The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.
The new fire in Southern California on Wednesday was scarily close to the house my son just moved from and our old house! We lived about two miles from each other. His old house was in the mandatory evacuation area. They had a lot of aerial support and the nearby lake. Thankfully, it's pretty much out now. I really think arson is at play with all these fires. I guess we'll see.
I got my haircut by a new hairdresser on Monday and I was really pleased! It's been almost three years since my move to Northern California and I have had a difficult time finding someone. I feel like I finally landed with someone good!
I bought several vintage Charles Wysocki puzzles on eBay. I already have a lot, but as I was looking up the name for an old one I worked I came across several I didn't own and went down a rabbit hole of looking for ones I didn't have. I now have six on the way! I usually always have a puzzle out that I'm working on. I do them while listening to audiobooks.

How was your week?
Thanks for reminding me - I want a haircut! The dry weather and static is driving me crazy. We have a hairdresser we like, but I hate parting with my money for what feels like vanity! Glad your son is okay - the fires are horrifying!
ReplyDeleteI think I hate parting with my time more than the money, but that is a thing too, but the new lady was surprisingly fast and good! Yes, thank goodness they're out!
DeleteI need to find a good hairdresser. The last one I used sadly passed away.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sorry to hear that. It's so difficult finding a new one. Good luck in your endeavors!
DeleteIt's hard to believe it's been 3 years since you moved! I just don't cut my hair. lol I'm glad you found a good one. I love those puzzles they are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
I know! In one way it feels like it's been longer, but also just yesterday! It is a pretty puzzle. A lot of fun to put together, too!
DeleteI hope the rain near L.A. might help getting things put out. Glad you moved - your son moved to Montana and you up North three yrs ago? You must be so pleased -- your yard & area are beautiful. We moved 2 years ago now and are so much happier in a more rural area. Thank goodness for moves! It was hard at the time but worth it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the rain put the fires out. No, my son moved to a different part of Southern California. He still owns the house he moved from and was in the middle of renovations when the fire hit. Thankfully, the nearby lake held as a natural barrier and was eventually put out. Thank you! I love where we moved to! It is picturesque and doesn't have the traffic that was slowly killing me! My sister lives up here, too and we're close.
DeleteGlad the haircut is a success - it's a detail that is really important. And so sorry you've had such an anxious time with the fires - I've been horrified at the scenes unfolding on my TV... That jigsaw looks so very beautiful - no wonder you're collecting them! I hope you have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy they're out, but fires in California are always a concern! The puzzle is beautiful and it was a lot of fun to put together.
DeleteThese fires are really frightening Rachel! I am glad the North is spared so far!
ReplyDeleteYes! Let's hope that holds!
DeleteThose fires in SoCal were so scary! I hope they are able to figure out what caused them. And yay for finding a good hairdresser! That's a very happy thing. :D
ReplyDeleteThey were scary! And now with the rains I'm sure they'll be worried about mud slides down there. That is a happy thing! I was going to one woman and I wasn't thrilled with her work so I was happy to finally find someone good!
DeleteThose fires are scary. I really hate fires. Glad that they got it mostly out.
ReplyDeleteSame here, Mary!
DeleteWhen the pandemic closed everything, I started cutting my own hair and somehow I have never gone back to professional haircuts. Once I started thinking about someone who spends all day face to face close with a lot of people, now breathing in my face, I couldn’t unthink it.
ReplyDeletebest… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Yeah, it is something to think about. I have too much hair. I couldn't cut it myself in any way that would look good!
DeleteStay safe my friend.

Thank you, Regine!
DeleteThe fires are terrible, but I am glad your family is safe. It is hard to find a hairdresser. My daughter gets her hair done when she comes back to NJ. She's been in Chicago since 2018 and still has not found someone.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sam! Yes, it is really difficult to find someone! Originally my sister and I started going to one girl and she just didn't work out for us so I'm happy to finally find someone I really like!
DeleteGlad your son's house was okay!! And love the puzzle!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Thank you!
DeleteGlad you all are okay and the fire is under control, even though you don't live in that area anymore. When I'm in Florida I have a hard time finding someone to cut my hair. I have the Jill Shalvis book to read, thanks for the reminder. I used to do puzzles all the time, but now only do them with my granddaughter. I hope you have a wonderful week, Rachel.
ReplyDeleteYes, fires are a concern anywhere in California so seeing them strikes terror in our hearts even if they're not in our neck of the woods. I've gone through years where I've done a lot of puzzles and then I don't. I love working them when I listen to audiobooks now, though. Yes, getting a hairdresser is not an easy thing! Thank you, Carla! I hope you do, too!
DeleteIt sounds like it's been quite a week for you, with the fire danger being a real concern but thankfully turning out okay. I’m so glad your new haircut turned out great; it’s always a win when you finally find a good stylist! The vintage Charles Wysocki puzzles sound like such a fun treasure hunt! It must be so relaxing to work on those while enjoying audiobooks—what a perfect combination for winding down.
ReplyDeleteI invite you to read my new blog post: melodyjacob.com. Have a lovely week ahead.
Thanks! Yes, finding a new, talented stylist is a win! You have a lovely week, too, Melody! I'll check out your new post!
DeleteYikes about the fires! That's a little too close to home even if you're not there anymore.
ReplyDeleteLove the heron pic!
Ooh I'm so behind on Kelley Armstrong! I miss that series! And the Lisa Unger book looks fabulous too.
Yes, the fires are always a big concern for Californians! I'm thrilled I get to see those Great Blue Herons here where I live now!
DeleteThe fires are so horrific. I'm glad you are safe where you are now. Now that the kids have gone back to school, I've been reading more, even some older TBR books.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to see them go, but also nice to have some free/quiet time to read! I need to tackle a few old reads on my TBR!
DeleteIt does take a long time to find a new hairdresser you can trust to get it right! I changed about 18 months ago and recently told him he could do whatever he likes now as I am happy with what he does.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Isn't that a great feeling?! Glad you found someone so talented! You, too!
DeleteI’m in need of a haircut, I used to just do it myself but I prefer layers in summer because it cooler and I can’t do those.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are lovely, so are those puzzles.
Wishing you a happy reading week
Yes, I like layers in my hair too, and I definitely can't to that myself! Thank you! You, too, Shelleyrae!
DeleteWe found the most amazing hairdresser and I'm nervous because she's expecting her third child---I'm always afraid this will be too much for her with a new baby.
ReplyDeleteA puzzle-audiobook combination sounds delightful.
It's awful to think that these fires may have been caused by arson.
Oh, I'd be nervous too! Hopefully, she'll still be able to do your hair! Working puzzles is a lot of fun when I'm listening to audios! It is awful, but it happens a lot out here!
DeleteI am glad you and your family are safe. Fires getting that close is so scary. Yay for finding a hairdresser you like! It's been ages since I read a Jill Shalvis novel. I really enjoy her books. I hope you enjoy your reading and have a great week, Rachel!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope you enjoy your week too!
DeleteGood to hear your son and family were safe.
ReplyDeleteThose puzzles look beautiful.
Thank you!
DeleteThat would sure send shivers down your spine to see that proximity to you and your son's old homes.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had at least one read that rose above the mediocre.
Way to go scoring the six puzzles. I've been puzzle mad these last two weeks during our severe cold snap.
Have a good week, Rachel!
It did! Yes, it's nice to work them when you can't really get out. Thank you, Sophia! I hope you have a good week, too!
DeleteThe fires are incredibly scary. Thank goodness you and your son don’t live that close anymore. It’s hard to find a good stylist. I don’t cut my hair that often and just wait until I can see my sister. I have curly hair and lots of people don’t know how to deal with it. Puzzles and audiobooks sound like a great pairing! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGlad you have someone to trust with your hair! It is a great combo! You, too, Carla!
DeleteI used to see about the fires on tiktok, but then it went dark in the US and now nothing. And the news says nothing
ReplyDeleteI think TikTok is back up, right? I don't get on there but my husband does and he said it's back up.
DeleteI'm happy to hear your son was okay through the fires! I totally relate to you're struggle to find a hairdresser. When I moved 5 years ago, I left behind a great barber. I'm still on the hunt all these years later, and I'm someone who gets a haircut monthly!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a long time not to find someone, especially for how often you go! I hope you do, eventually. My husband finally found someone he liked about a year ago.
