Holiday Release Blitz-SMP Romance

I'm excited to be part of the SMP Holiday Romance Blitz, because it's getting close to the season where you want to pick up a romance to warm your heart while you read by a cozy fire! Any one of these titles will put you in the Holiday Romance mood!  I read With This Christmas Ring by Manda Collins (see my review below) and loved this second chance romance!  As part of this post the lovely people of St. Martin's Press have generously offered up a giveaway of one of the print titles.  See below for details and enter for a chance to win.

Publication Date: October 3rd 2017 by Swerve
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

About the book:

A wallflower determined to fulfill a dying promise, the rogue she jilted years ago, and an orphaned baby are all brought together amidst the magic of Christmas in this new novella from Manda Collins.

Miss Merry Parks makes a deathbed promise to a schoolfriend that her infant daughter will be taken to her absent father. There’s only one problem—to find the baby’s father, she’ll have to consult his cousin, Viscount Wrotham, the man she jilted five years ago. The man she couldn’t forget.

Alex Ponsonby, Viscount Wrotham, is stunned to find Merry Parks—looking more lovely than ever--on his doorstep with an infant in her arms. His shock soon turns to dismay when he learns his own cousin William is the man who abandoned his wife and child. As head of the family he’s duty bound to see right is done. But he can't let this opportunity pass. He’ll take Merry and the baby to his cousin, but he’ll woo her back in the process.

Merry agrees to travel with Alex and the baby to Wrotham Castle, where the entire Ponsonby family has gathered for Christmas, but her plans to see the baby settled then leave are ruined by a snowstorm. After five years apart, Alex and Merry will spend the week getting reacquainted. Perhaps it’s the spirit of the holiday, or the magic of the season, but there could be something else in the air this Yuletide…A Christmas Reunion.

My Thoughts:
Circumstances throw Merry and Alex together after Merry ended their engagement five years ago. Merry was bullied by Alex’s grandmother, the dowager Lady Wrotham, to break things off unbeknownst to Alex.  The moment they lay eyes on each other again the attraction and longing rush right back up, but Merry doesn’t expect Alex to give her a second chance.  However, it doesn’t seem Alex is holding a grudge, he’s had some time to think about the past and suspects his grandmother had a hand in ending things so when Merry shows up in his life again, he’s determined to take this opportunity to set things right and find happiness with Merry at long last.

With This Christmas Ring was a sweet, second chance romance that warmed my heart.  There’s no drama between Alex and Merry once they meet up again. They are truthful and bond over the loss and longing they’ve felt since parting.  All conflict comes from outside sources and they meet those problems head on, as a united front.

The Holiday setting will get you in the mood to take a snowy sleigh ride, snuggling up to your loved one, staying warm under blankets and the heat of attraction.

Blitz Review, Excerpt & Giveaway: The Trouble with Dukes by Grace Burrowes

I'm excited to be part of the Release Week Blitz for Grace Burrowes newest release The Trouble With Dukes, the first in her Windham Brides series, because I really enjoyed the story! I have my review, an excerpt and a wonderful giveaway to share as part of my post.

The Trouble with Dukes (Windham Brides #1) by Grace Burrowes
Publication Date: December 20th 2016 by Forever
Purchase Links:
Amazon |AudibleBarnes & Noble | Books-A-Million | Google Play | iBooks | Indiebound | Kobo

About the book:

This first novel in a new Regency series from USA Today bestselling author Grace Burrowes is a spinoff of her highly popular Windham series.
THEY CALL HIM THE DUKE OF MURDER...

The gossips whisper that the new Duke of Murdoch is a brute, a murderer, and even worse—a Scot. They say he should never be trusted alone with a woman. But Megan Windham sees in Hamish something different, someone different.

No one was fiercer at war than Hamish MacHugh, though now the soldier faces a whole new battlefield: a London Season. To make his sisters happy, he'll take on any challenge—even letting their friend Miss Windham teach him to waltz. Megan isn't the least bit intimidated by his dark reputation, but Hamish senses that she's fighting battles of her own. For her, he'll become the warrior once more, and for her, he might just lose his heart.

My Thoughts:
Men with impeccable manners and pretty words don’t impress Megan Windham.  She’s found out the hard way that a snake can be under all those social niceties.  That’s why Megan isn’t turned off by Hamish MacHugh’s lack of them.  Instead, Megan finds herself drawn to the unrefined, but genuine man, but does it matter when another schemes and plots to take her freedom away?

Hamish has a fierce reputation, nick-named the “Duke of Murder” by gossipers, but he’s braving the London social season for his younger sisters.  For some reason Megan isn’t scared off by his reputation.  She has no problem providing practical advice on fitting in, and Hamish relishes the extra one on one time they spend together.

Hamish and Megan came into each other’s lives at the right time, for both need a bit of rescuing. Megan’s problems, thanks to the scumbag Sir Fletcher, were more worrisome.  Sir Fletcher, while handsome and perfectly mannered from outward appearances, made my skin crawl! Thankfully, Megan has many in her corner, and now the “Duke of Murder” on her side.   Their relationship is definitely beneficial on both sides, for Hamish struggles with guilt from his experiences in war.  Megan’s understanding and perspective help him push those feelings aside, and their shared confidences build trust, affection, and love between them.  Plenty of feelings fueled the attraction that they initially felt into an all-consuming fire!

Watching Megan and Hamish fall for each other while trying to overcome Sir Fletcher’s schemes completely sucked me in, and the 368 pages just flew by. I appreciated that neither fell solely because of looks.  Yes, they both were physically attracted to each other, but it was what was underneath that really bonded them.

The Trouble with Dukes is the start of a spinoff series to Grace Burrowes’s Windham series, but I enjoyed this story without reading the previous books.  There are a lot of characters from the previous series, Megan’s relations, that show up and I’m sure fans will appreciate their appearances.   I look forward to Colin MacHugh’s story next in Too Scot to Handle!

Release Blitz, Review & Giveaway: Merry Cowboy Christmas by Carolyn Brown

I'm thrilled to be part of the Release Week Blitz for Carolyn Brown's Merry Cowboy Christmas since I've loved this series from the beginning!  Be sure to scroll down for more information on the series and a giveaway of Merry Cowboy Christmas!

Publication Date: September 27th by Forever
Purchase Links:

About the book:

"Jud with his slow, Texas drawl is one sexy cowboy who will have readers falling in love with him. His romantic connection with Fiona sizzles. Brown's modern storytelling and fun-filled plot will engage readers and wrap them up in this sweet, Southern holiday romance." --RT Book Reviews

THIS CHRISTMAS, SANTA'S WEARING A STETSON

'Tis the night before Christmas and all through the house is the presence of one wickedly hot cowboy who's come to stay for the holiday. Fiona Logan is downright shocked to return to her childhood home and find that the tall blond stranger who came to her rescue on an icy road will be sleeping just across the hall from her bedroom. Talk about temptation . . .

Jud Dawson never believed the Lucky Penny Ranch would live up to its name until now. Fiona is gorgeous, smart, funny, and everything he thought he'd never find. Now all he has to do is convince her to stick around town instead of hightailing it back to Houston. But with wild weather, nosy neighbors, and a new baby in the family, getting her to admit that she's falling in love might just take a Christmas miracle.

My Thoughts:
Fiona is back home in Dry Creek, Texas, not really by choice, but because she had nowhere else to go.  After a failed marriage that got her blacklisted in her line of work, and losing her job at a coffee house, she barely had enough funds to get her back home. However, being back feels more right than Fiona would’ve expected.  Could it be that Dry Creek is where she’s meant to end up after all? That sexy cowboy, Jud Dawson, staying across the hall from her in the family house is sure an incentive to stay, but will she miss the big city life if she settles down?

Jud Dawson has finally made his way out to Lucky Penny Ranch after buying into it with his cousins Blake and Toby. Bunking at the Logan family house while working on the ranch turns out to be a sweeter prospect when Fiona Logan comes back home.  Jud is looking to plant roots at Lucky Penny, making a place for the Dawson’s generations to come.  Could Fiona be the woman to help all those dreams come true?

While it seemed that Fiona wasn’t too keen on settling in (at first), the heat and passion between Jud and her made it real evident Fiona was going to think twice about leaving.  What is a high-powered job and big fancy city when you have no one you love to come home to?

It was fun catching up with Fiona’s sisters, Allie and Lizzy, now married to Blake and Toby Dawson, and the Dry Creek town folk.  Some of the characters who’ve caused trouble in the past have a turn of fortune, and the Logan’s and Dawson’s show their big hearts by setting grudges aside and helping out.

Carolyn Brown's romances are always filled with sexy cowboys, strong families, and laugh-out-loud humor! Jud and Fiona’s romance was at the center of the story, but this was also about family and friends rallying together, enjoying the holidays, and making amends.  It will make you crave turkey, pies, biscuits and gravy, old-fashioned Christmas cookies, and hot-chocolate!  The food sounded delicious, and now I’m hungry all over again thinking about it!  Merry Cowboy Christmas is an easygoing, warm-your-heart kind of romance, a perfect read for a cold winter night!

Top 5 Books That Makes Great Gifts (Christmas/Holidays theme)

  1. Merry Cowboy Christmas (a little ego slipping out here). It’s got magic, healing and miracles for my readers.
  2. Mistletoe Cottage by Debbie Mason. It’s a special time of year with special circumstances but again love has the ability to jump over hurdles.
  3. Christmas Comes to Main Street by Olivia Miles. It might be the worst time of the year to be single but hey, Kara Hastings isn’t going to let her festive season be ruined. At least not until a very bossy city guy enters the picture.
  4. Christmas in Cupid Falls by Holly Jacobs. It’s a sticky situation that’s happening in Cupid Falls and time is getting away from Kennedy Anderson.
Kissing Under the Mistletoe by Marina Adair.  Regan Martin lost everything including her faith in all men when she fell in love six years ago. Now there’s a chance it might be restored

Release Blitz: A Cowboy Christmas by Carolyn Brown

I adore Carolyn Brown's sexy cowboy romances and I've enjoyed all the tales from Burnt Boot, Texas so I was excited to participate in the Release Blitz for her newest in the series, A Cowboy Christmas Miracle!  For my post I have an excerpt as well as a giveaway, so go on and read about Declan and Betsy's turn at love and then make sure to scroll down for a chance to win

Publication Date: September 6th 2016 by Sourcebooks Casablanca
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | BAM

About the book:

It will take a miracle bigger than the state of Texas for these two feuding families to survive the holidays!

Opposites might attract…
The Brennans and the Gallaghers put aside their one-hundred-year feud every Tuesday for their weekly poker game. This week, the stakes are sky-high. Goaded to recklessness, Declan Brennan bets one thousand dollars that he can woo the next woman to walk into the saloon. A minute later, fiery-haired Betsy Gallagher pushes through the doors. If Declan can tame this wild Gallagher, he’ll have earned every penny.

If they don’t kill each other first…
Betsy can outshoot anybody in Burnt Boot and loves ranching more than anything—until she falls for Declan. He’s fallen for her too. But when she discovers what sparked their courtship, Declan will need a Christmas miracle to save his hide—and his heart.

NY Times and USA Today Bestselling author and RITA Finalist, Carolyn Brown, has published more than seventy books.  These days she is concentrating on her two loves:  women’s fiction and contemporary cowboy romance. She and her husband, a retired English teacher, make their home in southern Oklahoma.

Excerpt:

Swollen ankles. Puffy face. And now mood swings.
Even with all that, Betsy was so jealous of Angela that she could feel her soul turning neon green. It’s a wonder she didn’t glow with envy like an alien life force.
Angela wiped tears away with a soggy tissue. “It’s a boy, and I’m naming him Christian because he’s arriving during the Christmas season, and he’ll be too old to be baby Jesus next year, and I wanted him to grow up to be a preacher like my daddy and my brother, John, and now he’ll grow up to be a… Oh no…”
“What?” Betsy tensed. “Is it labor? Do I need to call Jody?”
Angela grabbed for more tissues. “No, it’s worse. Burnt Boot isn’t going to have Christmas. It’s an omen. Christian will grow up to be an outlaw and put shame on the Gallagher name.”
Betsy patted her on the arm and wished she had a shot of whiskey, but there wasn’t even a beer in Jody and Angela’s house. Angela abstained from anything that had a drop of liquor in it—she didn’t even have a slice of butter rum cake at the family holiday parties.
“It’ll be okay,” Betsy said. “It’s a season of miracles. Something could happen so that we’ll have Christmas.”
Angela’s blond hair covered her tear-streaked face when she bent forward, head in hands, and wept. “That would take more than a miracle. It would take magic the way the Brennans and the Gallaghers have both set their heels and refuse to give anything to the church for new Christmas decorations.”
“What about the other folks in town?” Betsy asked. “Those who aren’t part of this feud?”
“If they help out with the program, then the feudin’ folks won’t do business with them, so they’re between a rock and a hard place.” Angela lifted her head and threw a handful of soggy tissues in the trash. “I want a Christmas program at the church, and I want my son to be baby Jesus, and I know you can make it happen, Betsy Gallagher.”
Betsy’s emerald-green eyes widened. “I’m not a magician.”
Angela inhaled deeply, straightened her back, and crossed her hands over an enormous baby bump. “I’m depending on you, Betsy. If anyone in the whole state of Texas can put my Christian in that manger for the Christmas program, you can do it.”
“Come on, Angela, you know that Granny would disown me if I lifted a finger to make Christmas happen. You’ll have to be content with the Christmas tree lighting on Main Street,” Betsy said.
Angela held up a finger and sniffled. “No! I won’t be satisfied with that. I want my Christian to be wrapped in swaddling blankets in a manger, and I want the wise men and the shepherds to come and see him.” The finger shifted to point straight at Betsy. “And you are going to talk those two old women into letting it happen.”
Betsy flinched. “Granny will go up in flames if she hears you call her old.”
“I’m sick of this feud. It’s time to bury the hatchet or sign a treaty in blood or spit in their hands and shake like a couple of kids—whatever it takes to end this shit,” Angela said.
“You said a bad word,” Betsy whispered.
Tears started in earnest again. “That should”—hiccup—“tell you”—hiccup—“how much Christmas means to me?” A final hiccup.
Betsy patted her shoulder and handed her the box of tissues from the coffee table. “I’ll do what I can—I promise.”
Angela blew her nose loudly and hauled herself off the sofa. “Time to go to the bathroom again. All I do is cry and pee. It’s a wonder Jody stays with me.”
Betsy quickly pushed up out of the recliner and said, “I should be going anyway. It’s getting late.”
“I hear Jody driving up in the yard. He’ll be excited that you are going to fix it so that we have a Christmas program.” Angela smiled brightly. “Why don’t you stick around and have a glass of tea with us?”
Betsy needed something a hell of a lot stronger than sweet tea at that moment. She really, really needed a strong shot of good old Irish whiskey, preferably Jameson or at least a beer. “No thanks. I really do have to go, but you hang in there, girl. It’s only another week until that baby boy will be here. Then, according to what I hear, you won’t get any sleep for a few months.”
Jody pushed through the door, letting a blast of cold November air into the small house. Angela gave him a kiss. “Hello, darlin’. I want to hear about the meeting with Granny Naomi right after I get out of the bathroom. Bundle up, Betsy.”
Jody held Betsy’s coat for her and whispered, “Whatever you did, thank you. She seems happy.”
Betsy raised a shoulder. “I’m supposed to work miracles in the middle of the worst feud war we’ve ever had. She wants me to talk Granny into having a Christmas program at the church. Might as well try to talk a donkey into changing into Cinderella.”
“If anyone can do it, you can.” Jody grinned.
Betsy took those words out the door and into the cold night air, wishing she was as mean and tough as everyone thought. Tanner, her favorite cousin, said she was ninety percent bluff and ten percent mean.
“But you don’t want to test that mean part.” He’d laughed when she’d given him the old stink eye.
Light shined out from the living room window, giving the brown grass a yellow glow, like the star that used to hang from the ceiling at the Christmas program. What Angela wanted was totally impossible, but Betsy would try to think of something. Maybe they could have a Gallagher program at the Christmas dinner, complete with a nativity scene.
She sat in her hot-pink pickup truck for several minutes. Through the window, she saw Jody hug Angela. Their body language said they were in love, and the way Jody’s hands went to Angela’s rounded tummy left no doubt that they couldn’t wait for their son to be born.
Betsy blinked the tears back, refusing to let them fall. She wouldn’t cry for what she couldn’t have. She finally started the engine but sat for several more minutes, staring at the house. It was one of a dozen small log cabin homes scattered about Wild Horse Ranch. They’d been built one by one as first homes for the newly wedded Gallagher couples. When the couple got on their feet and had enough money to buy their own land, they then moved to another section of the ever-growing ranch. She wanted a house like they had. She didn’t care if she never had a big spread of her own. She’d be content to work for her granny and live in a little log cabin the rest of her life if she could have a husband who loved her as much as Jody loved Angela.

“Show me your scars… and I’ll show you mine.” The muscle in my forehead grew taut, and even without a mirror, I knew how harsh my expression must’ve been to her. It became evident in every inch of my face, from my pursed lips to my tense jaw, even the space between my eyebrows ached with tension. “Just because I don’t wear them on my skin doesn’t mean I don’t have them, Nolan. Everyone has scars. Everyone has dealt with some varying degree of pain. We’ve all been hurt one way or another.” “And what will seeing your scars do for me?” She shrugged with her fingers holding onto my shirt, unmoving, simply waiting. “Hopefully make you understand you’re not alone. Maybe help connect us in some way. Bring us closer, and allow us to open up to each other in a way we’ve never been able to with anyone else.” “How could we possibly understand each other’s pain?” My voice rumbled heavily as the words escaped me. The oxygen grew thick around us and made it difficult to hold onto my bearings. Her gaze fell to her fingers once they began to resume their task— pulling my shirt from the waistband of my pants before unhooking the very last button. Then she ran her palms up my chest. Heat spread over me like the sun peeking through the clouds. It left me lost in her touch. Her hands moved to my shoulders, beneath my work shirt, and then torturously down my arms. She pushed my shirt off my body with an unhurried ease. My white undershirt remained, covering my chest and hiding the unsavory reminders of war. She stood in front of me, staring at my torso like it was a blank canvas, waiting for it to reveal something to her. Gentle fingers caressed the fabric at my sides, leaving behind trails of deep shivers like paths of singed nerves that sparked and sizzled long after her touch had moved on. Her scrutiny proved to be too much to handle, and without thought, I roughly grabbed the hem of her T-shirt, yanked it over her head, and left her in nothing but a plain black bra. Wide, cerulean eyes met mine, and a soft, airy gasp resounded around us.

Exclusive Excerpt:
Alexis Conner’s door is ajar. I hesitantly take a step toward it, rethinking skipping out on dinner since he clearly cooked, when the very guy himself comes through the building’s front door instead of his own. He’s caught off guard to find me standing in my doorway. “Hey,” he says with such a lazy grin that I find myself smiling back too. “Were you looking for me?” He’s wearing a simple gray pair of sweats and a plain t-shirt. Sans shoes. “Yes, I was actually just going to step out for some groceries when it occurred to me that I don’t know where the closest store is.” His chuckle is deep as he closes the door behind him. “Well, there is actually a place within walking distance, but it’s getting late and they don’t stay open past 10. If you leave now you’ll probably make it just fine, but you’d miss the awesome dinner I made.” “Oh.” I feel his hot gaze wash over me as he steps around me. “I made pasta. How about we eat dinner tonight and then tomorrow we can go to the store?” “We?” “Yeah,” he answers, walking into his apartment. He starts talking again, which means I have to follow him inside. “I need to go to the store too. So if I need to go and you need to go, we could go at the same time.” He pauses to look over his shoulder as he pulls garlic bread out of the oven. “Unless, of course, you don’t like to grocery shop with other people.” “I guess there’s nothing wrong with that, but what makes you so sure you’ll want to hang out with me again after tonight? I mean, I could be crazy and you’re only minutes away from finding that out.” Pulling two plates from his cupboard, he flashes me a grin that warms my cheeks instantly. “What type of crazy are you talking about?” Although he makes me nervous, it’s as though my mind and lips have their own plan. “What kind of crazy can you handle?”

Jake Keller walked away from the limelight five years ago and yearns to return to what’s always driven him: the music. If he gets to work for a smart-mouthed, funny-as-hell bombshell, all the better. But talking Addie into giving him the job is far easier than persuading her that he wants more than a romp in her bed. Just when she begins to drop her walls, Jake’s past finally catches up with him.

Will Addie be torn apart once again or will Jake be able to convince her to drown out her doubts and listen to her heart?

"The story is fresh, the characters are hot, the chemistry between Jake and Addison is through the roof, and the picture that Ms. Proby paints is vivid and energetic." -Literati Literature Lovers
