The Trouble With Love By Lauren Layne

The Trouble With Love (Sex, Love & Stilettos #4) by Lauren Layne
Publication Date: March 3rd 2015 by Loveswept
Pages: 237

Rating: ½

My Thoughts:
The Trouble With Love was a classic second chance romance with Emma and Cassidy at odds, acting icily indifferent to each other. However, with a bit of maneuvering from Camille (Stiletto’s editor in chief) they’re forced to deal with each other and so some of that ice starts to melt. Cassidy takes over Camille’s position while she goes on leave and because he wants answers pushes Emma to write an article detailing her past loves and why they broke up.

I forgot how well Lauren Layne writes romance! It seems lots of romance novels now are pages and pages of sex scenes without much lead up. Layne, however, laid a foundation with Emma and Cassidy having a history, which was slowly revealed.  There was buildup and chemistry! I loved Emma and Cassidy’s journey back to each other. Loved that they were not hateful or mean to each other while there was a lot of hurt feelings between them. This romance was well-crafted, sassy, and hot! A definite recommend!

Book Description:

As Lauren Layne’s salacious Sex, Love & Stiletto series returns, a jaded columnist discovers a steamy way to get over an old flame: falling for him all over again.

As Stiletto magazine’s authority on all things breakup-and-heartache, Emma Sinclair writes from personal experience. Five years ago, Emma was Charlotte, North Carolina’s darling debutante and a blushing bride-to-be. Now she’s the ice queen of the Manhattan dating scene. Emma left her sultry Southern drawl behind, but not even her closest friends know that with it she left her heart. Now Emma’s latest article forces her to face her demons—namely, the devilishly sexy guy who ditched her at the altar.

After giving up everything for a pro-soccer career, Alex Cassidy watches his dreams crumble as a knee injury sidelines him for good. Now he’s hanging up his cleats and giving journalism a shot. It’s just a coincidence that he happens to pick a job in the same field, and the same city, as his former fiancĂ©e . . . right? But when Emma moves in next door, it’s no accident. It’s research. And Alex can’t help wondering what might have been. Unlike the innocent girl he remembers, this Emma is chic, sophisticated, and assertive—and she wants absolutely nothing to do with him. The trouble is, Alex has never wanted her more.

Review: You Had Me at Hockey by Kelly Jamieson

You Had Me at Hockey (Bears Hockey #2) by Kelley Jamieson
Publication Date: December 8th 2020 by Loveswept
Pages: 224

My Thoughts:
Sara’s a life blogger/influencer and is set up to interview a new to New York hockey player for a podcast where they meet. They laugh and connect with attraction simmering between them, even though they’re quite different. There were a lot of fun moments of humor, but there was a deeper emotional side to the story, too.  Josh has some personal battles stemming from a tragedy that almost stole his life and career. His past and another personal connection he made in this book had me tearing up quite a bit.

Josh was a bit buttoned up, but underneath a sweet gentleman. He did like to have control over situations and was big on planning ahead which made Sara a woman he theoretically wouldn’t mesh with, but she was a breath of fresh air for him. Helped Josh get out of his comfort zone and have fun. He was able to introduce her to some new experiences, too. Very sexy experiences!

Sara was sweet, quirky and with a zest for life and new experiences. I liked that she felt comfortable in her own skin, but as any normal woman dealt with self-doubt and esteem issues from time to time which made her very relatable.

You Had Me at Hockey was cute, sweet, but also pretty darn hot! It was a pleasing blend of sizzling romance, lighthearted fun, and deeper emotions. Now I’d like to go back and read the first book!

In Serena Bell’s heartwarming novel, a young mother and a battle-scarred veteran must decide if they can rekindle the sparks they once shared. Fighting for his country gave Jake Taylor’s life shape and meaning. Now as an injured war hero he struggles to find purpose, until he runs into the gorgeous woman he dated briefly—and disastrously—before being deployed eight years ago. Turns out Jake doesn’t just need to figure out how to be a civilian . . . he also needs to learn how to be a dad.

Eighteen, pregnant, and totally lost, Mira Shipley couldn’t track down the soldier who fathered her child, so she put college on hold and focused on making a good life for her son. Now she’s determined to be something more than Sam’s mom, her parents’ daughter, or Jake’s girl—as hot as she finds her old flame’s take-charge attitude in and out of bed. Soon Mira and Jake realize that their passion didn’t disappear when Sam was conceived—and that instead of running away, sometimes it’s better to hold on tight.

ABOUT SERENA BELL:

Serena Bell writes stories about how sex messes with your head, why smart people sometimes do stupid things, and how love can make it all better. She wrote her first steamy romance before she was old enough to understand what all the words meant and has been perfecting the art of hiding pages and screens from curious eyes ever since—a skill that’s particularly useful now that she’s the mother of two school-aged children.
