Sunday Post #31

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

Last Wednesday-Sunday my life revolved around doing wedding flowers, and of course, attending the wedding.  Phew, glad it's over! It was fun, but it was a lot of work! The picture above is some of the flowers at the San Francisco Flower Mart.  For a flower lover this place is heaven.

Anyhow, I'm at home relaxing this weekend after a hectic week back to work.  It's hot here in Southern California, like mid to upper 80's, so we were got some nice time outside in and out of the pool.

This is two weeks worth of reading:
Diamond Fire (re-read by audio) (my review)-5 Stars
A Touch of Forever (my review5 stars
Wolf Rain (my review)-4.5 stars
The Cowboy and His Baby (my review)-4 stars
Make Me No Grave (my review)-3.5 stars

I'm trying to curtail my requests, so I only have the one here, Marry in Secret, and only because it was requested by the publisher. I did request Sapphire Flames and was denied on Edelweiss *sobs*.  I've since requested on Netgalley and haven't heard back. Not a good sign. Oh well, it's not like I don't have a million other books to read between now and when it's released!

Watched:

I was hoping White Hot would be really good since it's was adapted from a Sandra Brown book and she was a producer.  Not so much.  So cheesy and I couldn't stop looking at Shenae Grimes-Beech's horrible helmet hair throughout the movie!

How was your week?

  1. Ooh pool time sounds good if it's that hot! It's been 60's and low 70's here, we haven't had any 80's yet (knock on wood)-it's been a mild early summer so far. Glad the wedding went well. :)

    Cliff's Edge looks good.

  2. It's been very hot and humid here but I didn't get to enjoy the pool as much as I wanted. I have next weekend off, the weather is supposed to be nice, and I have a couple of books to enjoy between swims:)

  3. What beautiful flowers! Yay for Diamond Fire! I love this series! What other Ilona Andrews Series would you recommend? I'm looking for a new one to read. I've requested a few books from Netgalley and never heard back either. It's so frustrating. Have a fun and relaxing week Rachel. I hope you enjoy Mary in Secret.

    1. LOVE Kate Daniels! If you haven't read that then I'm jealous you get to experience it from the beginning. Also, Innkeepers and The Edge series, they're a bit connected so I'd read The Edge first.

I know, I shouldn't complain, because seriously I do have so many other books to read and I end up buying the audio anyhow, too. August is just around the corner. :)

  4. All the rain here this week. I'm not much of a flower fan as they set off the sneezes something fierce but the pictures are pretty.
I didn't even bother requesting Sapphire Flames because I'm out of area and knew I'd be rejected. :( August isn't too far away now! We just need to hang in there...

    1. You are totally right, Nicci, August is just around the corner. I end up buying the audio, too, anyways so my husband and I can listen. :)

  7. Pretty flowers! And congrats on making it through the wedding...for all the joy they bring they do tend to be stressful, hehe.

I really need to try an Illona Andrews book, so many people have recommended them.

  8. Such pretty flowers. I can admire from afar but up close... it's an allergy attack waiting to happen. LOL Glad the wedding went well. And pool time sounds wonderful. It's been too miserable hot here to consider the pool. It hit 100 a couple times this past week and was otherwise in the 90's. Ugh. For some reason I still marvel at the fact that Meg Tilly is an author. :)

  9. The flower mart is gorgeous and I'll bet its heady with scent. Glad your wedding florals went off and now you can relax. Nice stack of reads you got done. My Edelweiss request for Sapphire Flame is still pending and I suspect I won't get picked, too. :(

    Have a good week, Rachel!

  11. The flowers are beautiful! Sorry to hear that you were denied for Sapphire Flames on Edelweiss. I have my fingers crossed you are approved on NetGalley. Too bad about the White Hot movie. I love Sandra Brown so I was excited when I saw you watched it but not after reading your thoughts. Have a great week!

  12. *applause* for your wedding flowers! Glad the event was fun for you too. Denials are so painful. I am crossing my fingers that you get approved on NG.

  14. I’m glad the wedding went well, I’m sure your flower arrangements were beautiful and appreciated.

I’m not up to date on the Hidden Legacy series, otherwise I definitely would have requested Sapphire Flames - I hope you get approved.

    Have a great reading week

  15. Diamond Fire was SO GOOD! I thought it was an excellent transition between characters, and I cannot wait to see how the story progresses from Catalina's perspective. I've already pre-ordered my copy of the next book, and August cannot come soon enough (but it can also wait, because my son starts school and I'm sad). ;)

I loved Silver Silence, and I've been meaning to continue the series! I'm happy to see you enjoyed Wolf Rain. <3

  16. Sorry the movie wasn't that great! Yay for getting through the wedding. It hasn't been too crazy hot where I live yet, which is good because we need to fix the pool still. LOL

  17. Sad to hear about the Sandra Brown show. I like the books, and especially on audiobooks. I always want everything Ilona Andrews ASAP because they are so so good. Sapphire Flames is amazing. I got denied on Edelweiss but I got it on Netgalley. Robin reviewed the audio of Wolf Rain today on our blog.

Have a wonderful week and some great reads!
