Sunday Post #170

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

It has been a busy week of family visiting! Lots of cleaning, planting and chores in preparation for the visit. Thursday my daughter, SIL, grandkids and my son, his wife, my dad, and my youngest sister all came up to Northern California to visit me and my other sister (she lives up here, too). My daughter and her husband and the two grandkids stayed with us while everyone else stayed with my sister.  We visited the historic downtown, shopped, had dinner out and then went to Tahoe to go river rafting. Everyone came over to my house today to check it out and then we went into town again to have lunch.

It's been super hot mid to upper 90s so all the outdoor activities have been sapping my energy. I can't wait until summer is over. I planted a couple of Butterfly Bushes and they really do attract so many butterflies! They're so pretty (see pics below).

Didn't get a lot of reading in, but I enjoyed both books. Heroic Hearts was a collection of fantasy stories that I mainly requested for Dating Terror by Patricia Briggs. Loved Asil's story! There were a lot of other good ones in there, too.

    1. I just saw a temperature graphic of the US and I guess everyone is having high temps! Now we have a gigantic wild fire by Yosemite which is sending smoke our way. We need cooler temps! Thanks, Sophie, you too!

  4. How fun to have so much family visit! I hear you with the heat. I have never been a summer fan, and I remember why every year when we get heatwaves like this. The butterflies are beautiful! I have never seen ones like that. I wonder what kind it is? I loved The Bodyguard too, and I agree, pretty cover, but I wish they made it match all the others. I mean, they "glowed-up" her old covers to match the flower thing.

    1. I need to look up what kind of butterflies they are. They're so pretty. Yeah, I'd like it if they all matched too. I haven't looked, but I wonder if she has a different publisher for the some of them? Maybe that's why they don't match. She did the artwork on some of them herself.

  5. I really need to attack the chores like you have this week. I've been thinking of hiring someone to do a few organizational things for me in the home.

    1. It's so hard to get any services to come out now. I hope you have better luck than we've had here. We've had to tackle a bunch of stuff on our own because everyone is booked out.

  6. Sounds like some great family time! But I'm with you on the heat sapping all energy. Summer is my least favorite season for that reason. I hate the heat plus I don't tolerate it well. It takes a toll. I've never heard of butterfly bushes but they're so pretty!

    1. Yes, I'm already done with summer and we've got two more months! I love the look of the actual bushes, but the fact they attract so many pretty butterflies is a bonus!

  8. I think the heat has been brutal everywhere last week. It was in the 90's here as well. The plants look great and that is so cool that they attract butterflies!

  9. How lovely to have so much of your family around you. Oh, those butterflies and your bush are a gorgeous picture. I thought Asil's story was one of the best in the collection, but the troll one was a wonderful surprise.

    Have a great week, Rachel!

  10. Great you had the family time. Too hot. We are 90-95 which is pretty typical but July and August are not for me. lol The rest of the year is amazing though. I debated about the Julie Garwood book; I'll be interested to see how you liked it. I thought every story in Heroic Hearts was awesome.

    1. I liked most of them. There were a couple I didn't care about. Yes, it's too hot, but the Summer here doesn't last through November like SoCal. I've been looking and it ends mid September like it should.

    1. The river rafting was fun and pretty! The water was too cold for me to get in, lol! I didn't mind the occasional splash, though. :)

  12. Sounds like a wonderful time! And rafting too? Fun! I love being on the river. We used to go canoeing on some of the rivers up north but it's been a while since we did that...

I love the butterfly pics. I should really look up what to plant to attract them since I'd love to have more butterflies hanging around...
