Review: Finding Eden (A Sign of Love) by Mia Sheridan

Finding Eden (A Sign of Love) by Mia Sheridan
Published October 5th 2014
Finding Eden is the continuation, and conclusion, to Becoming Calder.

When the world as you know it has ended, when all that you love has been washed away, where do you find strength?

When the new world you've stepped into is as isolating as the last, when your heart is broken, and your future is unclear, where do you find hope?

Finding Eden is a story of strength, discovery, forgiveness, and undying love. It is about believing in your destiny and following the path that leads to peace.

THIS IS THE SECOND PART, AND CONCLUSION, IN A TWO-PARTSIGN OF LOVE SERIES INSPIRED BY AQUARIUS (BECOMING CALDER SHOULD BE READ FIRST). New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and graphic sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Thoughts
Love.love.love...

“…everyone deserves a love story that doesn’t hurt.”
Amazing conclusion to Calder and Eden’s novel. From the beginning, this couple captured my heart and shared a breathtakingly emotional story that was filled with not only tragic and horrifying events, but also moments of beauty that proved they were determined to live like survivors rather than victims.

In Finding Eden, we continue on to part two of Calder and Eden’s A Sign of Lovestory where they’ve escaped the horrifying events of the cult they lived in for most of their lives. The world they knew came to a horrifically tragic ending when hundreds of their family and friends die in a mass suicide/murder in their secluded community of Acadia. After the event, both Calder and Eden survive but they don’t know that the other made it out alive. They spend the next three years trying to come to grips with all that they have lost.

Calder and Eden each find a way to manage in this new world that is foreign to them through the help of friends and acquaintances. When Eden is reunited with her mother and cousin, she begins to build a life with the family she thought she’d never see again. Life continues to take sharp turns for this character when she finally comes face to face with Calder and together they are forced to once again re-live the events of Acadia. As they rekindle the love that began in Acadia, they are forced to find strength in each other to survive the nightmare of their past..

Overall, I have to say that Mia Sheridan is a gifted story-teller. I’ve never read such a gripping story that involves cult-like communities that result in massive tragedy. Sheridan did a masterful job of making us fall in love with her characters and feel every emotion they struggled with as they faced their nightmares and attempted to rebuild their lives.

Calder’s backstory was heartbreaking, and it made me sympathize with this character even more then I already did from the moment I met him. His incredible strength and ability to love was powerful. He definitely commanded the story with his presence. Eden was a perfect match for Calder. Together they shared their weaknesses, hopes and most of all ability to love and attempt to move on. As a couple, their story felt both tragic, yet hopeful. Great combination!

The secondary cast was amazing! I wanted to read more about Xander, Nikki and Molly as we only scratched the surface to what I believe are some possibly great backstories.

The conclusion to A Sign of Love was skillfully crafted. Despite the horrific events that took place, Calder and Eden proved that they deserved a hopeful ending. Well done!

Review & Giveaway: Not Until You by Roni Loren

Not Until You by Roni Loren
Publication Date: November 4th 2014 by Berkley Trade
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

Cela knows how to be good. She’s had a lifetime of practice. But on the night of her college graduation, she decides she’s earned one wild night before she has to move back home to her overprotective family. So when the hot neighbor she’s been quietly fantasizing about for a year suggests a game of Never Have I Ever, she’s ready. But what starts out as a simple game takes an unexpected turn. Because Ian Foster doesn’t play games he can’t win.

Foster knows his desires aren’t for the faint of heart, especially not for someone as sweet and innocent as his pretty neighbor. But when Cela shows up at his door with an invitation that surprises him, he can’t resist indulging. Cela has no idea what she’s in for. The secret dark side of this man’s need will both intrigue and terrify her. But Cela has a secret of her own—and a new game to see just how far they’re both willing to go, and how much they’re willing to risk by crossing every boundary of desire.

My Thoughts:
If you want a book that will light some fires (not to mention your panties!), Roni Loren is your girl! Not Until You is my second read from her and she writes some seriously smoking HOT stories! But this story wasn’t just sex, sex, sex. There’s a compelling story with relatable characters at its heart.

Cela should feel ecstatic and proud she’s just graduated summa cum laude and is now a full-fledged veterinarian, but she can’t help feeling like she’s missed out on the full college experience.  Getting good grades, and living up to her father’s strict standards have been her focus, but Cela is doesn’t want to move back home feeling regret.

Cela has drooled over her neighbors, Foster and Pike, for as long as they’ve shared the same apartment complex, but Foster is the one to star in her late night fantasies.  Little does she know that she’s been the star of his fantasies, too. When her sexy neighbors invite her out to celebrate her graduation, a night of “Never Have I Ever” turns into something so much more!

Like I said in the outset, Not Until You is panty melting HOT!! Cela provides a list of things she hasn’t done, and Foster and Pike are happy to help tick off the boxes.  This leads to a three-way I won’t soon forget!  Oh my stars!  For those of you who have issues with multiples in a relationship (like I do), no worries because from the outset it’s clear that this is a romance between Foster and Cela, and Pike was just part of a fantasy in the beginning.

Cela tries to keep her heart in check after their heart-stopping encounter, but she can’t help feel an intense emotional connection to Foster, because what they shared felt like more than just a fantasy fulfillment.  A few things hold her back though. Cela has doubts that she could be enough for Foster, especially when he shares his particular proclivities.  He’s a dominant and well-versed in BDSM and she’s had little experience sexually, but the thought of being his submissive definitely turns her on!  Cela’s upbringing with an overprotective and strict family makes her wonder if she should feel shame over finding pleasure through such “naughty” things. Then there’s the fact that she’s supposed to move home shortly and join her father’s veterinary practice.

Foster has his own issues and doubt. Cela affects him like no other woman has, and it scares him. Foster has been abandoned before for his lifestyle and he’s worried if he opens his heart up to Cela any more than he already has she’ll shatter it when the novelty of his kink wears off and reality comes crashing in. Foster has led a very lonely life and abandonment issues haunt his existence.  It was easy to see why he had such an inherent need for control when I discovered his past.  It broke my heart and scared me a little because it’s something that could and does happen in real life.

Cela and Foster had some bumps in their relationship but it was clear that they were made for each other. Cela is a natural submissive which draws Foster's need to dominate like a magnet.  But more than that, they provided support and healing to each other and stirred up passions unmatched by anyone else.

Roni Loren has mesmerized me with her sensual, scorching romances!  Not Until You was blisteringly hot, but packed a satisfying emotional punch, as well!

Review: Worth the Fall (The McKinney Brothers #1) by Claudia Connor

Worth the Fall (The McKinney Brothers #1) by Claudia Connor
Published September 9th 2014 by Loveswept
They meet on a beach. . . . Abby Davis isn’t wearing a skimpy bikini or sipping umbrella drinks, not when she’s busy chasing around four little ones. And Matt McKinney isn’t looking for fun—he’s a Navy SEAL, a grown man with a long list of missions . . . and fallen brothers.

They only have a week. . . . Abby has brought her children to this beach to start over, to give them the enjoyable memories they deserve. Matt’s been sidelined by a combat injury, and haunted by the best friend he lost and the promise he made: to remain a SEAL—focused and dedicated. This leaves no time for what he’s always wanted: a family.

But a week is all it takes. . . . Matt opens her heart while Abby soothes his soul. And though they plan to say good-bye when the week is over, something magical happens on that beach, something neither can forget. Something utterly, completely worth falling for.

My Thoughts
Very unique and heartfelt. Definitely enjoyed this one.

So I was in the mood for a man-in-uniform book, and I asked one of my trusted reading buddies for a recommendation. She mentioned this book Worth the Fall that is about a Navy Seal who is on temporary leave vacationing with his cousin at a beach resort.

While at the beach, he meets this gorgeous girl… dark hair, captivating green eyes, amazing body ~queue the car brakes sound~ back up… did I mention this woman is six months pregnant and is toting around 4 little munchkins of hers? Well I was really curious how this “steamy” romance book with a too-hot-to-handle military man was going to play out, but as I’m often proven wrong, it worked. I enjoyed this romance. Yes, you heard me… it worked.

About the story...
Abby grew up in a foster home after losing her parents at the young age of five. She was carted from home to home and after leaving the system, she marries a man that shows her no more love than the umpteen couples that fostered her care. When she loses her husband and finds herself pregnant with their fifth child, she is determined to rally on and make a great life for her kids.

Matt made a promise to one of his fallen teammates that he would serve his country and never leave the navy. When this promise suddenly conflicts with what he truly wants out of life, which is a family and someone to love, he struggles to make peace with the dead.

Overall, I have to say I enjoyed the story quite a bit. I loved the dynamics the children played in the book. They were all quite unique and blended so well with one another. Most importantly, I adored how Matt handled the little preschool crew and their mother. He was patient, caring and as constant as an active military could be. It was apparent how much he struggled to balance his duty with his heart. Very emotional story that has moments of laughter, romance and heart. Great book!

Review: Unwrapped by Maisey Yates

Publication Date: November 18th 2014 by InterMix
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

About the book:

Kindergarten teacher Sarah Larsen has spent her whole life being the good girl. But now, she’s ready to do something bad. So wearing the shortest, tightest black dress she owns, she marches over to the nearest bar to fulfill her Christmas fantasy: a wild night with a total stranger.

Walker Callahan moved to Silver Creek to start fresh. He doesn’t want to bring his baggage into a relationship, so an evening of fun with the sexiest welcoming committee ever is just what he needs.

They were both in it for one night with no strings attached.. But when Sarah discovers that Walker is the father of her new student, things turn deliciously complicated. Can the cold winter nights thaw two frozen hearts?

My Thoughts:
Unwrapped was short and sweet at just 117 pages it takes less than a couple of hours to satisfy a romance craving.

After being raised by a strict grandmother, kindergarten teacher Sarah Larsen hasn’t had much experience in the romance department.  In fact, she’s still a virgin at the age of thirty.  Sarah feels it’s time to finally let go of her inhibitions and “let loose”, and she intends to do that by picking up a man and having her wicked way with him.  Walker seems like the perfect candidate! Her plan to spend one night without strings is foiled a bit when at the end of the night she experiences a rush of emotions and feels a direct connection from her heart to Walker.  Sarah hightails it out of there pronto, averting anymore risk to her heart, figuring she’ll never lay eyes on Walker again anyhow.

Walker has just bought a ranch in Silver Creek to start anew after his divorce.  He doesn’t plan on having a one-nightstand when he walks into the local bar, but Sarah draws him in like a beacon, and they spend a passionate night together.

Neither Sarah nor Walker plan on seeing each other again, but when Walker goes to pick up his daughter Kayla from her new kindergarten class, Sarah has the shock of her life.  Awkward!

Sarah was sweet and sincere and wore her heart on her sleeve.  I find it hard to hide my emotions much of the time, so I could really relate to her.  Her upbringing while not neglectful in a physical way was lacking in love. I truly wished for Sarah to find the love that was long overdue to her.

I felt bad for Walker as well.  His heart had been bruised by years spent in a loveless marriage, and he’s just trying to move on and provide a stable home for his daughter.  He’s attracted to Sarah and wants a physical relationship but makes it clear that’s all he has to give. I was disappointed with his treatment of Sarah and the walls he put up and I was disappointed that Sarah for the most part just took it.  I do get where Walker was coming from but to punish Sarah for his ex-wife’s crappy behavior wasn’t fair.  Fortunately, this didn’t last for too long.

Unwrapped is perfect if you’re in the mood for a short and sweet holiday romance that will leave you with the warm fuzzies.

Review: Protecting His Witch by Zoe Forward

Protecting His Witch (a Keepers of the Veil novel)
Protecting His Witch (A Keepers of the Veil novella) by Zoe Forward
Published by Entangeld: Covet on October 27, 2014
Purchase: Amazon
The last thing he wanted was to fall for a witch...

Veterinarian Kat Ramsey hasn't a clue that she's a witch. Sure, she can read minds, and there's the whole “dimension-hopping” issue that she can't quite control, but Kat is determined to keep things normal. That is, until she accidentally hops into the Otherworld, and runs smack into Matthew Ryan–the seriously hot one-night stand from years ago who shoved her out of his dorm. Naked.

And there's the tiny matter of the curse she gave him.

May you never find satisfaction with another woman. Billionaire and former druid Matthew Ryan hasn't forgotten the curse, or the witch who gave it to him. Kat's unexpected return means the curse will finally be broken. Unfortunately, his libido has other ideas–like how to get her back into his bed one last time. But far more worrying is his suspicion that Kat is the seventh Pleiades witch. Because while he's turned his back on his druidic ways, he's still bound to protect the woman who made his life hell...
My Thoughts:
I have been a long term fan of Ms. Forward and I was super excited to dive into her newest series.  Protecting His Witch is everything the Covet imprint is known for.  Off the charts sexiness, gorgeous alpha male, and a female heroine who can hold her own.

Paranormal isn't a new venture for Ms. Forward, but the introduction of the Pleiades is and I was really intrigued with this myth.  Kat has no idea why or how she can "dimension hop".  She finds herself always falling right into Matt Ryan's hands and that isn't exactly a bad place to be.  That is until she finds out he is a lying cheater.  When a chance encounter brings them together again Kat and Matt both realize that there might be more to their bump ins and fate might have bigger things in store for them.

Matt and Kat were great characters.  I really enjoyed reading their story and it was with minimal drama which I am all about these days.  There was a few angsty moments, but for the most part they both wanted each other and showed it.  Their interactions were really steamy and fun.  Matt always seemed to be caught in a bad situation and it took me awhile, but I did eventually root for him.  He was what Kat needed and I thought he did an awesome job when he finally came around.  I also really enjoyed the storyline.

This is my first Druid/ Pleiades story and I can tell you it won't be my last.  The story really came alive for me at the end though when a lot of my questions were answered.  I found throughout most of the story I was a little lost and I didn't understand the dimension hopping aspect.  I honestly still don't so I wish the author would have developed this a bit more.  It would have been nice to see more world building in general too.  I think I would have loved this world had I gotten more explanation.  The ending did reveal quite a few answers, but I still have a lot of questions and I am hoping that this will turn into a series and get some answers.  I don't like feeling lost, but the characters were pretty great so I went with the story for them.

One thing I really liked though was the surprises that were thrown in.  With these types of stories not much surprises me but man Ms. Forward really threw some doozies out there.  There are 2 that really grabbed me and I won't lie I was floored with both.  I am a little shocked at how future situations were handled when one particular bomb was dropped.  I would have thought that Kat would have been a little more aware of certain possibilities, but I guess in the moment logic sometimes fails us.

So all in all this was a really good start to what I hope becomes a series.  I liked the story even with the underdeveloped world and I really loved the characters.

Two reasons that helped inspire J.B. Morgan to try her hand at writing:

Review: Lovers Restored by Kelsie Leverich

Lovers Restored by Kelsie Leverich
Publication Date: November 17th 2014 by Entangled Brazen
Purchase Links: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

About the book:

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

So much need. So much desire…

It's been exactly ten years since Halle Morgan last set foot in her tiny hometown. Now she's back, but only long enough to honor the memory of her best friend and try to leave the past behind her. But with one look at Cooper Bale, Halle knows there is no escape from the past—or from the man she wants like no other.

Cooper can't let go of his painful memories, or the guilt that tore him and Halle apart. And try as he might, he can't forget the bittersweet night they once shared. Even now, longing sizzles between them, potent and insatiable. Though blissful nights spent in Halle's arms heal the bitterness in Cooper's heart, they know they have no future…until they let go of the past that brought them together.

My Thoughts:
Halle will never forget her first love because the memories are bittersweet and shadowed with pain. Returning to her hometown after spending ten long years away sends her heart into panic, but she promised her best friend, and after her death it’s the least she can do.

The night before Halle’s high school graduation was the sweetest of her life but in contrast the next day was the worst.  The death of her best friend, Peyton Bale, haunts her still ten years later, but she promised Peyton to come back on the date to open their time capsule keepsake box and relive the memories.  Facing her first love, Cooper Bale, Peyton’s older brother, is something she hopes to avoid especially when he made it clear to Halle all those years ago he blamed her for Peyton’s death.  It’s a small town so you know, of course, Halle will run into Cooper and it brings back all the heartache.  But more than that, it brings back all the intense attraction and yearning Halle and Cooper felt for each other.

I felt terrible for Halle because she basically lost the only family she had the night of her graduation. With her father already dead, and her mother long gone, the Bale’s were all she had.  Since then Halle’s tried to move on, going to college and then starting her own catering business, but she’s never fallen in love again.  Add to that, Halle blames herself for Peyton’s death, and feels totally deserving of the anger Cooper showed her the night they parted.

Little does Halle know that Cooper blames himself for Peyton’s death.  He’s never been able to really face the past events, and doesn’t want to, so seeing Halle again makes him angry. He doesn’t want to remember how he failed Peyton, his mother or Halle.  Cooper’s never moved on in love either, it’s always been Halle and only Halle, but his anger and hurt are mixed in with his powerful attraction, and it’s all too much.

Both Halle and Cooper’s lives were scarred by Peyton’s tragic death, stealing and obliterating the soaring happiness they felt being in love.  Being a sucker for a happy ending my heart ached at the thought of all those years they spent apart.  Thankfully the angry, scorching encounters they share turn into a gradual healing and forgiveness.

Lovers Restored was wickedly hot and passionate because the feelings between Halle and Cooper were so intense and long suppressed.  Kelsie Leverich really knows how to write an emotionally charged romance that will tug at your heart strings, but leave highlight for spoiler: you smiling over the super sweet and satisfying ending!

New Release and Review: No Promises Required by Cari Quinn

No Promises Required by Cari Quinn
Published November 17, 2014 by Entangled Brazen

About the book:
No strings. And no restraints…
Professional football player Bryan Townsend is sidelined for the next two weeks while he recovers from a knee injury. The upside? He'll get to attend his sister's wedding. The downside? He's not sure he'll have a spot on his team when he returns. So when he's confronted by a sexy blast from his past the night of the bachelor party, he sees an opportunity to seduce the very stunning maid of honor.
But Bryan had no clue Jill St. John was still a virgin. Or that she was merely looking to expand her sexual repertoire without having to trust anyone with her heart. But with every encounter, Jill can't help but fall for the man Bryan's become. The clock is running down. If he's to win it all, Bryan must make the biggest play of his career—choosing between his team…or the woman he's always wanted.

My Thoughts:
Two of my favorite books are No Flowers Required and No Romance Required, so I was really excited to read the newest book by Cari Quinn.

In No Promises Required, we meet Bryan, a professional football player who's recovering from an injury and visiting home for a few weeks for his sister's wedding. Jill, who's the best friend of Bryan's sister, has harbored a serious crush on Bryan since they were kids.

Thinking the tabloids and rumors about Bryan being a player are true, Jill decides she's going to convince him to have a wild two week fling with her. She is determined to shed her good girl image and gain some experience in the bedroom, and who better to help her with that than the sexy football god she's always crushed on?

Bryan has spent years keeping his distance from Jill in order to never disappoint and hurt her. Because of his own issues stemming from a difficult childhood, he has never believed he's good enough for someone like Jill. And now with his career on the line, he's trying to shed his bad boy image, including not getting involved with anyone. He doesn't need any distractions or complications, yet Jill is one distraction he can't seem to let go of.

A very sweet and sexy read! I enjoyed this friends to lovers story, especially the witty banter between Jill and Bryan. There is more depth to the story than just the sexy times, and it was easy to fall for this adorable couple.
