People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
Publication Date: May 11th 2021 by Berkley Books
Alex and Poppy meet in college but couldn’t feel more different. Poppy is free-spirited and chaotic, and Alex is reserved and ordered. You’d never put these two together and yet they bond on a drive back to their shared hometown. They strike up an unlikely friendship spanning over a decade. Despite their differences, they just click, get each other like no one else does. Two puzzle pieces that snap together and fit snug. However, two years ago on their yearly Summer vacation emotions run high and they have a falling out. Alex and Poppy haven’t talked since and it’s like an aching hole in Poppy’s chest. Poppy’s so miserable in life she decides to just bite the bullet and contact Alex, propose a Summer vacation to get back what they’ve lost.
Right away it’s apparent that Poppy and Alex always had a connection beyond friends and my heart hurt from the palpable longing between them! One moment, I just wanted to shove the characters together to put everyone out of their misery, and the next I was laughing my head off over all the hilarity on the page! Poppy and Alex’s friendship beyond the attraction was quirky, and fun. Their conversations just so random. The story was seriously sooo funny at times! I have so many bookmarks!
People We Meet on Vacation was a perfect balance of heart-achy romance, clever humor, and sexy buildup! Oh-my-heart, when they finally figure it all out! Swoon! Total recommend!
Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.
Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.
Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.
Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.
Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?
