Sunday Post #9

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

It's been an interesting week of torrential rain in a place where it doesn't rain (Southern California) so super fun for my commute to work! Hey, I can't complain about the rain here, since we desperately need it and I really love the rain when I don't have to drive in it.  Thursday morning was the most terrifying drive to work I've ever had. Hydroplaning basically the whole way to work I had a death grip on the steering wheel!  At one freeway underpass there was a buildup of 2-3 feet of water in 3rd and 4th lanes! So glad I was in the number one lane, next to the carpool! At any rate, I'm home now and thankfully in one piece.

Snowed in with the Cowboy was a short and sweet novella, exactly what I was craving !    I got a copy of Ice in audio book form since I was pressed for time and figured it was the only way to squeeze in.  I really wished I would've read it instead of listening to it, because I think I would've enjoyed the story more by reading it traditionally. The narrator made all the male characters sound like hicks and way older than they actually were. The Mansion was amazing! This is a book that should be read in one sitting, but life made it necessary to piece it out and pick it up when I could. The story was creepy, full of tension, and terrifying in places! I plan on having my review up this week, but I totally recommend it!

Received/Purchased/Library Lend:

I'v just started Force of Nature after my library lend came through, and it's okay. After reading and enjoying A Curious Beginning I'm excited to continue the Veronica Speedwell series.

Watched:

Searching was fresh, original and completely scary, because it was very realistic, and something that happens way too often!  I was moved emotionally and loved it!  Crazy Rich Asians was a mix of emotions, and a beautiful film to watch.  My favorite character was "Asian Ellen"! Cracked me up!

So, how was your week?

  1. Oh no- glad you made it okay! That can be nerve wracking when you can FEEL the car hydroplaning. Not fun...

I need to see Crazy Rich Asians yet... :)

    1. Yep, not a fun drive. Crazy Rich Asians was pretty good, but I didn't read the book so I have nothing to compare it to. I liked Searching more.

  2. That Veronica book does not look familliar...but, must google!

And omg that sounds so scary! I am glad you made it home. Also, I am glad it rained. That was needed

    1. It's the newest one to be released next year.

I'm glad it rained, too, but I'm hoping for weekend rain next time, lol. :)

    1. I think you'd like Force of Nature, Laurel. It turned out better than I thought it would.I'm hoping Say You're Sorry is good too. I've read another book by Karen Rose and it didn't knock my socks off, but it was like book 15 in a series with a lot of previous characters popping in. I felt lost...

  4. We've had a lot of rain this week, too. The kids and I have been a little stir-crazy, and we've run out of indoor games to play. Thankfully, the sun is out today, so I'm hoping to take them to a playground when they wake up from their naps. We re-watched Isle of Dogs this morning, which everyone loves!

I've been curious about Say You're Sorry, so I'm looking forward to your thoughts. <3

    1. Yes, kids start to go crazy with too much indoor time. I hope you're able to get them out playing!

I hope it's good. I wasn't really into the last book but it was in the middle of a long going series and there was a lot of previous characters showing up. Lot of page time devoted to them when they had really nothing to do with the story I was reading. :/ Say You're Sorry is book one of new series, so I'm crossing my fingers that this time will be different.

  5. That sounds like an awful commute! I hope the weather modulates a little bit, so you can get some rain without the terrifying drive. I still need to watch Crazy Rich Asians, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. Hope you have a great week!

    1. It would be nice to get a little bit of rain, not the deluge we had, lol. Thanks, JJ, you too!

  6. Kind of scary when you get that out of the ordinary weather. I mean, we get all sorts of weather here, and still nobody can drive when there is any form of precipitation. I cannot imagine how it is by you. Glad you survived.

    1. Thanks Sam! Rain can be terrifying when it's coming down hard. I can't imagine driving in the snow, though!

  9. As much as I love rain (and I really, really love a rainy day) I don't particularly enjoy driving in it. Ugh. I hope this week's commute is a lot less eventful for you! I've heard so many raves for Crazy Rich Asians! I really need to check that one out soon. Hope your week is off to a good start!

  10. Yeah, Force of Nature was not my favourite of Harper's. I recently watched Searching and WOW. It's one of the best movies I saw this year and I was just so impressed with it. I'm telling everyone I know to watch it.

    1. Oh, yay, Verushka! I'm happy to find someone who watched it, too. My daughter said she saw it around and wanted to watch it so we downloaded it and was surprised by how good it was!

  12. The weather has been crazy. It's snowing here in NC but will be later in the week.

Great Looking book. I want to read Ice; I think it is in KU. I read Say You're Sorry by Karen Rose. Have you read the rest of the series? You wouldn't have to have read them, but they are all so good. I read this right after the previous one and wrote my review like 2 months ago! Happy reading! Anne - Books of My Heart

    1. Ice is a KU, but I recommend reading it rather than listening to the audio. I haven't read the rest of Karen Rose's series, just one other book so I hope I like Say You're Sorry. It was clear I shouldn't have read the last book as a stand alone. I felt kind of lost.

Stay warm and safe with the coming snow!

  13. We had some wicked rain over the weekend. Couldn't even see across the street. I'm glad it has moved on. Ice was a good read. I really like her books. The Mansion was okay. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would though. It wasn't my cuppa tea. I did love his Hatching series though.

    1. I think I would've liked Ice better if I didn't listen to the audio.

I loved the Mansion just as much as The Hatching series if not more. Very different but both were really good. Sorry you didn't like it as much.
