Sunday Post #57

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

It seems like I'm still in holiday mode with only working 3 days this last week, but things have been busy.  Last week I was in Cabo San Lucas (my first time traveling there) on a last minute holiday trip over Christmas.  I'm not a last minute vacation person, I usually have things planned out well in advance, but my daughter arranged the whole thing and we had a lovely time.

Read:
(Click on cover for Goodreads link)

I'm on an audio binge listen with the Lady Darby mystery series.  I started it after loving Anna Lee Huber's Verity Kent series and the narrator Heather Wilds'. Her narration is perfection, and so I've downloaded all the rest of the books, and I'm hoping I can get through the next 5 in the series before my library lend expires. Probably shouldn't have checked them out all at once.

Received/Purchased/Library Lend:

Yep, I did that. I requested the six books above (one is a novella) from the library and now I have 16 days to finish them all! Real smart move there, right? They're audio books so I can listen when doing other things, so at least there's that. Wish me luck!

Watched:

Had to find a series to watch after finishing The Big Bang Theory and so now I'm watching two. I read You, but not the second book Hidden Bodies. I think the show is a really good adaptation of the book! Very creepy and I'm finding myself root for Joe, as I did in the book, even though I know he's not a good person. Body Guard is pretty good, even though I'm not a big fan of Keely Hawes character Julia, the Home Secretary, the woman David is guarding.  She's kind of a piece of work and I don't trust her so far. We'll see how it all plays out.

  1. I am glad you enjoyed your spur of the moment vacation. That sounds like a nice break from things. I really like Huber's Verity Kent, but haven't yet met Lady Darby. I hear it's a great series and am glad you are enjoying the books. I enjoyed Body Guard. I haven't seen You yet.

I hope you have a great week, Rachel! Enjoy your books!

  2. Cabo sounds fun! And happy New Year! The Huber books look like lots of fun.

I started watching YOU on Netflix but still have to finish S1. It was creeping me out a little haha although I kinda liked that no one was likable- I'm like who 's the least evil here lol?

    Have a great week!

    1. Thank you, Greg! You too! :) I'm loving Huber. She's a new to me author that I'm adding to auto buy status.

Yeah, no one is likeabel in You. It is a creepy show/story, but strangely addictive. It does give you that ick feeling after watching it, though.

  3. Oh I am not a last minute person as well. And I am glad it worked out well for you. I loved Bodyguard and hated Julia though.

We went to the nearby beach to watch the fireworks and then had a quiet night inside.

    Happy New Year!

    1. Thank you! You is really creepy, so I can understand why it wouldn't work for some. I get an ick feeling after binge watching episodes, but I want to see how the TV adaptation works out the end.

  9. Neat of your daughter to arrange the fun trip. We were still in holiday mode last week, too.
Ha! We must be on the same vibe. I started the Lady Darby series, too. I'll be doing them in print a few a month though I did the first one on audio through the library (they only had the first one on audio).
I've been meaning to read You.

Have a great week back to the usual, Rachel! :)

    1. Ha! Must be Sophia Rose! Great minds and all that. I'm really loving the series. Oh bummer that your library doesn't have more of the audio books! Heather Wilds' narration is just perfection!

You is disturbing, and I can't rightly say I enjoyed the story but it was riveting! I didn't continue to the next book because I think one book was my limit, lol.

      Thank you, you too! :)

    1. It was a nice break from life, and it was rainy here in So Cal when we were there, which isn't the norm so we did miss some bad weather. Although, I don't mind the rain when I don't have to make my commute. We get so little of it, I actually like it.

Hope you enjoyed First Cut as much as I did. :)

  15. I have taken a vacation on the spur of the moment before and it was one of my favorite trips. I hope you had a fantastic time. It has been so long since we have been able to go anywhere so I think it sounds fantastic! I hope you are able to work your way through those audios before your library loan ends. Have a great week!

  16. Everyone was captivated overhere with Bodyguard as it aired on BBC One... I never watched it as it's not my typical thing but I am curious. Plus, Richard Madden! 😍

You, S1, I watched last year and LOVED it! I haven't found time for S2 yet but it's high on my watch list!

The Anna Lee Huber covers are awesome. Hope you have a good week!
