About the book
Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But that doesn’t stop her from hunting the werewolves who slaughtered her human family. She’ll have her revenge, but only if Kyden, the elite guardian, would get the hell out of her way.

Kyden can’t decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she’s doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe…or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden’s aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She’d rather he dropped dead.

But when a vampire paints a bull’s-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.

This story was previously published elsewhere under the title The Willow in 2010, and has been revised and expanded for Entangled Publishing.

My thoughts:
This book was so much fun!  It had EVERYTHING I love in my paranormal reads!  A kick arse heroine who will do anything for the people she loves, a scorching alpha male who tells it like it is, and a wonderful cast of secondary characters that help bring out the wonderful story.  Pure awesomeness!

Nexi Jones has her life turned completely upside down after losing her parents.  She finds out that she is part witch and part guardian and that she is destined for a life that she never even thought existed.  She is quickly pulled into this new life and Nexi learns that someone is out to get her only she doesn't know why.  Well when Kyden, her smexy alpha male, is taken she throws all caution to the wind and vows to stop at nothing to get him back.  Again I say pure awsomeness!

I loved Nexi.  She was exactly who I hope I would be if I were ever in this type of situation.  Which I mean I will never be, but in my dreams I am always this kick bookies woman with a hawtie by my side ha!  I really loved how she never gave up and even in the end she didn't take the cowards way out.  I felt for her at the end and my heart broke for her, but she was strong and did what she had to do.  Kyden was also beyond amazing.  These two together were on fire!  He was THE alpha male and when he told Nexi she was his I got goosebumps.  There is nothing hotter to me than a guy doing this, would I like it in real life, no, but in a book hale YES!  I appreciated how Kyden let Nexi take on the world without interfering.  He protected her when he needed to, but he let her do what she did best and I loved him for that.

The story was a good one, I loved the world and the lore that the author used.  It was a nice spin on the paranormal genre and I am very much looking forward to reading more from this world.  I have always had a thing for paranormal/urban fantasy worlds and this one is definitely a wonderful addition to my collection!

If you are looking for a fun read with a hawt romance then look no further!

Millionaire consultant, Aidan O’Connell knows he’ll one day meet a woman who’ll awaken an unrelenting mating instinct. While the vampire king roots out the corruption threatening to take down his underworld kingdom, Sofia will have to deal with a fallen angel whose dark beauty is often at odds with his ornery nature. Slowly, Sofia and Phenex give in to the strange attraction neither can deny. And as the darkness closes in around them, Phenex begins to wonder whether even the wickedest Fallen might find his own happy ending...and his heart.

Tall, Dark, and Divine, Jenna Bennett
Being the Greek god of love doesn’t mean you believe--or want--anything to do with that sappy emotion. Sure, Eros runs his matchmaking business, Made in Heaven, but finding his own love has never been part of the equation. When he spots the sweet baker who works across the street, he vows to match her with someone else before she stirs his sullen heart.
Annie Landon has given up on finding Mr. Right. What she needs is Mr. Right Here, Right Now, and this so-called “Greek God” she’s heard is on the rebound sounds like the perfect kind of distraction. But picking up the bitter workaholic is easier said than done…especially when he seems unreasonably determined to match her with someone else.
Can a woman looking for love—and the matchmaking god who wants her to find it with someone who isn’t him—have a shot at a happy ending? May the best god—or mortal—win.

Deceiving the Witch Next Door, Melissa Bourbon Ramirez
Down-on-her-luck witch Storie Bell never thought the biggest threat to her future would be Reid Malone, the very man she’d run from years before. After striking it rich in Texas shale, he’s back in town, and he seems hell-bent on getting in the way of her bookstore’s grand opening. A witch trying to blend in in a small southern town is hard enough, but now he’s seriously testing her strict No Kissing Mortal Men policy. But even witches don’t have a spell for that.
Reid knows there’s much more to Storie than meets the eye. But right now he has only one mission: to infiltrate her shop so he can snatch the elusive secret ingredient to his father’s million-dollar moonshine recipe. Once he does, he can go back to the city and get out of his small hometown, a place in which he has no future.
But as the days go by, he can’t help falling for Storie in every way…and every encounter brings him closer to finding out what happens when you try to deceive a witch.

Yet Caitlyn Moore becomes a challenge he can’t resist. When the light-hearted pursuit shifts to a battle to win her heart, his focus is shot. Faced with losing the biggest match of his career, Dante must decide if his extreme life also has room for Extreme Love

My Thoughts:
Dante!!  Dante!!  Dante!!  *looks around*  Oh so sorry!  I was just imagining myself ringside cheering on this hawtie of a man haha!  Abby Niles has managed to combine my two favorite things in my dream alpha male.  One being tattoos and the other being a hawt MMA fighter.  Yes I am into cage fighting and no that is not something that I share with a lot of people LOL!  I have my quirks what can I say anywho moving on!  The only thing that Dante is missing is a piercing and I can promise you that if he had had just one I would have found a way to jump into the pages of this book and marry this man.  I would have totally left my husband!  That is amazing Dante is and Abby Niles I bow down to the queen of hawt male characters!

Whew okay with that all out of the way let me tell you about the story and all the other reasons that make Dante awesome.  So we have Cait a woman struggling with overcoming her weight issue and Dante the fighter who wants to make her see how beautiful she is inside and out.  Their story wasn't an easy one and at times I wanted to scream at Cait for what she was doing, but the things that I wanted to scream at her for never went too far so I forgave her.  I do kinda wish that her weight wasn't so much of an issue.  Cait was a size 12 and in my book that is not overweight.  I know this was the heart of the story, but it started to get to me when everyone that came into contact with Cait treated her like she was huge.  I wanted Cait to stand up for herself more, but I can see where it would have been hard for her.  I really enjoyed the whole MMA world that was thrown into the book as well.  Like I said that whole world fascinates me and I loved seeing it wrapped around this love story.  Cait had a hard time with it and I can totally understand why but I do wish that she was a little more open to the idea of him as a fighter.  That was his life and she was open to so many other things that I wish she would have accepted it sooner.

I also have to give the author major credit because her ending had my heart pounding!  I haven't felt that stressed out while reading in a long time and if I had had a paperback copy I would have cheated and read the last page, but seeing as how I only have the eBook I couldn't do that without totally messing up my page so I had to endure the agonizing will he win or won't he win!  STRESSFUL!  It felt like I was at the fight!

I really felt for Cait in this story for many reasons.  She was determined to help herself which I loved and I really rooted for her.  I really loved that the author chose to make Cait not your everyday barbie and make her someone real.  I think a lot of women will appreciate Cait and connect with her.  Dante was sweet as well, he had the whole alpha thing going for him, but he did turn it down for her knowing that she wasn't used to being pursued.  He tried and failed sometimes, but that only made me love him more.  He was perfect even with his foot in his mouth lol.

Okay Paul where do I even begin.  This man gets his own section of my review because is the friend that every girl needs.  He was beyond hilarious and I LMAO every time he walked into the room because I knew he was going to use yet another nickname for Dante. I think my favorite was Thor.  He had a habit of never saying Dante's name, he always used a tough fictional character name and it just always worked.  He was so much more than just comic relief though, he was there for Cait in a way that no one else was.  He kicked her arse when she needed it and knew when to push.  Cait had come a long way from where she used to be and she needed to accept this new person she created.  Dante may have made her realize how beautiful she was, but Paul was also there and helped her make the first step.  And he was hilarious I can't say that enough.  I think my favorite line of his was "Is he teeny weeny- or thicky wicky?"  LMAO!  This man had me in tears so hats off to Paul!

There were two things that I really wanted to see that I didn't get to and I really wish they were in the story.  I wanted to see more at the end between Dante and his opponent.  I felt like Dante deserved a bit more in regards to what happened at the end.  With all the intensity that was spent on amping up the fight and what happened throughout the book with this particular opponent I really wanted Dante to have say.  I also wanted Cait to go off on someone for calling her names.  She does once but I wanted her to either go off or just grab Dante for a hot as all get out kiss to make a point.  After everything she went through she deserved her moment as well.

This was a wonderful book that I enjoyed immensely if you can't tell.  Plus that cover is beyond drool worthy!!  I am definitely going to keep a watch out for more from this author and I hope she gives us stories from the other characters in this book namely Tommy and Julie!!

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Against the Wall by Rebecca Zanetti

Today, Waves of Fiction is excited to participate in the blog tour for Against the Wall by Rebecca Zanetti hosted by Entangled Publishing.

Against the Wall (Maverick Montana, #1)
Against the Wall by Rebecca Zanetti
Published on March 25, 2013 by Entangled Publishing (Brazen)
Purchase: Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo
About the book
Never challenge a cowboy in the courtroom…

Surveying the proposed site for a high-end golf course should have been a breeze for spunky Landscape Architect Sophie Smith. But when this born-and-bred city girl is suddenly—and quite literally—swept off her feet by a sexy cowboy on horseback, she realizes that the country life has some serious (and seriously steamy!) possibilities. That is, until she finds out exactly who her smokin’-hot wrangler really is.

Cowboy and Tribal lawyer Jack Lodge is desperately trying to block the development. And if that means playing hardball—and being every inch the shark lawyer—so be it. But Sophie is a distraction he didn’t expect. A distraction that makes his blood burn.

Two different worlds. Two opposing sides. And when they finally give into the exquisite temptation, the consequences will shake the foundations of both of their lives…
My Thoughts:
Against the Wall was a fun heat scorching book.  It made me long for a cowboy of my own and I discovered that cowboys can have a very dark and sexy side that all women should experience!

Sophie, needing to help save her Uncles business, heads to Montana to try and win over the local tribe and hopefully start construction on golf course that she designed.  What she didn't count on was a very small town that talks about everything and the town lawyer being more than she could handle.  The story spirals completely out of control with some of the best steamy scenes I have ever read and a wonderful duo that put the spice in spicy.

I really enjoyed this story.  Entangled's Brazen line is quickly becoming one of my favorites and Against the Wall is another great addition.  Sophie and Jake were amazing together.  I loved how Jake was very much the alpha male and I was honestly quite shocked at a few scenes with him.  When I think cowboy I think gentlemanly and down home, but Jake was well he was part aw shucks and part Fifty!  He was very dominate and I have to admit I loved him ha!  Sophie was a great counter to his alpha.  She let him get his way most of the time, but she did have a fire in her that sparked every now and then that gave him a run for his money.  I would have liked to have seen her make him beg just a little bit more, but I can't complain because she was awesome.

I did have a few issues with the overall storyline.  There is something that happens that I can't say, but I don't think this issue was dealt with the right way in my opinion.  I wanted more of a reaction from Sophie in the beginning and it all felt a little reckless.  I wouldn't have minded if this happened at the end of the book as I think it would have fit better.  I wanted Jake to learn from his past not recreate it.  This issue is a big one for me so I am going to have to knock 2 suns from my rating.  My other issue that bugged me throughout the story was the Jake's daughter kept disappearing!  He was the devoted father and that made me love him even more, but that little girl was never around!  Every time Sophie and Jake would start to get hot and heavy I kept looking ahead wondering if they would get caught.  Lelia (Jake's daughter) must have had a spare room at her grandma's house lol!

Other than that this book was a lot of fun and I will definitely check out more from this author!  I am really hoping that we get a few more stories set in this world.  Quinn, Colton, and Dawn were amazing secondary characters and I would love to see their HEAs!

Blog Tour Review: Private Practice by Samanthe Beck

Today Waves of Fiction is participating in the blog tour for Private Practice by Samanthe Beck  hosted by Entangled Publishing (Brazen).

Private Practice by Samanthe Beck
Published on February 23, 2013 by Entangled Publishing (Brazen)
Purchase: Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo
About the book
He’ll teach her how to bring a man to his knees…

Dr. Ellie Swan has a plan: open her practice in tiny Bluelick, Kentucky, so she can keep an eye on her diabetic father, and make hometown golden-boy Roger Reynolds fall in love with her. But Ellie has a problem. Roger seeks a skilled, sexually adventurous partner, and bookish Ellie doesn’t qualify.

Tyler Longfoot only cares about three things: shaking his bad boy image, qualifying for the loan his company needs to rehab a piece of Bluelick’s history, and convincing Ellie to keep quiet about the “incident” that lands him on her doorstep at two a.m. with a bullet in his behind.

The adorable Dr. Swan drives a mean bargain, though. If sex-on-a-stick Tyler will teach Ellie how to bring a man to his knees, she’ll forget about the bullet. Armed with The Wild Woman’s Guide to Sex and Tyler’s lessons, Ellie is confident she can become what Roger needs…if she doesn’t fall for Tyler first.
My thoughts:
I simply adore this book.  Private Practice is beyond delicious and just what any romance reader could want all wrapped up in a nicely written package.

Ellie is the new doctor in town and when she learns that her old high school crush is back on the market she sets her sights on him and refuses to let anything stand in her way.  Not even the fact that this man is rumored to have an insatiable sex drive will deter her from her mission so she does the only thing logical, she asks the town playboy to teach her how to drive a man to his knees.  Well as you can guess many many things happen between these um lessons and Ellie is thrown for quite a loop when her plans start turning to something she never expected.

This book is hilarious!  I have never laughed so hard in my life while reading a book and it all started within the first few pages when Tyler, the playboy, shows up at Ellie's doorstep at 2 in the morning with a bullet in his booty.  Yes you read that right and that scene was one of the funniest ever!  I loved Tyler and Ellie together.  They are without a doubt one of my favorite couples and I could really relate to Ellie.  I mean we are all readers and no not everyone one of us was a "nerd" in high school but I definitely was and if were a nerd then you know what it would mean to go back home and claim the Mr.Popular as our own.  I knew what she felt and even though I couldn't have done what she did I know I would have worked every angle I could to try and win his heart so this book hit a button with me.  Not to mention the fact that Ellie was incredibly likeable and her obsession with researching um methods for her new class was absolutely laugh out loud funny and definitely something I would have done.  When she is going through her textbook of sexual knowledge with Tyler I again had to LOL!  Everything about these two was either downright hotter than a Texas summer day or sweet as southern ice tea.  I mean really what more could a girl ask for??

I am definitely a fan of Samantha Beck.  Her writing is flawless and she has a wonderful way of capturing a readers heart with just a few sentences.  I am a fan for life!

Review: Game for Marriage (Game for It #1) by Karen Erickson

Game for Marriage (Game for It, #1)

Game for Marriage by Karen Erickson
Published January 11th 2013 by Entangled Publishing (Brazen)

About the book:
He’s going in deep to make her his…

Struggling artist Sheridan Harper never imagined she’d spend a sizzling night with Jared Quinn, the smoking-hot star quarterback of her local professional football team, the San Jose Hawks. And she’s even more shocked when Jared’s publicist offers her a proposition: a fake marriage to keep Jared out of the gossip mags. Being that close to Jared would be too tempting, so to protect her heart, she insists on secretly including a clause forbidding sex between them.

Jared just wants to keep his starting QB job and keep it in San Jose. His reputation as a ladies’ man has landed him in the headlines one too many times, but there’s something about his kind, passionate new wife that tempts him beyond reason. Any sort of intimacy between them is completely forbidden, but as their bodies fall in deep, will their hearts follow suit?

My Thoughts:

What a sweet and sexy book! It had everything I love in a good romance - with the added element of football, another favorite pastime of mine!

Sheridan Harper is a struggling artist, trying to make ends meet while keeping open the studio she inherited from her grandmother. Jared Quinn is the star quarterback for the local NFL team, who has the reputation of a ladies man. They meet at a local event where the sparks fly and they end up spending the night together, not expecting anything more.

But Jared's publicist has other ideas. He proposes that Sheridan poses as Jared's wife for a year to help clean up his image, before he gets fired from the team. Sheridan sees it as an opportunity to pay the bills and grow her business and she agrees - with the stipulation that they include a no-sex clause in their agreement. This prevents her from getting too close and falling for the womanizer who inevitably will break her heart.

These two have a chemistry that's so sweet and sexy they can barely resist each other. And while they get to know each other - Sheridan finds out just how much she respects Jared for how strong and loyal he is. Not to mention sexy, possessive, and gorgeous! And Jared sees in Sheridan the sweet, caring, and talented person that she is and falls deeper and deeper for her. Of course, as expected, complications will arise that put a damper on their arrangement - but the angst in this book is so short-lived and painless that it didn't bother me at all! It was well worth it to have the perfect, wonderful ending.

This book had a great combination of romance, steam, and wit - without the cheesy lines or over-the-top descriptions of their sexual encounters. It was just perfect enough to get your heart pumping and make you swoon. I adored these two and their story - and can't wait for the next book in the series, which I expect will be about their friends, Nick & Willow.

Blog Tour: A Little Bit Cupid by Jennifer Shirk

Today Waves of Fiction is excited to be part of the Blog Tour for A Little Bit Cupid by Jennifer Shirk Hosted by Entangled Publishing.

A Little Bit Cupid by Jennifer Shirk
Publication Date: January 13th 2013 by Entangled Publishing

About A LITTLE BIT CUPID: Finding love should be easy, but wedding photographer Pheobe Ward knows better. When Cupid shows up on a crazy mission to help her —and save the world in the process—Phoebe realizes love might be even more complicated than she thought. Even with Cupid showing her Mr. Right, she can’t stop thinking about his best friend, Mr. Wrong.

Cal Crawford has never had time for love, but now he’s falling for Phoebe. Which means it’s got to be just plain wrong to set her up with his best friend, right? But even though seeing Phoebe with someone else will break his heart, he can’t walk away from her.

Phoebe can’t afford to choose the wrong guy with the fate of the world at stake. But maybe Cupid has it wrong. Maybe she has to rely just a little bit on Cupid, and a whole lot more on her heart.
Arlene's Thoughts:
A Little Bit Cupid is a short but sweet love story that requires immediate reality suspension in order to enjoy this adventure to its fullest. It’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, or anytime you’re in the mood for a fun romance.

In this story, we meet Phoebe who has lived her life dodging love and simply believing it’s just not in her cards. Then one day she collides with Cosmo who was sent by the gods to deliver the message that they are at war with Discordia, who plans to wipe love off the planet if Phoebe doesn’t find true love by midnight on Valentine’s Day. Cosmo has picked the perfect man for her, and all she needs to do is get a toe-curling kiss from Adam. But what happens when fate has plans of its own in the name of Cal, a hot and handsome roommate? Will Phoebe be able to put an end to the war by midnight?

I really liked this story and had no issues putting logic aside, which was definitely needed in order to enjoy this abbreviated novel. I liked how the author incorporated the concept of the gods, which I always find fascinating. Jennifer Shirk added her creative take on their never-ending battles, and made it work for her story.

Overall, there’s awkwardness and convenient coincidences served in perfect doses to make A Little Bit Cupid enjoyable yet light hearted. Fun book!

Rachel's Thoughts:
Are you in need of a quick romance fix?  I personally know this can be a desperate situation to find oneself.  Fear not, I have a solution.  The adorable and sweet A Little Bit Cupid.  You seriously could read  this in an hour, and have romance cravings once again at safe levels.

Phoebe finds out the survival of love on earth rests on her shoulders. There’s a fight between the gods and whether or not she can fall in love by Valentines will determine the outcome.  Phoebe finds her love by Valentines and love survives, fail and the world becomes a dismal loveless place.

To aid her in her quest, is Cosmo, a minor god and son of Cupid.  He’s there to point Phoebe to her soul mate, Adam.  Unfortunately, she meets Adam’s roommate and friend, Cal.  She has trouble concentrating on Adam when he’s around, and she wonders why she feels a magnetic pull to him and not Adam.

And here was Cal, about to ruin everything. He had a way of clouding her mind with his six-foot-two frame and that quiet speculative way he’d turned those baby blues on her.

Cal is divided because he knows Phoebe has her sights set on Adam, but he wants her all to himself.  They have and undeniable attraction and he for once wants have something serious.  Cal needs to figure out how to get her attention focused on him.

Like I said, this is a perfect quick read when you need a romance fix, STAT!!

Being the financial caretaker for her deadbeat parents isn’t the life professional organizer Sterling Andrews dreamed of. Tired of being the dependable—and boring—daughter, Sterling decides to have a little fun. And what could be more fun than seducing rich bad boy chef, Jack Vaughn? Except, after one scintillating night together, Sterling’s not only lusting for Jack, she’s working for him. And remaining professional becomes harder every day.

Already a major success thanks to his exclusive restaurants, Jack Vaughn is looking for something more. Ultra responsible Sterling is unlike anyone Jack has met…but she’s his employee. Unwilling to give her up, Jack makes Sterling an offer she can’t refuse—for four sexy weekends, he’ll indulge her most wicked fantasies with no professional strings attached. But will mixing business with pleasure spell disaster? Or will they find the recipe for satisfaction?
My Thoughts:
I love I love I love this story!!  Gina Gordon has written a fantastic romance with plenty of heat, sweet filled moments, and swoon worthy characters.

Sterling is a professional organizer and when Penn, her best friend, talks her into going to an event to find a man for the night she agrees knowing that she needs fun in life.  Sterling has tons of baggage that is not her own, but is still responsible for and all she wants is to have one night of fun.  Que Jack Madewood!  This many is SEXY!  Let me give you a run down...swirling tattoos which includes a panther, a tongue piercing, a very talented chef, and gorgeous...really what more do you need to know??!  Sterling and Jack meet and well after Sterling stops getting sick from seasickness the sparks fly. Both Jack and Sterling have things that they need to get straight in their lives and I was totally rooting for them the entire book.  This story is filled with so much hope and love that it really is bursting from the pages.

Like I said I loved this story.  It was amazing watching Sterling and Jack find each other and so fun to watch them fall.  There were bumps along the way that I was really nervous about, but I kept hope that each could see through the craziness and still want each other.  I really felt for Sterling and I don't think I have ever rooted for a character more.  I think adding in her younger sisters really added to the story, yes it added more responsibility for Sterling but it just showed you how determined she was to save the people that she loves.  I have to say too that I did indeed cry at the end.  I never cry in books but there is one scene at the end with all four boy (Jack and his brothers) that totally had me tearing up!  Bravo Ms.Gordon!
