Deep in Crimson (Return to Sanctuary #2)
Deep in Crimson by Sarah Gilman
Published on September 24, 2013 by Entangled Select
About the book
Kidnapped by humans and raised in a research facility, Jett was taught to believe his own race of demons insidious and violent. But a friendship with the archangel Raphael shatters Jett’s reality. Caught between two worlds, his first months of freedom find him lingering on the fringes of his home colony, Sanctuary.

When the human who stole Jett captures another demon youth from Sanctuary, Jett learns of the real plan—to steal Raphael’s archangel grandchildren. Jett wants to bring his captor to justice, but he must overcome the lies from his past and join forces with the demon Guardians, and the demon child’s older sister, Lexine.

Irresistible attraction grows between Jett and Lexine, but Lexine’s prophetic dreams of being mated to a poacher make her wary. And if Jett goes through the all-consuming process of becoming a Guardian, he may forfeit any chance they have of being together.

Excerpt!
Warm weight settled against her side and over her shoulders. Jett sat in the grass with her, flames licking down his arms. He lifted her and resettled them in a private corner created by the stone steps and the wall, and she didn’t protest. She gave in to the hypnotic comfort of the fire and leaned against him.

“You are strong, Lexine.”

Had she expressed that doubt out loud? She wiped at her face and held her breath in an attempt to dam the sobs.

He shook his head, his chin rubbing against her hair. “Let it out. You won’t feel better until you do.”

God help her, she did as he said. She gripped his jacket and set her grief free. Sobs shook her body, choked her throat, and continued until the sodden place they seeped from ran dry. She pulled away long enough to clean her face with tissues from her pockets. Steadied by Jett’s embrace, she shut her eyes and breathed in his scent. His flames caressed her cheek.

An owl lifted off from the mausoleum roof and disappeared over the trees in startled flight. Much larger silhouettes followed a moment later as the archangels headed home, the rustle of their feathers a harsh sound in the still night. She’d lost all track of time, but the colony’s vigil traditionally broke up at one in the morning.

Lexine leaned away. “Shouldn’t you be following them?”

“Lark cut me loose for the rest of the evening. My presence with the family tonight was more ceremonial than anything else. My training starts at dawn.”

“Well, congratulations.” She couldn’t keep the bitterness out of her voice.

“Why does my decision upset you?”

“Because you seem intent on getting yourself killed.”

“They offered me a purpose that will outlast Lawrence. I accepted.”

“After not even speaking to anyone for months?” She sighed, gripping his shoulders. “Don’t get me

wrong. I’m thrilled you’re joining the community, but a Guardian?”

“For the archangels.”

“That’s worse.”

“Why?”

“Because there’s nothing more dangerous.”

Welcome to our weekly edition of Waves of Sunday where each Sunday we spotlight a book that has been making waves in the book scene or has simply caught our attention causing a riptide on our TBR.

Today we are spotlighting:

Crash Into Me (A Shaken Dirty Novel)

Crash into Me (A Shaken Dirty Novel) by Tracy Wolff
Expected Publication Date: October 7th by Entangled: Brazen
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

About the book:
Jamison Matthews has lusted after Ryder Montgomery since she was a preteen. But now that Ryder and her brother's band, Shaken Dirty, has made it huge, she's just one of many pining for the brooding lead singer. Too bad Ryder still sees her as a little sister. Not that it matters. Her brother would never allow it, and the last thing Jamison wants is to be another notch on a rock star's bed post. Even if it's Ryder's.

Ryder doesn't deserve happiness. After his fame destroyed his last girlfriend, he swore he'd never fall in love again. So when Jamison, the girl he's been in danger of loving for years, joins the band on the road, he'll do anything to deny the sparks between them--even after one hot night together. But Jamison is determined to show Ryder that he's worthy of love--her love--and that she's all grown up and ready to play.

Rachel's Thoughts:
Well, I have to be honest and say the first thing that caught my eye was that cover!! O_O
Yes, please! I'm always a little worried about rocker romances, but this one sounds like my cup of tea.  Jamison's long time crush on her brother's best friend, who just now happens to be a huge rock star sounds all kinds of promising!  It sounds like Ryder has had a bit of a thing for Jamison as well making their romance full of longing on both sides! Win!

Crystal's Thoughts:
Number one the cover is hot!  Number two Ryder sounds hot and number three the story sounds hot!  I don't need to know anything else lol!!  This definitely sounds like my type of book and I can't wait to dive in!!

Brandie's Thoughts:
Sounds HOT! I love books about old crushes resurfacing and add the bonus of him being a rockstar - I definitely want to read this one!

Review: Undressed by Avery Aster

Undressed (The Manhattanites, #1)

Undressed (Manhattanites #1) by Avery Aster
Publication Date: February 15th 2013 by Ellora's Cave
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & NobleKobo

About the book:
Book 1 in The Manhattanites series.

Milan’s notorious playboy, Prince Tittoni, seems to have everything—Lamborghinis, exotic women, palaces throughout Europe and business success. Ramping up his fabric company to go global with a new apparel brand, he ruthlessly stops supplying fabrics to the American client who inspired the collection. But once they meet, what’s he willing to give to get her in his bed?

Upper East Side designer Lex Easton has already endured her fair share of hard knocks. She’ll be damned if she’ll let an Italian stud muffin knock her down. So what if she named her favorite vibrator after him? With Fashion Week approaching, she’ll do whatever it takes to secure the fabrics she needs to make her clothing line an international success—even sleep with her rival.

Lex’s Louboutins are dug in deep to win this war. All’s fair in love and fashion!

Inside Scoop: Though the hero and heroine remain monogamous, their Prada-wearing friends indulge in a ménage a trois and other fashionable sexual fun and games.

My Thoughts:
If you want a fun, over the top romance with plenty of sass, and fiery HOT scenes that’ll burn your panties right off you, Undressed is the read for you!

Lex Easton is the owner and designer of Easton Essentials, a popular luxury brand clothing line for women.  When the fabrics she needs to form her new line for Fashion Week are not delivered she places a call to the factory, Girasoli Garment Company and finds out the order was canceled due to lack of payment.  Lex offers to rectify, but with the owner, Prince Tittoni on vacation at his private island, they won’t release the shipment.  She gets no where over the phone and these fabrics mean the continuation of her business or the death.  So Lex gets on a plane to beg the Prince Massimo Tittoni.  Her mouth waters just thinking about this gorgeous specimen of a man.  He’s in the society and gossip pages, in all his royal glory, and YES I do mean in ALL his royal glory!

Massimo meets Lex when she arrives at his island to get her fabrics, and he is immediately intrigued.  She’s gorgeous, a Charlize Theron look alike, but with a fierce determination to keep her company going.  Unfortunately for her, Masi has other plans for his fabric.  Seeing how successful Easton Essentials is with sales he has decided to stop selling to them, and produce his own designs to sell. He’s got another thing coming, though, if he thinks Lex will just lie down and take it.

Massimo and Lex had intense chemistry, and this romance was all kinds of fun because their relationship started off so antagonistically.  Lex was a heroine I immediately loved.  She was the daughter of a famous rocker and 80’s Playmate mother.  So she’s no stranger to drama and publicity and wants nothing of it personally.  Her father committed suicide, and left her with nothing but debt, so Easton Essential is something she built up with her own blood, sweat, and tears.  You’ve got to admire a girl that turns her life around so successfully, without trying to cash in on her daddy’s name.

Massimo comes off as a major jerk at first, and I wanted to smack him in the beginning.  Of course, that didn’t last for long.  He charmed and wormed his way into Lex’s heart right along with mine as the story enfolded.  Didn’t hurt that I had David Gandy (Gandy candy, baby!) pictured the whole time I was reading about this Italian stallion!  Masi once smitten by Lex can’t/won’t let go.

Undressed was SERIOUSLY HOT!  I think our signature panty warning applies: WARNING: Panties might ignite upon reading.  Whoa!  I’ll give you a small taste, the tip of the iceberg:

She fell against the sofa, where he shoved her sundress up around her waist. He studied her lacy thong. She loved him looking, more than ever when he ground his hips against her, “Sei bellissima,” he murmured, nuzzling her earlobes. “Do you know how beautiful you are?”
“Tell me again and again,” she joked, getting more at ease with his compliments.  Massimo’s words echoed in her ear.
“I told you the dress looked good on you. I bet it will look even better off you.” He grinned.

Undressed had me laughing in so many parts with it’s over the top humor.  Lex’s inner dialogue is witty, snarky, and outrageous.  That girl has a mouth on her which Masi laments more than few times!  All part of her charm.

Avery Aster knocked me out with this addictive read which left a big smile on my face when I finished.  I started it pretty late thinking I’d only read a few chapters and I ended up reading into the wee hours of the morning!  This made the giggling a little problematic with my husband asleep next to me.  I can’t wait to pick up the next in the serious, Unscrupulous which stars Taddy Brill, one of
Lex’s close friends.

A Perfect Mess (A Perfect Secret #1)
A Perfect Mess(A Perfect Secret #1) by Zoe Dawson
Publication Date: August 5th 2013 by Blue Moon Creative
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble
About the book:
I know what you did last summer.

Aubree Walker, the perfect girl most likely to succeed, is sure there’s only one person who knows what she did.

Booker Outlaw, one of the three Outlaw brothers—all identical, all gorgeous, all from the wrong side of the tracks, and all pure bad boys. He was always the unpredictable one, the one who would be brash enough to make it big self-publishing horror novels on the internet. He promised never to tell, but everyone knows you can never trust an Outlaw.

Then a year later, in the middle of the night, she receives a phone call at Tulane. Her aunt, who took her in after her mother’s death, is in a coma under suspicious circumstances. Now she has to face that one person who knows all about what she did that summer—sexy Booker.

Returning to Hope Parish to be with her aunt, stirs up all those ugly memories. When Aubree starts getting threats, she can’t help but wonder if what she did last summer was tied to her aunt’s “accident.” Afraid, she turns to the only person who knows the truth and Booker doesn’t hesitate to offer his broad shoulder for her to lean on. But Booker has a secret of his own that could crush their fledgling relationship.

As the hot, sultry summer days move on, she finds that even a perfectly smart girl can lose her heart to a perfectly bad boy. What is she going to do when someone starts asking questions Aubree doesn’t want to answer? She’s knee deep into a terribly dangerous, wholly life changing, who-can-she-really-depend-on perfect mess.

My Thoughts:
I LOVED A Perfect Mess!!  It was an addictive blend of smoking HOT romance, sassy dialogue, fun sibling snark, and suspense.  Love me them Outlaw Brothers!!

Aubree had been away at college for the last nine months.  Away from her Aunt Lottie, her friends and Booker Outlaw, her unrequited crush *sigh*.  She’s stayed away because of one terrible night that haunts her to this day.  Booker is the only one who knows what happened and without his help, Aubree doesn’t know how she would’ve survived.

When an accident puts her beloved Aunt Lottie in the hospital, and in a coma under suspicious circumstances, Aubree rushes home.  Her Aunt provided unconditional love and security for years and Aubree can’t bear the thought of losing her.  Her heart skips a beat or two knowing that she’ll be running into Booker.

Aubree and Booker have had it bad for each other for years, but each of them have held back for different reasons.  But with Aubree being threatened as soon as she comes back home, Booker appoints himself as her protector and won’t leave her side.  Of course this makes their mutual attraction intensify, and pretty soon it’s no use fighting what was meant to be.

“Don’t you want to touch me?” I asked.  She blushed and looked away.
“Only for about a million years.”
I spread my hands. “Then touch me. Wherever, however you want.”

Oh, I loved these two together!

Oh my lord, these Outlaw Brothers will be the death of me!  I can handle one smoking hot bad boy (maybe), but three?!!  Triplets, Booker, Braxton, and Boone, all identical with electric blue eyes, shaggy black hair, and muscles in all the right places. Couple that with their sassy but sweet words uttered in a Southern accent, and I’m a puddle of goo on the floor.  Every time Booker called Aubree “sugar” I went a little weak in the knees!  These boys are close, and their teasing and camaraderie was a treat to read.  I love close sibling relationships, and the Outlaw Brothers lent support and love to each other with a little snarkiness thrown in for laughs.

I adored the setting of Louisiana with its rich Southern culture.  I felt like I was experiencing the warm sultry nights by the bayou right along with Booker and Aubree.  There was a great cast of secondary characters, as well: Booker’s brothers, and Aubree’s Aunt, and her friends, round out the story, and gave a glimpse into the future companion novels.  This story centered on Booker and Aubree, but it set up coming romances for Boone and Brax.  I believe Holy Mary Verity, the reverend’s daughter, and Boone will be next.  I seriously can’t wait!

This was my first read by Zoe Dawson, but it definitely will not be my last!  She cleverly combined all the things I love in a romance: chemistry, humor, and spice.  With the addition of mystery and danger, this made for one hell of an addictive read!

Review: Torn by Kim Karr

Torn (Connections, #2)
Torn by Kim Karr
Publisher: Penguin Group
Release Date: October 1, 2013
About the book
Rock star River Wilde brought Dahlia London back from the brink of hopelessness with his unwavering love and devotion. But their entangled history is about to test the strength of their relationship…

Dahlia was certain she had found true love and met her "Once in a Lifetime’ when she reconnected with River. But Dahlia’s world comes crashing down when someone from her past resurfaces, and all of River’s carefully hidden secrets are exposed.

River wants to show Dahlia that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass—it’s about dancing in the rain. But how many times can one broken heart be mended?  Will River and Dahlia be able to stay together or will they be torn apart?
Arlene's Review
Torn is the second installment in the Connections series, which completes the story for Dahlia, River and Ben. And, if you read the first book, you’ll remember the epic cliffhanger Kim Karr left us with when she closed her story with that head-bang worthy journal entry/epilogue. I knew that as soon as I had access to this next book, I was going to jump right in to see how these characters dealt with the blows that were headed their way.

In Torn, Dahlia and River face the aftermath of discovering that Ben is still alive. Just when River and Dahl were about to seal their relationship with a huge commitment step… ahem… ahem think ring and an altar…. Ben comes back into the picture and he stops at nothing to try and get his girl back. This story was filled with endless drama and emotional turmoil to the point where I felt it became a bit much. Quickly into the book, there seemed to be turmoil just for the sake of propelling the story forward with no real direction in mind.

Overall, I liked these characters to a mild degree, but each one was flawed in a way that stopped me from embracing them to the fullest. Dahlia seemed to look for things to be upset about to the point where I just wanted to tell her to sit back, relax and reflect before making hasty decisions and saying things she’d regret. I still can't grasp the fact that she was over Ben so completely. I mean this was the guy she grieved for two years. She perplexed me quite a bit! Also, I’m sure I won’t be the only one to suspect that River has anger issues. I get that he has reason to be upset about certain situations, but resorting to violence and alcohol leaves much to be desired where I’m concerned. Lastly… Ben… boy would I love to read his journal entries in their entirety. He was one twisted cupcake!

Overall, I was somewhat satisfied with the twists and turns the story took despite the head-spin I got from the drama. I was left a bit perplexed about Caleb’s purpose in the book. I truly thought his storyline was going somewhere until it suddenly didn’t. I’m thinking he might be positioned for his own series later??? I don’t know…

Well Kim Karr did a great job in making me pine for Torn with her painful cliffy from Connected, but in the end, I feel this installment fell a bit short of my expectations. Entertaining, but not without its fair share of flaws.

Final note: Who is that girl on the book cover??? Dahlia is blond. That is all..

Crystal's Thoughts:
Connected had one of the worst cliffhangers I have ever read.  I am not usually completely blindsided but man after reading that last chapter I was left with a WTF face!  So when I saw Torn on Netgalley I just had to grab it and devour it to see what happened when Dahlia found out Ben was alive. I guess I kind of got what I wanted, but this book which looking back and remembering the first one is filled with way too many "I Love You More's" than the drama that I craved.

Ben being alive was HUGE!  I never expected him to come back and when I started this book I just knew there was going to be some DRAMA!  What we get though is small drama and the drama that I really wanted to delve more into got sidelined by Dahlias and Rivers need to bite each other and have hot angry sex all over the place.  Oh temper tantrums!  So many tantrums we are grown people!  Sorry got side tracked with a rant...Ben back to Ben first...I know he was gone for three years but Dahlia had to have had some kind of lingering feelings for him.  Did I want her to end up with NO but I wanted her to acknowledge that they were engaged and that yes she still loved him.  What he did was wrong and she had every right to be angry, but they needed to at least talk about what happened.  I just don't think feelings go away like she said they do.  I wanted closure darn it!  Don't get me wrong, Ben was a dog and I thought he was a dog in the first book but I really wanted to see them come to terms with their relationship.  I guess maybe I have read too many NA books were the guys fight for what they want.  Ben didn't really fight, he just let River have her.  And again I didn't want Dahlia to end up with Ben, but I still wanted to see the fight.   Honestly though I didn't care where Dahlia ended up I just didn't want to see River hurt.  He was a great guy who did everything he could to protect her and he didn't deserve to be hurt.

My biggest problem with this book was the overflowing love between Dahlia & River.  I swear of you took out all the pages where they were either confessing their love to each other or deciding that they just needed to talk to each other and tell them they were the one and the happy/angry sex scenes this book would have only been about 50 pages.  I love steam don't get me wrong and River is steamy but I need story too, not just tantrums and sex.  The first book was all about Dahlia coming to terms with the death of Ben and this book was just about her and River becoming stronger in the face of so many obstacles and that I liked but the delivery just wasn't there for me.

Oh and the BIG bomb that was dropped I suspected from the get go so I wasn't surprised but I am surprised that it was swept under the rug.  What's the point in bringing up a life altering situation if it is just going to be forgotten ten pages later?  Maybe it will be brought up in the next book which is Xanders but I highly doubt it.   This series is going to be long and the next book is about Xander which I am not sure I am excited about. I am not a fan of his so I will have to think about reading his book.

Author Spotlight: Interview & Giveaway: Iris Blaire

Exposure (East Park, #1)   Dark Frame (East Park, #2)

Back in August I read and reviewed Exposure (East Park #1) (my reviewby Iris Blaire, which was a tantalizingly sensual read!!   I was intrigued by the original story line which followed Evan, a reluctant star of a college erotic magazine working incognito.  She ends up paired with Dallas, a hottie with a brain, and with their combustible chemistry the sparks fly!

With the second book in this series, Dark Frame (East Park #2), release date around the corner (November 12th), I was eager to have Iris on the blog to pick her brain about what inspired her to write this story and let us know what we can expect from the sequel.  Be sure to scroll down at the end of this post to enter the rafflecopter for a chance to win Exposure.  It’s a must read!

Interview:

Q: The premise of Exposure is such a fresh and original story, IMO.  What inspired you to write it?

To be honest, I came across a news article one day while browsing the web that was about a college-run porn magazine and the steps required by the students to make the project an official school organization. I was completely fascinated by the story and knew that it would make a great premise for a novel!

Q: Your bio says you’re a recent college graduate; did you have an erotic magazine circulating like East Park Exposed while in college?  If so can you tell us a little about it, and the models?

There wasn’t any kind of campus erotic magazine that I was aware of, but my campus was a big one, so you never know.

Q: What is your favorite line or scene in the book?

Oh God, I have to pick one? To be honest, my favorite moments are the ones that are awkward or funny. Like when Dallas is trying to be intimate and ends up scorching Evan’s eye with Flaming Hot Cheeto dust. To me, a lot of romance novels come off a bit cheesy because they don’t have enough “real” moments like this one, so I tried to incorporate as many as possible in hopes that readers would connect to my characters.

Q: Which character do you identify with most, or is most like you?

Probably Britain. She’s a big dork like me. And you get to spend more time with her in DARK FRAME! J

Q: The steamy scenes have a wonderful buildup, and really ratchet up the sexual tension without taking it all the way for a while.  Did you find those scenes a challenge to write?

Hell no. Foreplay is so much fun to write, especially when you have a couple of glasses of wine in you. Hah! But seriously, I think a scene involving actual sex is a bit harder, because there’s only so much of a sex scene you can write before it starts to become either mundane or raunchy. Foreplay can be stretched on for pages and still feel fresh. At least, that’s how I feel about it.

Q: What is it about Evan that draws Dallas to her?

I think Evan is still a bit of an enigma to Dallas. She doesn’t fit any of the boxes that she should fit into, such as a softcore pornstar or a biogeek. She’s funny and blunt and comfortable with herself. In the first book, Dallas is still caught up in the physical attraction of her as well.

Q: If you had to cast your characters, who would you pick for Evan and Dallas?

Movie-Evan would have to be Michelle Trachtenberg, and Movie-Dallas… that’s a hard one. Probably like… a brunette, Americanized William Moseley. Have you seen him all grown up? He’s three kinds of gorgeous.

Q: Without being too spoilery, can you tell us anything about the sequel, Dark Frame?  Will this be the conclusion to Dallas and Evan’s story?

It will be the conclusion to Dallas’s and Evan’s love story, but not the East Park characters. And without getting too spoilery, Dark Frame will be sexier, more twisted, and a bit angstier.

Q: Will the story be longer than Exposure?

Yes! That’s definitely the largest complaint I received with Exposure, and I listen to my fans. Dark Frame will be longer.

Q: What influenced you to write and publish?

I’ve had many, MANY influences. But for this book, what influenced me was, again, the finding of that news article about the college-run porn magazine. It was like a light bulb went off in my brain and it seemed like it would be a lot of fun to write, so that’s what I did!

Q: What are you working on now?

The East Park series is getting a couple of companion novels after Dark Frame, and I’m working on those now.

Q: Who is your favorite author, and what is the last book you read?

For romance authors—cute and fluffy reads I’d have to go with Stephanie Perkins, and sexy reads would be Kele Moon.

Q: When you’re not working on your books, how do you like to spend your time?

Enjoying married life! And reading. Tons of reading.

Thank you so much, Iris, for stopping by and answering my questions!  I look forward to Dark Frame and some more Evan and Dallas hotness. I did look up William Moseley, and you’re right, he is all kinds of gorgeous. Yum!

Breaking Nova (Nova #1) by Jessica Sorensen
Publication Date: September 3rd by Forever
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | iTunes

About the book:
Nova Reed used to have dreams-of becoming a famous drummer, of marrying her true love. But all of that was taken away in an instant. Now she's getting by as best she can, though sometimes that means doing things the old Nova would never do. Things that are slowly eating away at her spirit. Every day blends into the next . . . until she meets Quinton Carter. His intense, honey brown eyes instantly draw her in, and he looks just about as broken as she feels inside.

Quinton once got a second chance at life-but he doesn't want it. The tattoos on his chest are a constant reminder of what he's done, what he's lost. He's sworn to never allow happiness into his life . . . but then beautiful, sweet Nova makes him smile. He knows he's too damaged to get close to her, yet she's the only one who can make him feel alive again. Quinton will have to decide: does he deserve to start over? Or should he pay for his past forever?

My Thoughts:
Breaking Nova was an emotional and captivating story.  It’s a darker read but, surprisingly, one that did not depress me.

I should tell you I’m not a fan of stories that glorify drug use or are all about characters on a path of self-destruction.  I read for entertainment for the most part, and a story that depresses or frustrates me does not count for happy entertainment in my book. If Breaking Nova fit that description you would not be reading my review because this would be a “Did Not Finish” for me. Yes, there is a lot of drug and alcohol abuse in this story, but it in no way paints it as a happy way of life, quite the opposite, in fact.

Nova has just finished her first year of college, and is back at home for the summer.  She suffered an unfathomable loss before she left for school, and basically went through her freshman year on autopilot, reeling from sadness and guilt.  When she gets home with her “friend” Delilah, they connect with Delilah’s ex-boyfriend a real gem of a guy *NOT*, Dylan and his roommates.  These boys and Delilah spend each day getting high, dealing and drinking.  Not a good situation for Nova to be around, AT ALL!  This is where she meets Quinton, another sad soul, and they somehow in all this connect in an intense way.

Quinton for his part is even more desolate that Nova.  He lives with all-consuming guilt, grief, and self-loathing.  Quinton used to be the guy you’d want to take home to your parents: good grades, promising future and all around “nice-guy”, but this changed drastically a year ago and he feels he deserves nothing but the self-destructive course he’s on.  In spite of that and a lot of reluctance, he forms a bond with Nova and starts to care about her. Moments of hope, longing, and happiness shine through.

I don’t try to kiss her or feel her up. I just hold her and let our bodies stay linked, wanting to know her and understand her more than I have with anyone since Lexi.  For an instant, I have something to hold on to again, a reason to keep breathing, to live.

I couldn’t have read this story if it weren’t for Nova; a sweet, caring, and lost soul.  She takes a path that isn’t healthy when we meet her (thanks in part to her loser friend Delilah!) but never does she completely give up.  She was strong, and yet, so innocent.  I have to say I was so angry for what Landon put her through! He made a choice that affected everyone who loved him, cutting them deeply.  I was also extremely ticked with Nova’s supposed friend, Delilah.  She knew Nova was sad and depressed and then encouraged her to get high and drink.  Worst idea ever!  A decision like suicide might feel like an attractive option to someone whose inhibitions and clear thinking are stripped away by intoxication! But I wanted to slap Delilah for more than just that!

Breaking Nova made me cry in a few parts, and gave my heart a good squeeze! But I didn’t think it was sad throughout.  Although the romance was not something Quinton and Nova were looking for, it felt genuine and surprisingly hopeful.  There were very heated, swoony moments between these two and I hope everything works out for them in the end.  Nova and Quinton’s story is far from over and very much up in the air.  I foresee a very bumpy road ahead.

Waves of Sunday #45

Welcome to our weekly edition of Waves of Sunday where each Sunday we spotlight a book that has been making waves in the book scene or has simply caught our attention causing a riptide on our TBR.

Today we are spotlighting:

Sweet Surrendering (Surrender Saga, Book One)

Sweet Surrendering by Chelsea M. Cameron
Expected publication: October 17th 2013

About the book:
A one-night stand can sometimes turn into something more...
When Rory Clarke ends up hiring the guy she spent one steamy night with to be her administrative assistant, she's determined to keep things professional. But Lucas Blaine has other plans for her, and it's not going to be easy to keep the boundaries clear between them. If she even wants to...

Rachel's Thoughts:
Wow, this is a change in positions. Usually it's the guy hiring the girl to be the administrative assistant, and holding all the power.  I'm curious to see how this is going to play out with the normal roles reversed.

Brandie's Thoughts:
I agree!  I like seeing an author switch things up a little bit (although I can't help but think of the show Friends and Rachel with her 'hot' assistant.  I admit that the cover definitely grabbed my attention first, LOL.  And the fact that I like this author's writing - I'm excited to try this one out!

This anniversary edition of 'Maybe Baby’ has been condensed from the original book to accommodate those readers who prefer a shorter read. Since the original book was released without fanfare, many readers weren't aware of this wonderful story and the continuation of it in the rest of the Baby Series Lite!

When college student Tylar Preston goes to work for the wealthy Sinclair family stables the summer of her senior year, she quickly meets with unexpected events and the disturbing unraveling of her past. Is her past destined to taint her future?

Pulling Tylar from unspeakable danger, Trey Sinclair, an arrogant high-powered attorney makes it his mission to protect the innocent and unworldly young woman from the dreams that haunt her. Spirited and independent, Tylar proves to be a challenge to the stubborn and unyielding young lawyer. Together their often bumpy journey weaves itself mysteriously, comically, passionately and erotically down a path that promises to engage and move the reader in this emotionally stirring story.

For anyone who has ever been in love or in lust, 'Maybe Baby Lite' will stir those forgotten feelings of passion and emotion within you; making you ageless as you travel the romantic and erotic journey with Tylar and Trey unraveling the secrets of their past.

This book is intended for mature audiences.

My Thoughts:
Maybe Baby Lite was an addictive rollercoaster ride full of chemistry, fiery hot sex, and plenty of drama.

Tylar Preston is a college student paying her way by working at Sinclair Stables with their horses.  Since she’s left home for college she’s been having more and more troubling dreams that call her recollection of her upbringing and her mother into question.  If what she dreams is actually true, her mother is one NASTY piece of work!

While walking one of Sinclair Stables’ prize stallions, Tylar runs into the intense Trey Sinclair, who is not happy at all that she has his horse.  Color her surprised when after a swimming accident where she almost dies, Trey’s the one she wakes up to and he won’t leave her side.  After witnessing Tylar’s accident and her countless nightmares in the hospital, Trey’s protective instincts come out in full force.  And I do mean FULL force! Some of this is not a bad thing because after being released, Tylar starts getting threats from her past, and she needs someone looking out for her!

There is a lot of back and forth with Tylar and Trey because they really push each other’s buttons.   He goes all crazy-alpha-controller, way over board with his protectiveness, and she responds by acting out and pushing him over the edge even more!  She is only twenty and her immaturity shows on more than one occasion, but these two are like crack for each other and they can’t stay away.  Trey is ultra possessive with statements like this:

He whispered softly in my ear, “You’re mine, Tylar. Don’t ever forget that. You’re mine.”

Yet he’s reluctant to make a full on commitment, which, understandably rubbed Tylar the wrong way. I was happy that Tylar didn’t just take this sort of treatment.  The intense feelings these two have for each other makes for irrational actions on both sides.  So, yeah, lots of back and forth, but thankfully none of the drama lasts for too long.  You’ll want to read this with a fan close by because there are fiery HOT scenes a-plenty!

“You’re f**king insatiable, Tylar.”
“What do you plan on doing about that, Trey?” I asked, arching my eyebrow seductively.

And on, and on, and on it goes…Seriously, tip of the iceberg!

Tylar’s mother made me really wish I could strangle a fictional character!  Hateful, horrible, disgusting woman!  Fortunately, we get to know her mostly through flashbacks and nightmares. Unfortunately, with that ending scene, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of her.

This was a highly addictive story with writing that sort of reminded me of the informal and rambling nature you’d find in a Kristen Ashely novel.  That is a compliment because I love her writing. Maybe Baby Lite left Tylar and Trey in a really good place, soaring high from happiness, but their story is far from over.  I’m sure more drama is on the horizon and I can’t wait for all the twists and turns ahead!
