too, Sophia!

  15. It sometimes seems like a waste of time to have to go see the doctor just for a referral to see another doctor. I hope you don't have to wait long to see the specialist. I really want to read The Ladies Rewrite the Rules and am glad you liked it! I hope you enjoy your new books. They all sound good. I keep seeing Bride everywhere. I hope you have a great week!

  22. I don't know anything about roses other than I loooove them and that my mom had a red rambling rose BUSH and a white one and the deer ate all the red ones and left all the white ones. :-D

  23. The Ladies Rewrite the Rules sounds like a good one! I hope you enjoy Bride as much as I did. I can't grow anything. If it grows wild in my yard from someone else planting it before I moved in, then I leave it alone so it will keep doing that, lol. Hope you've had a good week!
