Sunday Post #272

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.

It's been a busy week with cats! Smokey has been settling in, super friendly and less afraid. Peanut and Smokey have little meet-and-greets through a small crack in the door as we supervise. It's going well. We caught Starla, the mom cat (now named Marmalade) and her 3 kittens, took them to the animal rescue. Starla is being spayed and given her shots on Tuesday and I'm picking her up directly from there to come home. Marmalade and her kittens are on the list to be adopted out. The kittens have a better chance at getting placed. If they can't place Marmalade, we'll get her back after she's been spayed and vaccinated.

We've had a few rainy days and it's been cold at night! It dipped down to 27F degrees. We've pulled dead flowers and vegetables from the garden. I do have some fall/winter produce coming. Little gem lettuce, Swiss Chard radish, arugula, cauliflower and broccoli.

I've been out on a lot of runs/walks around the neighborhood and the fall colors continue to amaze me!

How was your week?

  1. Busy week with cats. I can't have them with my allergies but my neighbor is feeding several at her house (across the street). Our fall colors are really getting nice but no freeze yet, only upper 30s. I see you are reading books I loved like Alex Verus and Steinbeck & Reed.

    1. Yes! Lots of cat shenanigans, but it's getting more under control, haha! The fall colors have been so beautiful and vibrant this year! I'm soaking the up because we have a few rainstorms on the way and I'm sure they'll take a bunch of the leaves with them. Yes! I'm going to request the next Verus book right now. Loving the series!

    1. I'm always excited when I see a Heron. They're very cautious birds and so once they spy you watching them they move on. They're so big! Seeing them fly is wonderful! Me too!

  3. I've never had a cat. I'm allergic. Falcor is my first dog as an adult. lol Hopefully the cats get adopted but it's good they have a home with you if they don't.

  4. You live in a beautiful area! We're enjoying cooler temps here too. I miss having cats, but my husband is allergic, so we have a chihuahua instead. Have a great week!

    1. Thank you! I'm a cat person and thankfully so is my husband. I've had a small dog and that's what I'd get again if we did get a dog. You have a great week, too!

  6. I have a burning bush in my backyard and it's ablaze in scarlet foliage right now, too. It's one of my favorite autumn plants. And yay for capturing all the stray cats...fingers crossed they all find good homes. :D

    1. You're fortunate. I want to buy one for our house! It's stunning! I hope so, too! We might get the mom cat back here as a barn cat. We're okay with that. :)

  7. Your feline family is growing! Glad to hear it is going well. Love the nature shots. I wish I could grow some food. At least I would know what I am eating.

    1. It is getting smaller, lol! We are down 4 cats so we'll have a total of 3 cats that are really ours. Unless, momma cat can't get adopted out and then she comes back as a barn cat here. I didn't start growing things until we moved out with a bit of land, but you can grow even in a small space and indoors with hydroponics. My brother-in-law used to grow a bunch of things indoors before moving out here.

    1. Thanks, Deb! We're so happy we're getting the cat situation dealt with. My pleasure! I'm soaking in all the beauty before our coming rainstorms knock off all the leaves for the season.

  9. Some beautiful photos! Now what about this fall /winter produce -- is it inside? I imagine it would be frozen if not. And love hearing about the cats. Is Smokey an adult or kitten? I thought you might keep a kitten but perhaps it's difficult. I wish all the kitties a happy transition and outcome. Happy reading.

    1. No the produce is outside, but it lasts pretty well as long as we don't get a big snowfall. Even then, our carrots and radishes seem to do okay. It usually doesn't get much colder than in the 20s in the lows. We'll see what happens. Smokey is about 6 months, so still kitten-ish. He's a sweetheart. It's been a little up and down with introductions. Peanut is territorial, but I guess that's normal cat behavior. Thank you, Susan! You too!

    1. I hope so, too! How wonderful you have a Burning Bush! I've never heard of it before until I snapped the photo and fed it through my plant identifier. It's absolutely gorgeous in person! I want to get one for my yard, too. You have a good week, too, Sophia!
