Sunday Post #136

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

This last week was less hectic than the one before. The week after Labor Day was a week from hell at work and then I went up to my daughter's over the weekend. I always want to see the kiddies, but it's always full of activity and not usually restful. So yes, I welcomed the calmer week.

We're almost done with the kitchen. My husband is doing the backsplash himself after trying and failing to set up a tile guy several times.  It's the last thing we need to do and be done, and it's turning out really nice! I'm fortunate to have married a very handy man! I should be able to post pictures next Sunday!

Two weeks worth of reading here and three of them were audio books. I just didn't have a lot of energy to do anything after getting home from work the previous week. Loved Kiss of Snow so much! It's my favorite of the Psy-Changeling (the original) series so far! Neanderthal Seeks Human was so funny! My husband and I loved it! We listened to the audio on our drive back and forth up north. Murder Most Fair was an excellent installment another series stand out. I wished I loved Second Chance at Sunflower Ranch more, but not every book from a favorite author is going to be a win. The Heart Principle was very different from the two previous books, and I think that affected reactions. . I did enjoy it, but it was a difficult read at times and I felt Quan (like many readers) was shortchanged.

Received/Purchased/Library Lend:

Both are collections of novellas. I borrowed the Psy-Changeling one and hope to start it today or tomorrow and I was excited to get approval for the Jill Shalvis book since requesting has been hit and miss for me.

Was happy to get this unexpected bookmail! I guess I should've listed this above with the Received. I discovered that Elaine Murphy is a pen name for Julianna Keys and I loved her romances in the past, so I'm excited to see what she does with a thriller!

Nothing you haven't seen me list here before: Chicago Med and 48-Hours.

How was your week?

  1. Wow I've read all the books on your post except the Carolyn Brown one. You are getting to the best stuff on the Psy-Changeling. Thanks for joining the Read-along. I love all the Penny Reid books. They are both funny and heartfelt.

Yay for the handy guy and a finished project. Mine is just about to begin. UGH.

Anne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

  2. Can't wait to see the finished pics. and yes calmer weeks are needed sometimes!

Every time I see those Huber covers I think "I need to read those" :)

I am loving all the suspense books these days. :)

  3. Happy Sunday! That is a blessing to have a husband that is a handyman. Bookmail is always the best to receive right? I adore Kiss of Snow as well. Its one of my favorites. Love Hawke and Sienna together, they are so funny.

  4. School is closing for us on Wednesday and I really can't wait! I need a holiday so desperately. So yes to calmer weeks. I love the cover for Murder most fair, I will take a look at it.

Have a good week and I hope things are calm on your side.

  5. Glad the visit was fun if a bit hectic and with work. Neat that your hubby is able to finish the backsplash tile so your kitchen is done. We're in the midst of a bathroom project. Glad all the books were great. I think I have Neanderthal vs Human so glad to know it was a fun one.

    Have a good week, Rachel!

  6. I loved the short stories in Singh's Wild Invitation. (I just read them like two weeks ago.) And I can't wait to see pics of your lovely new kitchen. :)

  7. Kiss of Snow is one of my favorites from the Psy-Changeling too! It's just soooo good!

  8. Yeah I struggled with The Heart Principle as well. It just didn't have the same magic as the previous ones. And I love all the psy changeling books, but everyone loves Kiss of Snow. Sienna is the bomb!!

  9. Can't wait to see your renovation pictures. I read Holiday Ever After and really enjoyed it. It's 3 novellas, so it's a quick read. Hope you enjoy it too!

  10. It's always nice when hubby can do things around the house himself. Ken worked apartment maintenance for 30 years so I know how that goes.

  11. Hooray for quieter weeks and a handy husband. Can't wait to see the pictures! I really think people are more frustrated about Quan not getting a full-on romance than then actually thinking the book wasn't good. He was too much of a fan favorite to not get to be the star of the book. Oooh, new Shalvis. My luck with those requests are hit or miss too. I got the book for her new series, but I had been rejected for the last Wildstone book. At least my library always gets her books.

  12. Thank goodness for a less hectic week. Sounds like it was needed. Nice that your husband can step in and work on the backsplash in the absence of a tradesman. I plan on starting the Psy-Changeling series next month and have high hopes!
