Ravenous (Quantum #5) by M.S. Force
Publication Date: August 23rd 2016
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | iBooks | Google Play | Kobo

About the book:

A stand-alone Quantum story from New York Times bestselling author M.S. Force!

She wants a baby. He wants her. Simple enough, right?

Ellie Godfrey has kissed her share of frogs. So many, in fact, that she fears she won’t recognize her prince if and when he finally comes along. Tired of waiting for THE ONE, Ellie decides to have a baby on her own before it’s too late.

When Jasper Autry hears about Ellie’s plan, what else can he do but step in and offer to “contribute” to her project. Does that make him an opportunist? Whatever. He wants the perpetually out-of-reach Ellie Godfrey, and when he sees his chance, he takes it. That she’s the sister of his business partner and close friend Flynn gives him pause, but it doesn’t stop him from having what he wants.

As Jasper and Ellie embark upon their secret “project,” he makes it clear that for as long as they’re together, he’s in charge—in the bedroom anyway. After the hottest sex of her life, Ellie realizes she’s made a deal with the devil himself.

Warning: If you hate foul-mouthed heroes who like it a little rough and dirty, this might not be the book for you…Contains hot and sexy BDSM scenes among other things that might not appeal to the faint of heart. Enter at your own risk and enjoy!

Life coach and best-selling author Victoria Price has it all: a successful career, fabulous friends, a fantastic penthouse in Manhattan. What she doesn’t have—and doesn’t want—is a husband. Fifteen years ago her high school flame broke her heart so badly she swore she’d never love again. Now she makes millions teaching other women how to be just like her: a ruthless bitch.

Drop-dead sexy restauranteur and infamous playboy Parker Maxwell has only three rules for the women he dates: no questions about his past, no expectations for the future, and no spending the night. When he meets Victoria, however, he’s willing to break his own rules if it means sating the explosive desire she arouses in him. What he doesn’t know is that the alluring Victoria Price used to be the mousy Isabel Diaz, the girl he deflowered and dumped long ago.

Review: Everywhere and Every Way by Jennifer Probst

Publication Date: May 31st 2017 by Gallery Books
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

About the book:

Hot on the heels of her beloved Marriage to a Billionaire novels, New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst nails it with the first in an all-new sexy romance series featuring red-hot contractor siblings who give the Property Brothers a run for their money!

Ever the responsible eldest brother, Caleb Pierce started working for his father’s luxury contracting business at a young age, dreaming of one day sitting in the boss’s chair. But his father’s will throws a wrench in his plans by stipulating that Caleb share control of the family business with his two estranged brothers.

Things only get more complicated when demanding high-end home designer Morgan hires Caleb to build her a customized dream house that matches her specifications to a T—or she’ll use her powerful connections to poison the Pierce brothers’ reputation. Not one to ignore a challenge, Caleb vows to get the job done—if only he can stop getting distracted by his new client’s perfect…amenities.

But there’s more to icy Morgan than meets the eye. And Caleb’s not the only one who knows how to use a stud-finder. In fact, Morgan is pretty sure she’s found hers—and he looks quite enticing in a hard hat. As sparks fly between Morgan and Caleb despite his best intentions not to mix business and pleasure, will she finally warm up and help him lay the foundation for everlasting love?

My Thoughts:
Cal Pierce is forced to work with his two estranged brothers, Dalton and Tristan, after his father dies, per an iron-clad will.  There’s bad blood between these brothers and they haven’t been around each other much for the past six years.  They’ve got one year to work it out and turn a profit or they lose the family business.

Morgan is an interior designer with high end clientele, and is known for making dreams homes into reality through her work. Her current project will be her most demanding which is why she wants Pierce Brothers with their uncompromising reputation to build the house. When she meets Cal Pierce there’s an immediate, fierce attraction. He’s not the most handsome man she’s met, but he exudes a rough masculinity that calls to her! Cal is attracted, as well.  Morgan seems like a too perfect Southern Belle who needs a little messing up.

This story started off slow for me, and it wasn’t until the 50% mark that I became fully invested in the characters and the romance. Part of that was because Morgan and Cal danced around each other up until that point. My other issue was the page time devoted to details of building and decorating, and getting sidetracked with other characters instead of focusing on Morgan and Cal’s relationship. I will say once Cal and Morgan got together it was pretty steamy!

Cal was a serious guy, mostly involved with the Pierce Brothers Construction business, and not a player at all, and I adored him! Even though I wasn’t thrilled with how Morgan maneuvered things in the beginning, she quickly grew on me. She went through something pretty horrific at a young age, and dealt with heartbreak, but she got through it stronger, finding happiness in excelling at her business.  No wallowing in self-pity for Morgan. I admire people with a strong work ethic who take pride in doing a job right, and both Morgan and Cal had that in common.

The brotherly connection was a struggle for me, and until very late in the story I didn’t know if they could work things out.  I really couldn’t blame Cal for monitoring Dalton in the business. Dalton acted like a child for the most part and I wouldn’t have trusted him on his own either. As for their personal issues, I wish I would’ve known the details earlier on so I didn’t have such a bad impression of Dalton for most of the book.  By the end, though, I was sold on them becoming a family again, and happy with how things turned out.

Review: Desire After Dark by Marie Force

Publication Date: May 23rd 2016
Purchase Links: Kindle | iBooks | Nook | Amazon Paperback | Kobo | Googleplay

About the book:

Tobias “Slim” Jackson has the perfect life as a pilot on Gansett Island in the summer and in Florida in the winter. He’s happiest when he’s in the air, or at least that was the case before last summer when he met Erin Barton, Gansett Island’s newest lighthouse keeper. Now he can’t seem to find his usual enthusiasm for flying, winter in the sunny South or anything that doesn’t include her.

Erin has been stuck on pause since she lost her twin brother. She’ll tell you herself that her life has been a hot mess since Toby died. After dropping out of law school, she’s flitted from one pointless job to another, existing rather than truly living. Then she comes to Gansett Island to take over as the new lighthouse keeper and meets Slim, who happens to share her beloved brother’s first name. That small coincidence is enough to convince Erin that she needs to spend more time with the dashing pilot—except for the fact that he’s spending the winter more than a thousand miles from her.

Now Slim’s come home to Gansett for the holidays and to hopefully pick up where he left off with Erin. He’s got twelve days before he’s due back in Florida to finish out the remainder of his winter obligations. A lot can happen in twelve days, but will it be enough to convince Erin that it’s time to start truly living again? Read Slim and Erin’s story and catch up with the rest of the Gansett Island cast in Desire After Dark!

My Thoughts:
I’ve fallen for Marie Force’s writing in the Green Mountain series, and her knack for making small towns and big families so appealing.  I’ve only read one of The McCarthys of Gansett Island series, and it was some time ago, but I enjoyed getting back on the island, and falling into one of Ms. Force’s delicious romances.

Erin Barton has lived through the epic tragedy of losing her twin brother in 9/11. Still, fifteen years later she has periods of darkness and hang-ups.  Struggles with OCD (although, her case seemed to be mild), fear of flying, and the worry that anything good in her life will be snatched away continue to plague Erin.  Slim Jackson, the sexy pilot who rescued her after she twisted an ankle last summer, seems too good to be true, but the last four months they’ve been separated they’ve been keeping in touch every single day through texts and Face Time, and Erin begins to fall hard.  Slim’s coming back to the island for the holidays so they’ll have twelve days to figure out if they truly have something worth a go.

Slim’s never felt the desire to commit or settle down, but sweet, sexy, cautious Erin has him changing his mind.  He was taken with her from the moment they first met and his desire has only grown in the months they’ve got to know each other.  Slim knows Erin has some fears and doubts, but he’s hoping their twelve days together will convince her to take a chance on him and love.

Ms. Force makes the pages sizzle with Erin and Slim’s hot and sweet romance!  Even though I found Erin’s hang-ups a little trying at first, I could understand how someone could get stuck in the emotional rut she did.  Slim was patient, understanding, and irresistible!  I had little doubt Erin would succumb to this sexy pilot and his push for more.

Even though I’ve only read Janey and Joe’s story some time ago, I enjoyed all the other romances contained in Desire After Dark, the sexy times they shared, humor and high jinks. I hardly noticed I hadn’t been in on their original stories.  I’m sure any fan of the McCarthys of Gansett Island series will adore Erin and Slim’s romance in addition to all the updates on past couples.  The strong bonds between family and friends were very moving.

On 50 Books and 50 Years: Things I Know for Sure
By: Marie Force
This week marks a major milestone in my publishing career. Desire After Dark is my 50th book, and it releases 17 days before my 50th birthday. To those who would ask, I didn’t plan that. Like many things in this life, it just sort of worked out that way. I wish I could say I’d written a book a year, but in fact most of them have been written in the last five frantic years that have gone by like a flash.
I thought this 50-50 combination platter was a good time to reflect on what I’ve learned writing 50 books and living for a half century. (God, it sounds DREADFUL when I put it that way!) So in no particular order, here’s what I know for sure halfway through my life. Note to my kids: I intend to stick around for the entire second 50, so batten down the hatches.

1.      I’m acutely and painfully aware that too many of my high school classmates didn’t live to be 50, so I’m thankful for every day I’ve spent on the right side of the ground. I’m not planning on indulging in a middle-age funk or crisis or anything like that because being 50 certainly beats the alternative.
2.      I’ve accepted that my arms are never going to look like Michelle Obama’s guns. I’m learning to live with that and letting them out to see the world more often than I used to, taking comfort in the fact that they are still smaller than my thighs. I’ve also learned that eating salt and vinegar potato chips makes me happy, so I will continue to eat them in my second 50 years. This is nonnegotiable as is my relentless war against all forms of chin hair.
3.      My mom had a magnet on her fridge declaring that FIFTY IS PRIME TIME. I believe that. This time next year, my youngest will graduate from high school and next fall he will head off to college, leaving his parents with now two empty bedrooms and hearts full of memories. In my fifties, I’ll be able to do just about anything I want any time I want. If that’s not PRIME TIME, I don’t know what is.
4.      That said, being a mother has been the greatest thrill ride of my life. There is, simply, nothing better in my world than my two wonderful kids, who are both better people than I could ever hope to be. No matter what they do or don’t do or achieve, all I care about is that they are healthy and happy and productive. The rest is up to them, and I can’t wait to see what they get done while I sit in my tub and eat bon bons, knowing I was never a perfect mother, but I always tried to be a fun mom and I did my very best for them always.
5.      Family is everything. Parents, siblings, cousins, close family, extended family—if you got lucky in the family department like I did, then you know what I mean. They know you better than anyone and don’t let you get away with anything, which is actually a good thing—until they tell people you look like Nick Nolte’s mug shot in the morning with photographic evidence to prove their point. I’m grateful for the brother who has traveled all but one year of this journey with me as well as our posse of cousins who made us feel like we had a huge family when it was only the two of us.
6.      I honestly believe the outcome of your entire life can be determined by who you are born to. I was born to two of the best, and they are as much responsible for the life I have today as I am.
7.      Friends who stick with you through bad times—and good—are worth holding on to. Everyone is there for the bad times. The ones who show up during the especially good times, who share in your joy selflessly and without reservation, are the people you want on your journey with you. I have been enormously blessed in the friend department.
8.      I also got lucky in the husband department. We don’t always see eye to eye (what fun would that be?), but I always know I can count on him and so do our kids. He gives me Valentine’s Day cards that say things like “I’m still not sick of you,” which is the perfect sort of card for the nonromantic romance author. And his family is rather awesome, too.
9.      I’m grateful every day for the series of fortunate events that led to my career as an author. If you had told me at 40 that THIS would be 50, I probably would’ve laughed myself senseless at your delusions of grandeur on my behalf. However… Here I am with 50 titles to my name, 5 million books sold, 22 times on the New York Times list, my closest friends and family members working with me, a new house that Mac McCarthy bought for my family and a life that five years after it happened still feels like a dream in progress. For that I thank the readers who’ve taken my books to heart and me along with them. You have made all of this happen, and I never lose sight of that fact. I’ve also learned that never allowing myself to be entirely satisfied with where I am at the moment can lead to new challenges that broaden and expand my sense of the possible.
10.  I have learned that I can do just about everything right, be the best possible friend/family member/colleague/author (fill in your own blank) I know how to be, and it won’t be enough for some people. What I know at 50 is that I’ll never make everyone happy. I’ve learned to be okay with that and to know FOR SURE that if I can make myself and those who matter most to me a little happy every day, then I’m doing something right. And that is more than enough for me.

Here’s to the next 50 books and the next 50 years. As Sam Holland would say, bring it on.

Review: Sustained by Emma Chase

Publication Date: August 25th 2015 by Gallery Books
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | iBooks | BAM | IndieBound | Google

About the book:

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

My Thoughts:
Jake Becker is driven, smart, cutthroat lawyer, all about making it to partner in his firm without distractions.  But when a smart-ass nine-year old steals his wallet, his life is thrown off-course, and smack into the middle of the McQuaid’s chaos.  And we get to sit back and enjoy the show. Let the fun begin!

Chelsea McQuaid was so sweet and selfless.  My heart went out to her right away. At only twenty-six, Chelsea put her life on hold and took on raising six kids on her own all the while battling her own grief.  Jake’s only been about looks and sex, not caring to know anything about the women he slept with, but he couldn’t help but admire Chelsea especially when circumstances kept pushing them together. Although, it seemed Jake was more than willing to jump in and help Chelsea and this big brood of children in spite of himself, and my heart warmed every single time!

Jake is the arrogant jerk you can’t help but fall for, because underneath it all beats a sincere heart, whether he’d admit to it or not. Although, I did want to shake some sense in him more than a few times, especially when he pulled some wishy washy moves!! A nice slap upside the head might’ve made me feel better and done him some good!  But like I said, I still couldn’t help but fall for him.

Being inside Jake’s mind was hilarious! Just re-reading some of the passages before writing this review had me laughing all over again.

“How many kids live in this house exactly?” I ask the aunt. It’s starting to feel like they’re cockroaches –see one, and you can bet there’s fifty more crawling around inside the walls. I shiver at the thought.
“Six.”
Six? I’m guessing Robert McQuaid didn’t have many hobbies.

Jake and Chelsea’s romance built up at a slow, steady burn.  Every time Jake stepped in to help you could see their connection building, and the tender feelings exchanged. With six kids around it’s a little difficult to buy out time, but there was no way to ignore the attraction.

Chelsea walks toward the door that leads into the kitchen but stops before exiting. Looking over her shoulder back at me, her reddish hair glowing like gold in the firelight, she raises an eyebrow. “So…you’re not trying to seduce me?”
I meet her gaze head-on. And wink. “I didn’t say that.”

We’re treated to lusty stolen kisses and more, guaranteed to get your blood racing!

The kids were super cute, all six of them! Kids have a way of cutting through all the bullshit and getting to the heart of the matter, and Jake needed that a few times. Seeing Jake deal with them was hilarious!

I notice his ass feels heavy.
Wet.
I look at his sister. “I think he needs to be changed.”
Her face turns wary and she raises her little hands. “Don’t look at me. I’m just a kid.”
“Now you play the kid card?” I ask her.
She shrugs without pity.

With every moment he spends with the McQuaid brood, Jake falls a little harder in love with Chelsea and the kids.

I adored Sustained!  Emma Chase combined clever, laugh-out-loud humor with a sexy romance, and the mix was oh-so-much fun. I was laughing and grinning throughout the story!
