Waves of Sunday #79

Welcome to our weekly edition of Waves of Sunday where each Sunday we spotlight a book that has been making waves in the book scene or has simply caught our attention causing a riptide on our TBR.
Today we are spotlighting:
Published March 24th 2015
Fisher,
I guess this is it, huh? After fourteen years together, starting a life of our own on this island, five deployments and countless letters I’ve written you through it all, I finally go out to the mailbox and see something I’ve always dreamed of: an envelope with your handwriting on it. For one moment, I actually thought you’d changed your mind, that all the awful things you said to me were just your way of coping after everything you’d been through. I was still here, Fisher. I was still here, holding my breath, waiting for you to come back even though you told me you never would. You always said you’d find your way back to me. Out of all the lies you’ve told me, this one hurts the most.

Enclosed you will find the signed divorce papers, as requested.
I hope you find what you’re looking for. I’m sorry it wasn’t me.
Lucy

To get the ending they want, Lucy and Fisher will have to go back to the beginning. Through the good and the bad, they’ll be reminded of why they always made their way back to each other, and why this time, one way or another, it will be the last time.

Arlene's Thoughts
Fisher's Light has a few things going for it right off the bat.  First off, I'm a fan of Tara Sivec. I've read a few of her novels and know that she's an amazing writer whether she's attempting to be funny, emotional or simply relatable.  Second, I enjoy reading books with military themes, and couple that with a soldier that sounds like he's nursing some battle scars that are tearing him apart, I already know my heart is going to fall to pieces for Fisher. Lastly, I have to believe that the raving reviews are on to something, so I can't wait to find out how Fisher's Light turns out. I have a feeling it's going to be an emotional roll a coaster! Watch out!

About the book
Addison Snow is your typical teenager. She has a family that loves her, friends that make her laugh, and she's wrapped up in the excitement of graduating high school and going off to college to pursue her dream of becoming an author. When her mother, who also happens to be Addison's best friend, dies unexpectedly, her world comes to a crashing halt.
Death changes everyone...

To make the pain go away, Addison and her father travel down separate, dark paths. She chooses to end her grief forever, while he drowns his sorrows in the bottom of a bottle. How do you learn to live again when the most important person in your life is gone?

Addison struggles to pick up the pieces of her life. Instead of getting back to being the carefree teenager she once was, she's stuck handling all of the responsibilities that should have been her father's. She has no time to grieve, no time for emotions, and no time for happiness...until Zander Reinhardt walks in. All it takes is one little handwritten note on a napkin to kickstart her back to life and help her realize that maybe there's more to that life than pain.

But can it really be that simple? Can she really trust this man who makes her feel alive again for the first time in a year?

Addison and Zander both have secrets they aren't ready to share. When the truth finally comes out, is it enough to tear them apart or has something bigger than themselves always been watching over them, pushing them together, making sure they both get their happily ever after?

About the book
Brady Marshall has made a career of playing it safe. When he decides to do something rash and becomes

a Navy SEAL, he thinks he's finally escaped the rigid structure of the high society life his parents forced down his throat. All he does is trade in one set of rules for another. He follows military protocol to a T, but it still results in the death of an entire team of Navy SEALS and puts his best friends directly in harm's way. He’s struggled to stay afloat and not drown in grief, guilt, and booze, but he's losing that battle quickly. When his baby sister flees her abusive husband and shows up on his doorstep with his young niece in tow, he has no choice but to clean up his act. He will stop at nothing to protect them and never let them down again, even if it means taking a job that goes against everything he believes in. If protecting a pop star princess who thinks she's better than everyone means he can keep a roof over their head, what other choice does he have?

Layla Carlysle has lived a life of luxury. She's been a star since the young age of fifteen, and every record she releases shoots straight to the top of the charts. She has people surrounding her every single day telling her how amazing she is, how beautiful she is, and how lucky she is, but she’s never felt more alone in her entire life. She wants nothing more than to break free and do what she really wants to do: write her own music, sing her own songs, and find a way to finally be happy with her life. The only thing standing in her way is her mother, Eve Carlysle. Eve has controlled every single aspect of her daughter’s life and will stop at nothing to achieve fame and fortune, even if that means using her daughter to get there. When an overlyamorous fan’s letters become increasingly more sinister, Brady will have to suck up his opinion of how the other half lives to take the job seriously. The pair will need to learn to trust each other and put aside their differences before the letters become a reality and someone’s life is in jeopardy.

Brady has been to hell and back, and he refuses to let anyone else get close to him again. Layla has never lived her life for herself, and the emptiness is threatening to break her for good.

Sometimes our lives are already planned for us, but because of you, all of that could change in an instant.
My Thoughts
It’s easy to forget about all of the bad memories when the one shining light in your life is back and brighter than ever. It’s easy to forgive the hurts and disappointments when the only thing you’ve ached for is standing right there in front of you.

Because of You is the second installment in Tara Sivec’s Playing with Fire series, and I’m happy to share that she’s done it again. Brady and Layla’s story was a perfect representation of what Sivec does best… which is to command the reader’s attention and entertain us with a well-developed plot and extremely likable characters.

For fans of her Chocolate Lover series, again I must say - don’t expect to get the laugh out loud moments and silly scenes that had us cringing and guffawing in laughter. With Because of You, plan to engage in a storyline that’s filled with steamy moments, serious action and constant intrigue.

I will admit that despite this being the second installment in the Playing with Fire series leaving me to assume that I should know what to expect, I was still somewhat waiting for Sivec to bust out her funny side. However, I think it’s just fun to know that Sivec can shift her style with grace, but still deliver those hints of what else she’s capable of. Talented author!!

In Because of You, we meet Layla Page Carlysle a pop star sensation with a stalker that has become increasing more dangerous. As a result, Brady Marshall is hired on as a Private Investigator to track down the man whose threats to Layla force her staff to take serious notice.

Brady has a tainted past with his career. He was part of a blotched Navy SEAL assignment that resulted in some of his close friends being killed. And later when he took on a position in the police department, a wrong move cost him his partner and two innocent victims in a domestic violence call. Needless to say, Brady has a tough weight to balance on his shoulders that only gets more complicated when his sister and niece come to him for protection.

When he lands Layla’s assignment, Brady feels he has a lot to prove with no room for error. As Layla and Brady spend more time together, they strike up a complicated romance that not only endangers the person he’s assigned to protect, but also the people that have come to depend on him.

Truly a great story that had me furiously turning the ePages with enthusiasm. I loved that Sivec altered her narrative style in this book, which was alternating first perspectives between Layla and Brady. It was exciting to see through the eyes and minds of these two as their action packed story unfolded. First person narrative is Sivec’s strong suit and I hope she continues to capitalize on it.

Brady Marshall… oh Brady Marshall!!! What a treat! As much as I loved Garrett in book one of this series, which was a LOT, I loved Brady ten times more in this book. His passion, commitment and flaws made for the perfect complement to Layla’s broken and empty life. I loved seeing these two come together and battle their demons with courage.

Overall, I’m a huge fan of Sivec. She has the ability to make me laugh, keep me entertained and hook me with her characters. She’s proven her skill as a writer IMHO and I can’t wait for her next installment. Pure joy!

About the book

Drew and Jenny have spent years being the envy of their friends with their out of control sex lives - well, not really. Mostly it makes their friends want to throw up in their mouths a little.

With two little kids and two busy lives, for the first time, Drew and Jenny aren't on the same page in the bedroom. Drew will stop at nothing to get his previously amorous wife back in the sack, and Jenny will do anything for a full night of sleep.

Carter and Claire, and Jim and Liz are their usual (un)helpful selves and are full of advice for the discontented duo, wanting nothing more than to help restore order to the usually happy couple's lives.

In the third and final installment of the Chocolate Lovers Series, will Drew and Jenny find the spark that's been missing in their marriage, or will the trouble they're having cause a stickier situation than the time Jenny poured honey all over Drew and he fused himself to a tree?

My Thoughts
Troubles and Treats was a perfect addition to the Chocolate Lovers series!! I absolutely adored this book to pieces!! Tara Sivec proves once again that she can deliver a romantic comedy that's both sexy and laugh-your-ass-off hilarious. I loved absolutely every cringe-worthy moment and comedic sexy seduction Sivec included in this story. With a perfect blend of awesome characters and witty dialog, it's reading entertainment at its finest.
This installment to the Chocolate Lovers series is told from the perspective of Drew and Jenny. They've been a part of this series from the very beginning as secondary characters, so it was great to see them take center stage in this book. The timing of this story is about seven years after the last installment, and Drew and Jenny are struggling with putting the spark back into their love life after having two kids. They both stumble and fall as they make constant mistakes when trying to get back what they once had.
Drew was the perfect narrator for this book. I loved his mental dialog and funny reactions throughout the book. Some of the stuff that went through his head has me laughing out loud in hysterics!! I've always wanted to get inside of Jenny's head as well because as Sivec fans might remember, Jenny seems to always be a bit off with her comments. To finally see her thought process really provided some endearing moments and I just came to like her so much more.
Troubles and Treats is light on the sexy (until the later chapters) but heavy on the comedy. Don't be fooled though, there's constant romantic moments that despite their failed attempts really prove that these two characters have the chemistry to light up the pages.
This book is signature style funny and sexy, which Sivec has been branded for; and I can't wait to see what else this author has in store for us. Loved this book!

Author Interview
Waves of Fiction had the pleasure of interviewing Tara Sivec. Take a look at what she has to share about her writing and projects.
Okay to say your books have made a bit of a splash on the book scene feels like the understatement of the year! Surprised? Shocked? Expected? What's been your reaction to your success?
Absolutely amazed and in total shock! This was just going to be something fun to do to see if anyone would read what I wrote. I never expected it to take off like it has. Every single day I squeal at some point when I read an email or someone posts to me on Facebook and my husband wants to kill me when, every hour, I scream to him to come into my office and see what someone wrote.
For aspiring writers what piece of advice would you offer them?
Don’t be discouraged if you get rejected. I found out through this process that it’s kind of a miracle to get a book published when you are a nobody and just sending in samples to literary agents. The self-publishing world is taking over and it is absolutely amazing. I am so proud to be a part of it with so many other wonderful authors and friends.
When you're not writing, what do you like to spend your time doing?
Well, I LIKE to spend my time reading. But more often than not lately, I’m spending my non-writing time editing, answering emails, doing interviews, jotting down ideas for future novels, etc. etc. I need to get in on that cloning action.
Romantic, sexy comedy seems to be your strong point. Have you ever considered writing in another genre? If so, what would you like to experiment with?
I am jumping head first into romantic suspense. It is my absolute favorite genre to read. My first romantic suspense novel is called “A Beautiful Lie” and will be out on January 3rd.
I loved the cast of Seduction and Snacks! Carter and Claire were the perfect pair! What or who inspired you to write their story?
A lot of the events/conversations in all 3 books have happened at one point or another in my life with family and friends. I would make notes of them here and there and even kept a Facebook page filled with just the funny things my kids would say or do. It got to the point where people kept telling me I needed to write a book about all that stuff.
So for those of us anxiously awaiting Troubles and Treats, can you share with your readers your favorite quote from the book?
“And I don’t care if you want to spoop in my toilet every single day, man. My toilet is your toilet; your spoop is my spoop.”
What's something different that we can expect in Troubles and Treats from what we've enjoyed so far?
Drew and Jenny flashbacks. You’ll get an inside look at their relationship early on.
Lastly.... Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate? =}
Neither! White chocolate :)

Thank you so much Tara Sivec for joining us here at Waves of Fiction!

Review: Futures and Frosting by Tara Sivec

Futures and Frosting (Chocolate Lovers #2) by Tara Sivec
Published September 13th 2012 by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform
About the book
Carter, Claire and Gavin have formed the perfect little family. Their friends are getting married and everyone is growing up, maturing and ready to face the future. Or are they?

From bachelorette party hell, porn addictions, dinner roll baseball and botched wedding proposals to finding out everyone's extended family is chock full of crazy, Carter and Claire begin to question the strength of the ties that bind them. Unfortunately, these ties have nothing to do with fuzzy handcuffs and everything to do with the mounting differences between them.

Will their friends make a mess of things with their inappropriate comments and need to know everything, or will they convince the couple that happily-ever-after sometimes really can start with beer pong.

My Thoughts
What a fun book! Claire and Carter are officially one of my all time favorite fictional couples! I love the chemistry between these two characters! That, along with their hilarious banter and ongoing comedy of mishaps, just keeps me coming back for more. If you loved Seduction and Snacks and couldn’t stop making a fool of yourself by laughing like a goof, you definitely need to jump into Futures and Frosting for more cringe-worthy antics, funny as hell dialog and steamy moments that makes this book a perfectly balanced gem of entertainment. Loved it!

Futures and Frosting picks up right where Seduction and Snacks left off. Claire and Carter have been together for over three months, and things are going great. Now if only Carter could capture the right moment to propose to Claire without a series of mishaps foiling his plans, he’d soon realize how ready she really is to take their relationship to the next level.

Overall, it was great re-visiting this cast of characters. Every single one of them has a unique personality and form of amusement to offer their audience. However, I have to say the interaction between Gavin and Drew is priceless. I find myself constantly laughing out loud at their twisted relationship and unique brand of clothing.

It was also great to spend some time with Claire and Carter to see how truly perfect they are for each other. Despite Carter’s too-good-to-be-true moments, he makes the perfect fictional boyfriend in my book. Sequels after a happily-ever-after can sometimes be a sticky situation or complete miss for an author, but Sivec truly knows how to mix her sweet, sassy and sexy to remind you she has what it takes to entertain her readers. Enjoyed it much!

Excerpt from the Book
Warning: Reading in public may bring unwanted attention due to cringe-worthy facials and hysterical laughter. Unless you're okay with looking foolish in public, feel free to continue.. Oh and it has a bit of fuckwittery Sivec style. =} Enjoy!

Basically, I’m afraid to have sex with my husband. He’s always loved my vagina. He even has a shirt that says “I love my wife’s vagina”. What if having sex with me now is like fucking a bowl of Jell-O Jigglers? That is not at all hot. Especially if they’re green Jell-O Jigglers. I’m not saying my vagina is green, but I’m sure it’s jiggly. I shook it a little when I looked at it in the mirror and it definitely wiggled when it jiggled.

Vagina’s should never jiggle.

Review: Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec

Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec
Published June 11th 2012 eBook
Purchase: Amazon
About the book
Claire is a twenty-something, single mom that grudgingly helps her best friend sell sex toys while she attempts to make enough money to start her own business to give her foul-mouthed, but extremely loveable (when he's asleep) toddler a better life.

When Carter, the one-night-stand from her past that changed her life forever, shows up in her hometown bar without any recollection of her besides her unique chocolate scent, Claire will make it a point that he remembers her this time.

With Carter's undisguised shock at suddenly finding out he has a four-year-old son and Claire's panic that her stretch marks and slim to none bedroom experience will send the man of her dreams heading for the hills, the pair will do whatever they can to get their happily ever after.

Warning: contains explicit sex, profanity and enough sarcasm to choke a horse.

My Thoughts
I kept coming across all of these reviews saying how funny Seduction and Snacks is and the ratings were out of control, so I had to give it a try. AND holy chocolate lollipops were the reviews ever right!!

This book is HILARIOUS.AS.HALE!! I haven’t laughed this hard over a book… EVER!! I mean grant it some of the content is contrived and silly, but simply because Sivec catches a perfect stride in her narration does she manage to keep the reader entertained and doubling over in laughter. It’s really not a book you should read in public or while others in your family are trying to sleep because if you’re not making those cringy faces you’re guffawing like a fool because the funny just doesn’t quit.

Seduction and Snacks kicked my book slump to the curb. I finished it in two short days, and I can’t wait to read the next book. Tara Sivec commands my attention and keeps me laughing from cover to cover with her ongoing antics and great dialog.

Seriously, if you’re having a bad day or simply wanted something different and funny, give this book a try. I dare you not to laugh. =]
