The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.
I haven't got much reading done this last week since I had a home improvement project on top of work being insane, and I'm back in Northern California spending time with my daughter, her husband and our grand kids. I never get much reading done when I'm up here because we're just all over the place. At the park, riding bikes, cooking or going out to eat. It's pretty much non-stop and I barely have time to write up a Sunday Post, lol! The kids, ages three and eight-months old, are way too cute, and it's a joy to spend time with them!

So I was able to listen to two audio books while commuting and painting at home: Cut and Run and Force of Nature. I really enjoyed both, Force of Nature was surprisingly good since I read a lot of mixed reviews. I liked it more than the first book, The Dry. Cut and Run was my second Mary Burton, obtained through Kindle Unlimited. I'm going to have to grab more of her mysteries since this was quite good, even if I did have a few things figured out quickly. Not the Duke's Darling is the first in Elizabeth Hoyt's newest historical romance series. Her historicals are clever, sexy and fun!

I got three library lend audiobooks come through at once: Twelve Slays of Christmas, My One and Only Duke, and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, so I better start listening ASAP! I LOVE Lorelei James' Need You series more than her cowboy series, and I've been waiting for Jaxson and Lucy's story, I Want You Back, for a while! I just gotta say there better be some proper groveling from Jaxson because he's been a grade A asshole to her! Of course I had to snatch up Mariana Zapata's newest, Luna and the Lie, and bonus it's on Kindle Unlimited.
Watched:
I have to say Blade Runner 2049 was a disappointment to me. I watched Blade Runner so many years ago and I remember thinking it was cool and a little odd, but I just didn't connect with the characters, romance or story for this newest one. Not sure if it's because the movie wasn't as good or my tastes have changed from teenager to adult. Geostorm was entertaining, but nowhere near as good as other end-of-the-world type movies, like The Day After Tomorrow, IMO.
How was your week?

ReplyDeleteForce of Nature (and The Dry before it) definitely had me curious a while back. I still kinda want to read 'em. I was pretty disappointed with Blade Runner 2049 too. Bored might even be the right word lol. It didn't grab me much. Geostorm I haven't seen.
ReplyDeleteBoth books were really good and atmospheric. Hope you pick them up! Yeah, BR 2049 could've been so much better. :(
DeleteThat is so nice you get to spend time with your daughter and grandchildren. If I was in that situation, I wouldn't be reading much either. Good luck with the home improvement projects. I hope they turn out exactly the way you imagined. Library loans ALWAYS come through all at once. How is that always the case?
ReplyDeleteSo for the home improvement projects are coming out pretty good. We tackle the kitchen next, so we'll see! I think you're right about the library loans!
DeleteOhh Burrowes!!
ReplyDeleteAnd the new Hoyt!
Sounds like you're having a fantastic family visit. :) I've heard good things about Eleanor Oliphant so I'll be interested to see what you think of the audio version. I've yet to read anything by Mariana Zapata but I hear she's the queen of slow burn! :) Hope you have a wonderful week, Rachel!
ReplyDeleteTanya @ Girl Plus Books
I've heard good things about Eleanor Oliphant, too, so I hope it's good. You must try Mariana Zapata! The Wall of Winnipeg and Me is my favorite book by her and Kulti is a close second. So much fun and I recommend the audio version. Thanks, Tanya! :)
DeleteIt sounds like you are having a nice family visit. I would imagine that it is a real change of pace though. I also enjoyed Cut and Run and need to read more of Mary Burton. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your new reads!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of her mysteries are on Kindle Unlimited so I'll be downloading soon. We'll as soon as I get through my five library lends! Another two came through right after I set up this post, lol! Thanks, Carole. You too!
DeleteI couldn't get into either movie. I think I went into them expecting too much. It looks like you have some fun reads for when you return from your trip. It sounds like you are having a fabulous time!

Yeah, none of the movies I've been picking lately have knocked my socks off. :(
DeleteNot the Duke's Darling is on my wishlist. Nice haul my friend!
ReplyDeleteHope you love it, Kimberly, and thanks!
DeleteI'm glad you are having fun with family even if it DOES cut into your reading time. I'm hoping to get as much reading finished this week as I can since next week is Christmas and I'm also in a wedding a few days after that. hah

Good luck with getting some reading done during this busy time of year, Lauren!
DeleteHave fun with your family! I’m still on a waitlist for Eleanor Oliphant. I’ve heard good things about it. Enjoy your new books. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I hope you get it soon, AJ. Thanks, you too!
DeleteI didn't have time to do a Sunday Post this week! We're almost finished packing, so we're basically living out of cardboard boxes right now. I am so ready to just be there and be finished with all of this nonsense. I don't mind finding new places for everything, but the packing is awful.
ReplyDeleteI added I Want You Back to my TBR! It sounds like something I'd enjoy. I hope you're enjoying the time with your family! I know my mom loses her mind when her grandchildren are around.

Packing is the worst! I always wonder how I've accumulated so much crap. Good luck with your move! I hope you get settled in soon. I hope you enjoy I Want You Back if you decide to pick it up.
DeleteI hope you are having fun with your family. It is alright to take a break from blogging once in a while, right? I do it all the time, too many times to be good for me.
ReplyDeleteGayathri @ Elgee Writes
Yes, for sure! It's always good to have a break and spend time with family. Thanks, Gayathri!
DeleteYay for having a great time with your family :D That is the best thing. <3 And yay for having read a bunch of stunning looking books :) I have not read any of them, haha, but they look great. And ohh, Geostorm. I'm curious about that movie. But ugh, not as good as The Day After Tomorrow? How rude, haha :D I love that movie. <3
