I hope everyone had a nice holiday!
I'm getting this up late because I worked the holiday and then went to my sister's for dinner and then watched the fireworks they do over the lake by their house. It was an amazing show!
I've been a bit MIA because we took a road trip from Northern California to Idaho, Grand Tetons in Wyoming and then ending in Montana at my daughter's place. It is a 13.5 hour drive by car to my daughter's house without stops. On the way we stopped in Twin Falls, Idaho to see Shoshone Falls, the "Niagara Falls of the West". You'd have never known they were there because it was flat all around and a very desert-y part of Idaho. The falls were low, but still pretty. Earlier in the year or depending on rainfall (photo below) all that rock there would be overflowing with water.

You can see it got pretty crazy in spots. We purchased the photos and a video taken by the rafting company and it was worth the money! Lewis & Clark River Expeditions is the company and I recommend them if you're ever considering white water rafting in the area.
This is the scenery in a calm spot on the lake. It was so gorgeous!
After we finished we went back to Jackson and had lunch downtown. Such a cute town in a beautiful setting.
A ski lift you can ride up to the top in summer. We wanted to do this but just didn't have the time. It's steeper than it looks!

It rained most of the time we were there, but I didn't mind it. We watched movies and did puzzles, went bowling, had friends over for dinner and went to the lodge for Mingo (Music Bingo) which was a lot of fun.

It was such a beautiful trip! I'm happy to be home over the holiday, though. I don't like traveling over the holidays if I can help it, and I need some rest!

We listened to The Plea on our trip out and then Thirteen on our way back. Both are Eddie Flynn and both were sooo good! If you're a fan of smart legal thriller I highly recommend the series!

How was your week?
That was quite the trip! both in terms of length and activities. I would NEVER take rafting LOL - I hate getting wet for one...but regardless, I wouldn't have the heart for that.

Cats are funny that way, aren't they? I bet he did it on purpose 😂.
I don't mind getting wet, but I hate cold water, but thankfully the wetsuits made me hardly notice the cold. Cats are so funny and they do love laying in the middle of puzzles for whatever reason. Yes, I think Pepper was tired of his mom ignoring him over a puzzle, lol!

DeleteLove the puzzle cats and gorgeous photos! Can you imagine your your job being to go rafting every day? I totally picked the wrong career path. No one tells us about white water rafting guide on career day in high school.

DeleteLooks like it was a wonderful trip! I've never been white water rafting. As I'm not a great swimmer, it's never been something I've been too eager to try. But that looks like fun! Glad you enjoyed your trip and got to do all that fun stuff and have family time.

I love those fun rafting photos. If I'm on a raft I want one of those action shots, like when you are under water. We were just at Shoshone Falls this summer, too. I was admittedly a bit disappointed in it.

ReplyDeleteI remember going with friends white water rafting on the Snake River when I worked in Yellowstone in 1975---it was a wild and fun experience! It sounds like you had the same wild and fun experience. And you still managed to get in a lot of great reading.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun road trip! You got to see some really cool spots, and white water rafting looks like an absolute blast. Love all the photos you posted! Our week was nice and relaxing—we just grilled out at home for the 4th. Honestly, we're entirely consumed by the FIFA World Cup right now!

I really need to start the Eddie Flynn series. I have a few of them, but not all. I will have to see if the library has the ones at the beginning.

ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Love the rafting trip. As a kid long ago, I went down part of Snake River too on a raft with family - much fun. And when my husband & I drive to Calif we hit Idaho Falls on I-15 ... so take that route south ... but it sounds like we should visit Twin Falls sometime. My sister has a place in Sun Valley so it's a great state to visit. Your daughter has a beautiful backyard in Montana, love the wildflowers & wilderness.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great trip! Northern like that, hopefully it wasn't too hot. We rafted in Canada when we traveled there and the water was 39. Brr. I should get back to those Eddie Flynn books.

Oh wow! Sounds like an amazing trip! The waterfalls look impressive and I bet would be astonishing with full rivers. I've been to Niagara Falls a few times. It's so cool! We spent a week in northern MI with family on the lake. It was such a relaxing week!
