Top Ten Tuesday & TMST

This week I'm combining two weekly Tuesday memes:

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post where bloggers discuss a wide range of topics from books and blogging to life in general. For info on TMST click HERE.

This week's topic: What is your least favorite thing about winter?

I don't mind the cold, but honestly in Northern California we don't get the bitter cold with temps below zero hardly ever or at all (average high & low 53/34 for winter), so there is that.

My least favorite thing about winter is that lack of blooming flowers. The garden is sparse and a lot of trees are bare, but I know this is a time of replenishing, building snow pack, water stores, and a rest for all things growing.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Artsy Reader where each week they post a new top ten list and ask fellow bookish folk to share their lists on that topic.

This week the theme is for Top Ten Tuesday is: 2024 Releases I Was Excited to Read but Still Haven’t Gotten To:

    1. I don't mind the winter either. We get snow, but not like other places in the US. I don't mind it if I don't have to drive in it!

  2. I appreciate your thought about it being the blooming and for me also fresh vegetables that I dislike about winter.

I have read the Shalvis, Slaughter, Gardner an Pekkanan books. I highly recommend especially the Slaughter and Gardner books but I enjoyed them all.

  3. In January, we got snow and bitter cold here in Virginia, more of each than we have seen in several years. And today, it's 66, which is pleasant but unseasonably high. I should go out for a walk!

I did want to read the The Summer Escape this year, but I didn't get around to it either. Some of your thrillers look good, too, though I'm always cautious with thrillers; some can be too dark or anxiety-inducing for me. Anyway, I hope you're able to read some of these in 2025!

    1. Nice that you have a bit of nice weather for a break! I hope we both get to The Summer Escape. I have to be careful with thrillers, too. I don't like the dark, graphically disturbing ones. They stay with me!

  4. For me it's the cold. I'm the Bay Area, but still winter can get cool. I also guess it's the rainy season too for winter. I just don't care for overcast weather. This year has been a bit colder then usually with frost warnings.

Some great books on your list. For me I still haven't read Bloodguard, The Games Gods Play, Gilded Wings, The Lovely Dark, and many more from 2024 releases. All on the list. ^_^
    Happy Reading!

    1. It is a wet kind of cold in the Bay Area, that feels colder somehow! Hope you get to all the books you wish you read!

  5. I hope you like all of them!

I’m not a big fan of winter, but having a break from seasonal allergies is really nice.

  6. I liked both The Gathering and Daughter of Mine. I thought they were fun suspenseful reads. And my least favorite things about winter are the gloomy gray skies where the sun never comes out...and shoveling snow! But I haven't had to do any of that this winter, so that's good. :D

    1. I'm looking forward to both of them! Happy to hear you enjoyed them. I wouldn't like shoveling snow, either! :)

  7. Yessssss! It's the lack of flowers for me too. Blooms make me happy and I struggle with winter.

  9. I’m curious about House of Glass.

The dry air bothers me about winter!

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

    1. We don't have a lot of dry air here. Things stay pretty wet, but I know what you mean and don't like it.

  10. I already read both the Slaughter and Gardner books and they were really good. I almost put Daughter of Mine and Outlaw Noble Salt on my list, but I already has 12. I hope you enjoy all of these, Rachel. I one thing I dislike about winter is the gray sky and misty, rainy days which we get a lot of in Southern Ontario. That is why I'm in Florida.

    1. Yes! You escape all that during the winter! Happy to hear you're enjoying a nicer climate in Florida!

  11. The lack of leaves on the trees always makes me sad. They are pretty for the few hours after it snows, and then they are back to being so dead looking.

I picked up a few books last year and hope to read them for this year's TBR challenge. One that I was most excited for: Wing Dancer by Allyson James. I'm finally reading it now.

  12. Oh yes, I am always eager when spring brings the pretty blooms back each year.

I loved that Amy Harmon and the Mary Connealy on your list. So many great books last year that I'm still catching up on, too.

I miss seeing all the butterflies in the winter.

  14. I haven't read any of these, but the covers for that Jill Shalvis series are gorgeous (not just because of the dogs...but those definitely enhance it).

  15. I haven't read any of these and that's mainly because I strayed away from thrillers due to a genre bore-out :)

  16. So true. Not many flowers around here in the winter ;) Sometimes if you are lucky you might spot something in March, or it takes until April for that one spring flower

  17. I hate it. I cannot get warm and my bones and muscles ache.

  18. You have some nice winter weather in your parts. I also will be reading the Shalvis. Her books never fail to please me. I hope all of them are hits for you.
